Verkan's speech aroused his company quite a lot. However, Zaos was still pretty cool-headed, despite the fact that even the most scared soldiers shouted to answer to his command. Just as he had said, Verkan dashed diagonally toward the left side of the enemy's formation. Zaos finally understood why the first four companies moved to the left side… it was to make the fifth company move toward the battle without being noticed. As if that wasn't already good enough for them, the whole enemy army had their eyes on the infantry that attacked their information.
Zaos looked to the side as he ran and saw the infantrymen being attacked by the enemies' riders. In order to make sure the infantrymen wouldn't be exterminated, the cavalry on his side also dashed toward the fight… it was weird how much things were progressing in their favor.
When Verkan's company finally was about to attack, the enemy's infantry noticed them. They raised their spears to stop the charge, but their stance weakened when they saw Zaos's sword engulfed by long and powerful flames. Zaos and Verkan destroyed several spears and opened a hole in the enemies' infantry as well when they swung their swords and split six men in half with armor on and everything.
Zaos's plan worked, not only when the first strike surprised the enemies but when he cast two layers of fire magic over his sword as well. As they watched those two dashing through their formation, the enemy infantrymen were attacked by the rest of the company. Those twenty soldiers that Verkan brought were almost at the same level as him.
Upon noticing that the two enemies dashing through their formation were bad news while clenching their fists and teeth, the infantrymen tried to stab Zaos and Verkan. Still, once again, their spears were thrown away when their swords hit them. The pain of their attacks passing through the hands of the enemies made them flinch. Zaos swung his fire sword again on a return strike and split the upper and lower half of three other enemies. Although he managed to attack like those two times in a row and his sword still was in good condition, Zaos could see that he wouldn't be able to fight like that for long. Blood gushed from the enemies' wounds and rain over him, making his body a little heavy and weakening his grip and the balance of his legs.
After attacking the third line of enemies, Zaos noticed that the mana in his sword was growing to weaken. Before anything unpleasant could happen, he began to cast another spell. When the new line of enemies appeared before him, Zaos changed his stance and held his sword with his right hand alone.
"Hah! Hah!... Hah!" Zaos shouted as he stabbed the enemies.
It wasn't nearly as flashy as hitting the enemies' throats with his sword instead of splitting them in half, but at least Zaos managed to avoid the blood falling on him. He achieved his goal, but he noticed something weird happening. When the flames on his sword disappeared, he enveloped it with two layers of wind magic. One could see with a naked eye that wind was covering the sword, but that was just a minor detail, what was impressive was the fact that Zaos's thrusts made his sword fire what looked to be Wind Bullets. The stabs pierced the enemies' throat, and on the other side of their necks, the top of his sword fired those projectiles and hit the enemies behind, knocking them out. Zaos just learned a new technique, and there were plenty of enemies to test that on…
The infantry finally broke their formation since the enemies' army had already pierced all the way to the half, trying to surround Zaos several of them moved toward him. As for the man that Verkan selected to watch their backs, they were a few meters behind spreading the range of destruction… they won't reach them in time. However, before Zaos could be surrounded, he stabbed the air with his sword, but the wind balls fired by the tip of his weapon hit the enemies' necks and made them snap.
Verkan couldn't help but frown when he saw enemies a few meters away from them falling for apparently no reason. Still, he understood that Zaos did something and just confirmed that he wasn't surrounded before dashing toward the next enemies. Despite their fancy gear, the infantry of the enemies' army wasn't that strong.
Zaos continued to use that tactic to open the path as quick as possible thanks to his combination of swordsmanship and magic, he reached the last line of the enemy company in the blink of an eye, and he still had half of his mana.

Zaos stopped for a moment to catch his breath. They then turned around only to see Verkan and the two squires approaching him while the rest of the company were fighting the nearby enemies. The nearest of their companies joined the fight since the first had been decimated, and that was making things a bit more complicated.
"Use some potions, things will only get tougher from now one," Verkan said as he pointed to two companies of cavalry moving to protect the archers.
"They found out about the plan," Zaos said as he received two bottles from the squires. "Are we just going to ignore that fact?"
