As I fall, all I see is a wall of dirt in front of me.
Then my future sight activates once again, and what I see makes the situation around me more clear.
I quickly make the decision to stab my spear horizontally.
Yes! The tip of the spear reaches the wall of dirt.
It feels hard, like I’m touching a compressed wall of mud. It feels like it was pressed together so as not to collapse on the pit.
My thrust lacks strength because I have no footing, so the tip of the spear bounces back.
Back that is what I expected!
My body turns in reaction to the thrust, and my falling trajectory changes.
This change in my trajectory takes me to the other side of the pit, where I see a glowing pale light.
A glowing pill bug like the ones I saw on the surface is clinging to the wall.
I hold my spear diagonally downwards, and use my descent speed to stab the pill bug.
The impact almost makes me numb as it races through my hands.
The spear quickly falls from the pill bug, as it rips it and sprays a blue liquid.
But I stab the pill bug directly below it, and keep stabbing pill bugs clinging to the walls and slowing my descent.
I can see the bottom, and the hole where the giant pill bug came from!
My spear is covered with a pale glowing fluid, and its shine shows me a sloping hole.
That hole is clearly much larger than this pit.
I hold my spear close to me and hunch as I go down this hole.
“Guh!”
I fall down this slanted hole, and it feels like its force alone could kill as a person falls.
Thankfully, it is unnaturally smooth, minimizing the damage I take.
Ah! I can’t… Stop…!
This world around me is spinning very fast, but I catch a glimpse of multiple intersecting holes.
Are there more of that giant pill bug…? Did it make multiple trips…?
As I think about this, I feel an impact, and my body finally stops spinning.
I land on my back, and it causes a great deal of pain. I start coughing heavily.
The blood I spit from my lungs sticks to my spear, and I keep coughing, until something falls from my pocket. It’s the potion Master Rust gave me earlier.
There is still quite a bit inside.
I only used a few drops on the woman Master Rust was covering, and she recovered completely.
The faint light just barely shows me the potion, and I stretch my hand towards it.
