At first, it looks like nothing is happening.
The gold nugget and dragon spring stone are positioned inside the ball of revolving curses created by my gravity control. It just keeps revolving with no change in sight.
But that’s all it is.
It doesn’t show any sign that it will change, and I feel dejected because I’m starting to think my guess was off.
I keep observing it, but still, nothing happens. I finally give up and stop the operation of one of the 《Overweight》 scrolls, but then…
“Hn? Something doesn’t feel right…”
The feel of the curses, or rather, their sense of presence itself. It feels different somehow.
“…! The curses’ matter is changing?”
I say in surprise without thinking.
The speed of the ball’s revolution drops, and I can feel more clearly that the curses definitely feel different.
I keep watching.
“This is incredible. In a way, it’s kind of like the materialization of a concept. But that means the gold nugget and dragon spring stone are only working as simple catalysts. That doesn’t sound right…”
I follow my uncontrollable curiosity, and extend my right hand covered in curses. Then I try gently touching the curses I want to transmute with the tips of my fingers.
“I can touch it. It feels… Soft? Now it’s unraveling. Is this string?”
I try to slowly pinch the surface of what feels to me like materialization of curses, and the part I pick up stretches like a black string.
“《Activate》, 《Activate》, 《Restrain》.”
I activate the scroll made with the toughest materials I have, 《Restrain》. I position its handle like a spinning wheel, and roll up the black string spat out from the black lump.
The black string keeps being spun and wrapping around the scroll. When it feels like I can’t spin anymore, I bring out another 《Restrain》 scroll.
I have to do this a few more times, but eventually, all that mass of curses becomes black string.
The string rolled on 《Restrain》 scrolls fills my surroundings as it floats in the air.
I take a deep breath, and hear someone’ voice behind me.
“M-master Rust…?”
“Ah, Shellrule. Good morning.”
I’m feeling tired after this transmutation, so I answer normally without thinking too much about it.
“G-good morning… Hum, what is this?”
Shellrule’s face looks red after waking up, but her curiosity as an alchemist soon kicks in, and she starts looking at the things floating around me.
“Ah, yes, what? String I guess?”
“Yes, string.”
“String, but it’s made of curses.”
“Curses!? Eh!? How?”
“I threw in the gold nugget you helped me extract, and the dragon spring stone, and it transformed.”
Shellrule looks bewildered and also overcome with curiosity, and I start explaining what went on while she slept.
