“Daddy.”
A warm body clings to my leg, demanding to be picked up.
“Reny.”
I put my hands beneath my daughter’s arms and slowly pick her up.
Then I stretch my arms and lift her high.
She likes it, and starts laughing loudly.
I bring her close to me and hug her gently. Her delicate and smooth hair smells like the sun.
She feels warm. Her temperature is a bit higher than mine.
Does she have a fever? I don’t think so.
She gets sick easily, because of her innate power and talents. She gets fevers easily ever since she was a baby.
That’s why I almost automatically check her temperature every time I pick her up.
“Mommy says the food is ready.”
“And you came here to call me? Thank you, you’re a good girl.”
She smiles broadly, happy about being praised.
“Daddy, what’s this?”
“Ah, that’s what daddy was researching. Hum… Work.”
She looks at me with a sparkle in her eyes. I guess she wants me to continue.
“Can I put you down for a bit?”
I put her down, and after checking to see if her feet are on the floor, I take my arms off her back.
“Look at these two very closely.”
I grab two magic stones from my desk and hold them down where my daughter can see them.
“Pretty… Daddy, why are they the same but different?”
She asks with a puzzled sounding voice after staring at the magic stones. I’m taken aback a little by her pertinent question.
I have in my hands two magic stones of the same type of monster. As far as we can see with a 《Transcribe》 scroll, their composition is the same.
Did Reny point that out due to that perception that’s characteristic of children? Or is it the talents she was born with?
“Very well spotted, Reny.”
“This one looks kind of empty.”
I take the one she’s pointing to, and infuse it with magic elements.
“Wah, daddy your hand is pretty.”
The magic stone is filled with magic elements, and I keep infusing them.
They enter the magic stone, and the excess disappears.
Reny looks really excited about that. She can see the flow of magic elements with her eyes.
Alchemist’s eyes, one of Reny’s talents.
“Can you tell?”
“Yes.”
“Then look at this one.”
I take the other magic stone, and infuse it with magic elements too.
“Ah!”
She exclaims.
The moment I go over the limit, the magic stone crumbles into pieces.
“It broke! It broke!”
“Yes, it did. Daddy is trying to figure out why.”
The one that broke was from a monster I took down recently. The other one was excavated from a very old layer.
“Daddy, is it strange?”
“Yes, I’m confused too.”
“Strange! Strange!”
Says Reny with a happy voice.
Empty… It’s just a theory, but it’s thought that excess magic elements flow to another world. That makes sense to me. If we assume many worlds exist…
“Dear? Dinner is served.”
“Yes, sorry!”
I straighten my back and quickly respond with an apology.
“Mommy.”
Reny runs over to her mother.
I follow her while she has that big smile on her face to the dinner table.
