At the mention of this, everyone seemed a bit dazed.
Qin Huaibei thought carefully for a moment, then said, "We don't know. We didn't pay much attention to his side when we first started the communication."
Daniel chimed in, "He was too quiet. We only noticed Katherine. We didn't see Anderson appear in the communication at the time."
Hearing this, Chloe furrowed her brow.
What were they doing now?
She felt uneasy. Anderson, though seemingly steady, was actually reckless. Many times, his actions would surprise Chloe.
For instance, this time, who knew what they might be up to.
Left with no choice, Chloe made a call.
She called Anderson, who, as always, answered before the first ring had even finished.
Seeing this, Chloe's anxious heart eased a little.
But when she saw Anderson covered in blood on the screen, she tensed up again:
"What are you doing?"
Anderson put down the knife in his hand, his emerald green eyes shifting towards the screen.
In that moment, his previously fierce and cold expression softened somewhat.
His voice was hoarse: "Young miss, how are you doing now?"
"I'm the one asking you," Chloe emphasized.
Anderson blinked twice, then smiled and said, "Understood."
He turned the screen around so Chloe could see the scene in front of him and Katherine.
It was equally gruesome, with the severed heads of those beasts piled into a small mountain, like a terrifying display from an ancient battlefield. Even the damp soil below was stained blue.
There must have been a great battle there recently. Not a single bird call could be heard in the jungle, and even through the screen, Chloe could feel the suffocating atmosphere.
However, her attention quickly shifted elsewhere, because beside the pile of heads lay many humans.
Chloe narrowed her eyes: "Are those Viper Group people?"
"Yes."
As he spoke, Anderson walked towards the head pile.
His tall military boots made a sticky sound as they stepped on the damp soil. He crouched down, bringing the screen closer to the humans so Chloe could clearly see their faces and identifying features.
Then he turned and pounced to Katherine's side, his eyes shining: "Are these for me and Qin Huaibei to eat?"
Katherine, who had originally intended to grill for everyone to eat together: "..."
She glanced at Chloe, who was thoroughly enjoying herself by Anderson's side, imperceptibly sighed, then nodded and said, "Yes."
"Woohoo!"
Daniel immediately grabbed a skewer and bit into it, his eyes immediately tearing up from how delicious it was.
Qin Huaibei sat on a wooden stump, his body, tired from a long day, finally relaxing a bit.
On the other side, after being waited on and eating most of the grilled meat, Chloe sat spacing out for a while, then got up and walked over to the prisoners nearby.
This time, they weren't by the pile of heads, but had been moved to a place closer to the campfire. Anderson must have thought the head pile was dirty and specifically moved them.
Chloe crouched down and raised her hand to slap the faces of several men, waking up all the prisoners who had fallen into a deep sleep.
The prisoners' cheeks stung, and they painfully opened their eyes, immediately seeing the grinning Chloe in front of them.
The girl raised her hand in a friendly wave: "Hi there, do you know who I am?"
The prisoners' faces instantly turned pale. One with weaker nerves, unable to close his dislocated jaw and unable to control himself, even drooled a bit.
Chloe: "..."
Her eyes showed undisguised disgust. Seeing him mumbling and babbling non-stop, with more and more drool flowing, she irritably hit him on the head, knocking him unconscious. Only then did Chloe feel a bit better.
She enthusiastically looked at the remaining prisoners:
"Come on, tell this little sister, what are you doing here?"
Those prisoners turned deathly pale, looking at Chloe as if they were seeing a demon from hell.
Chloe felt a bit annoyed. Did she really look that scary?
While thinking this, Chloe pulled out a dagger and said gently:
"Not talking, huh? I'll count to three, and if you still don't speak, I'll chop off your fingers one by one."
As she spoke, she gestured towards the prisoners' fingers.
"One."
Before she finished speaking, the prisoners frantically shook their heads, trying hard to lift their chins to indicate to Chloe — their jaws had been dislocated, and they couldn't speak.
Seeing this, Chloe helped them put their jaws back in place one by one.
The girl's smile suddenly became somewhat sinister:
"Now then, my dears, tell me all about what's going on here."
