Chapter 7: Level 2 Esper
“Eh? It’s not locked? Mom should be careful next time. Although our neighbors are good people, it is better to remain safe.” Leric muttered to himself as he stepped inside the clinic. From where he stood, he could already smell the distinctive fragrance of numerous herbs. With his years of experience as an herbalist, he could already tell from the smell alone that these herbs were precious.
The first floor of the clinic was where the patients are required to wait. It was also where the stock room was located. This stock room was where Leric was planning to meditate. He might even find herbs there that could help him increase his meditation speed!
When he was still an infant, his mother would always bring him here, so Leric was quite familiar with this place. He swiftly turned to a corner and saw a room with the words ‘Stock Room’ written in the middle.
Leric pushed the door open and he immediately saw a myriad of herbs and plants. The herbal aroma in this room was so dense that it made Leric sigh with a reminiscent look.
“I feel that I’m back to my own research room. The smell of herbs is truly addicting. Hehe.” He muttered with a silly smile plastered on his face.
Just then, when he touched an herb, he suddenly saw rows of the information displayed before his eyes.
Silver Crescent Leaf
.....
– An herb used to detoxify weak poisons.
“Oh, so my Observation skill works like this, huh? I only need to touch an herb and I’ll be able to identify it? This would make things easier for me.” Leric smiled when he discovered this. He then began touching every herb he saw and their information appeared in front of him like a prompt in a video game.
Black Corianth Powder
– Commonly used as a condiment, but this can also be applied on small wounds to ease swelling.
Red Star Fruit
– A rare star-shaped fruit produced by a Red Star Tree. It is high in Vitamins A, B, and C. Its seeds can be eaten to ease stomach aches and diarrhea.
Leric smiled from ear to ear as the information of each herb was displayed to him. This was free knowledge! And for an herbalist like him, this information was precious!
After inspecting all the herbs inside the stock room, he also saw the five ingredients he needed to concoct the pill meant for his father. The ingredients were a bit expensive, but to the Lassiter Family who was overseeing a huge territory, this amount was nothing. Even in this clinic alone, Leric already saw more than a dozen pieces of each ingredient!
He then kept two pieces of each herb he needed and kept them inside a small basket he saw inside the stock room. He also took a few herbs that can increase meditation speed and add world essence.
“Since I still couldn’t make a pill, I have no choice but to directly consume these herbs. Although this method is wasteful, this is the only thing I can do.” Leric said as he looked at the herbs in his hands. He was hesitating whether he should consume them or not. In the end, he mustered his courage and took huge bites of the herbs and chewed them like a goat. His face turned green in disgust, but he forced himself to swallow down the herbs.
“Damn! The taste is bitter!” Leric wiped the tears at the corner of his eyes as he cursed. He then sat cross-legged and meditated according to the directions described in the book he read about Espers.
He channeled the world energy he had digested from the herbs and gathered them to a section located between his eyebrows. According to the book about Espers, this area between his eyebrows is called ‘Hegel’. It is a small diamond-shaped organ that is embedded in the skull of someone when they start to develop their talent as Espers. The world essence that an Esper accumulates would be stored in the Hegel.
Leric’s aura fluctuated as he began to meditate. The world essence around him slowly converged before mysteriously entering his body. The stock room which had an abundance of world essence earlier now only had a pitiful amount left!
After an hour, Leric opened his eyes and checked his Status Screen. What he saw made him stunned.
Talent [Esper] Level 2
– As a heaven blessed individual, you are gifted with the ability to manipulate the energy of the world. You can now summon your own Pill Fire.
“I thought meditating is hard? Did I read a fake book? Man, I should be careful about the books I will read next time...” Leric muttered to himself. He then stood up and clenched his chubby fists. He could already feel the great changes in his body after he was promoted to Level 2 Esper. The new skill he learned Wind Control also became stronger when he checked its information in his Status Screen. Aside from that, his Observation skill also changed.
Skill [Observation] Level 2
– You will be able to identify common materials with a mere look.
“How come my Observation skill also leveled up? Did it level up after I used it on those herbs earlier?” Leric had a thoughtful look as he contemplated deeply.
From the way it looks, his skills should be leveled up after using them for a certain number of times. As for his talent, he concluded that it should work the same way.
“So the book I read isn’t fake. This cheat code of mine is truly something. Hehe.” Leric chuckled, feeling pleased with himself.
“Now, let me test this Pill Fire. According to my Status Screen, I can now manifest my Pill Fire.” Leric muttered as he began to think of summoning his Pill Fire. Knowledge about how to do this mysteriously emerged inside his head. He then followed everything he learned and channeled his world essence and directed them to his fingertips as he imagined an awesome-looking fire.
“Woah!” Leric exclaimed as a dark obsidian-like flame suddenly appeared on top of his palm. It was flickering calmly while Leric looked at it with great interest.
