Chapter 31: Acting Pretentious All Battle, And The Outcome?

With just that casual strike, the battlefield at the city gates fell silent as if time had frozen.

The black-armored commander standing on the sand dune slightly raised his head, his grip on the heavy sword tightening. However, he still did not move.

The shield guard, who had suddenly lost his shield, appeared momentarily stunned, staring blankly at Myza for a full two seconds.

Myza met his gaze and tilted his head slightly, smiling warmly.

In that instant, the shield guard appeared to snap back to reality or had perhaps spotted an opening. His muscles tensed, and he swung his hammer at Myza's head with all his might.

Clang!

The hammer didn't face any resistance as it struck the side of Myza's face before shattering into tiny fragments. The powerful recoil numbed the shield guard's arm and threw him off balance, yet it didn't leave a single mark on Myza's face.

"Weak forehand, a lack of precision on the backhand. Since you've lost your weapon, it's high time you exit the stage," Myza said as the end of his staff hooked the shield guard's heel, flipping the latter to the ground.Fôllôw new stories at novelhall.com

The shield guard tried to roll and get back up, only to find the staff's tip already at his face.

Squelch.

Hard skull was pierced through easily by the sharp end of the staff as if it were tofu, instantly taking the shield guard's life.

And then, naturally, the staff's end was pulled out. Myza's action was so casual as if he was just taking a stroll and had accidently poked the shield guard's head with his staff.

"Who's next?" Myza standing in front of the elite squad's remaining members lifted his chin. "Hurry up, you. You guys still have a chanting mage. If no one stops me, I'll have to go over and twist his head off out of respect."

Once Myza said that, the black-armored commander tightened his grip on his sword once more. Yet, he still didn't move.

Myza glanced at him, grinned, and started walking slowly toward the chanting mage.

At this point, the other two finally couldn't hold back any longer. The necromancer raised his staff, spreading black goo, and malformed abominations crawled out of the mire, roaring as they charged toward Myza.

Myza raised an eyebrow, casually swatting away the abominations with his staff. In the next instant, he appeared behind the necromancer.

The necromancer turned around in shock, but before he could react, Myza snatched the bone staff from his hands and struck the former across the face with his own staff. The necromancer was sent flying, spinning 720 degrees in the air before crashing into the distant sand with a thud.

Judging by the caved-in side of his face, he was likely already dead.

Myza glanced at the crystal staff in his hand, flicking off the black goo in disgust. "Ugh, why haven't these disgusting necromancers died out yet? Only you guys love flinging crap at people during a fight..."

Before he could finish, a figure suddenly sprang out from the black goo where the necromancer had been standing. The scout had somehow melded into the goo!

His dual daggers were now sharp spikes, shooting for Myza's eyes.

Seeing this, Myza swung the bone staff to meet the attack head-on.

The black-armored commander clasped his heavy sword onto his back, then with a powerful push of his legs, launched himself off the ground like a cannonball, dashing away in the opposite direction from Myza.

That's right, the opposite direction. He was fleeing!

Myza now understood why the commander hadn't acted early!

This fellow must have been planning his escape while the fight was ongoing!

Myza's lips twitched as he watched the retreating figure of the commander shrink. It was like having saved a strawberry on top of a cake for last, only to have it suddenly grow legs and run away.

But soon, he started laughing.

So be it if he ran.

Myza's target was never these small fry but the person behind them all.

That so-called tyrant was the main dish. A pre-meal appetizer wasn't really all that important.

"Run well and tell your master what you saw," Myza muttered. "I'll be waiting for him..."

Not too far away, the heads of Liu Ji and his companions poked out of the sand like three prairie dogs.

"Did... did you all see that?" Yaine murmured.

"Yeah." Osar gulped. "He's strong, and that was a commander he scared off..."

"Yes, incredibly strong." Yaine nodded. "And he was wielding a staff, yet he didn't use a single spell at all."

Liu Ji was completely baffled. He didn't understand what he had seen or heard, but he did think that the guy in black armor, who acted all cool and then ran away, looked pretty pathetic.

"So, what do we do now?" Osar asked quietly. "Do you think he's a friend or foe?"

"How should I know?" Yaine replied. "I didn't even think there'd be anyone here, let alone a whole city."

"There's nothing strange about that. Everyone who comes here says the same thing. In fact, this is the third time I've been told this in recent times."

A sudden voice startled the three of them. Turning around, they saw that Myza had somehow appeared behind them.

"Hey, don't be nervous. I don't eat people," Myza said with a smile, extending his hand to them. "Traveling in this desert isn't easy, right? How about coming into the city for a bit? I'll treat you to some shaved ice."
