Although they entered in position pretty fast, they still lost at least three ships. As for the enemies, two of them were on fire. Their attention wavered when the enemy ships noticed that a more robust ship was moving toward them from the Eastside. Still, before they could do anything, they were bombarded by bolts and arrows.
Zaos didn't notice that before the enemies began to shoot arrows toward them, but the wind was in their favor, and the enemies' arrows fell on the ocean. Zaos saw those fire arrows falling on the ocean and furrowed his eyebrows. All of them were fire arrows, so their goal was pretty clear…
"You two can attack as well, but focus on protecting America and Noemi," Erean said to Drannor and Zaos.
"That is the plan for the time being?" Zaos asked.
"Yes, we have the wind on our favor and we don't need anything more for the time being," Erean said. "Besides, we won't be using arrows and bolts for long."
Once they got close enough, the enemies' arrows began to hit their ship. Drannor spun his spear and then blocked several arrows that moved toward him and Ameria. Zaos didn't have to spin his sword. Just moving his thick sword from one point to the other had been enough to protect himself and Noemi.
In the end, they didn't have to do that more than twice. After the second wave of fire arrows, the ship increased in speed and then hit the enemy ship left side with their front. Their entire ship trembled, but the enemy ship trembled much more. Some of the enemy crew even fell on the ocean.
Once that happened, the smuggler Captain moved the ship to the side, and then the crew used some wood bridges and connected both ships. The soldiers began to invade the enemy ship but then when Zaos tried to do the same, Erean stopped him.
"Not yet…" Erean said and then pointed to another ship that was approaching, and the Captain of that one was planning to do the same with them. "Can you destroy their mast?"
"I can try," Zaos said. "Their movement speed isn't something to laugh at and I am not exactly an excellent archer."
"Just try it," Erean said.
The ship was two hundred meters away, and it was fast approaching. However, Zaos still had to consider other factors like the rain of arrows falling on that ship. However, despite that, he still focused his senses and then fired when he felt confident in his aim.
When the enemy ship was one hundred meters away, his Wind Sword hit the mast and a loud cracking sound echoed through the area. It didn't seem like Zaos destroyed all the mast, but he damaged enough to make it collapse due to its own weight.
The enemy ship still hit them, but without the wind and the control of the mast, the impact had been laughable. This time Erean led the soldiers to the second ship and began to attack. Drannor and Zaos accompanied him since they were no more arrows being shot at them.
"If you can avoid it, don't kill them all!" Erean shouted.
The enemies heard that voice, and some of them couldn't help but frown. That seemed too much of a hassle, but once Zaos and Drannor arrived on the second ship, they noticed that they could take it easy. The enemies dashed at them and tried to hit their heads, but they weren't exactly fast, and their technique was lacking severely. A single step to the side was enough to completely dodge their attacks and make them lose their balance. Those probably weren't experienced, soldiers. Regardless, Drannor knocked his targets town with the butt of their spear, hitting their bellies, and Zaos did the same, but he hit their heads with the side of his sword.
However, neither of them was that merciful when they saw some of the enemies picking their bows and arrows and aiming toward them. Even at a close distance, they could block the arrows by considering where the enemy was looking at and which direction the arrow was going to fly. Once they did that, Drannor pierced the enemy's heart, and Zaos's split his target into two. Erean basically did the same, but he made his sword pierce in two of the enemies' chests. After the rest of the crew saw some of their men being easily killed, they dropped their weapons.
"Who is the Captain of this ship?" Erean asked in a hurry.
One of the soldiers who surrendered pointed toward the man that Drannor had killed. While that was a bit troublesome, it wasn't much of a loss. That only meant that he was really working for Ferdinand and wanted the sweet reward he was offering for those special enemies.
"I don't know what Ferdinand told you guys, but that is a lie," Erean said. "Orleand wasn't killed by us, nor was the other family merchants."
"This should be enough of a proof, right?" Orleand said as he approached.
While that was, it was a bit troublesome for him to show up like that in the middle of a battle. Other ships were approaching, after all. Regardless, several people quickly recognized Orleand and couldn't help frown in shock.
"Since you were fooled, I won't tell you what to do," Erean said. "But if you want to go home alive, stay locked in the cabins and let our men use this ship our fight alongside us. Be quick deciding it."
The crew of that ship hesitated for a few moments. Still, in the end, they picked their weapons again and decided to fight against Ferdinand. It was a bit risky to let those people join their ship. Still, judging by their eyes while Zaos was playing with his sword around, it seemed that they weren't crazy enough to try anything funny.
The survivors of that ship and the group that invaded returned to the main one. In the end, they gained fifteen allies after losing ten soldiers… in those two battles. It certainly wasn't an impressive mark, but it was better than nothing.
