Chapter 165 - Sunny Daze (11): Gunfight

*Few minutes ago*

Mirae ran after the cat, pushing anyone out of her way. Her mask fell off somewhere between the chase but she did not care.

"MOVE!" she bellowed as she crashed into people who jumped out of the way in fright. "Go away!"

She left a stream of curses behind her by angry club goers.

"Bitch you spilt my drink!" one of them shouted but Mirae did not care. She kept on following the cay on full sprint.

I have to get there! She thought. If anything happened to KJ, then not only will she be failing her mother, but she will lose a dear friend again. She would never be able to forgive herself.

And Ash...If something happened to him and he got exposed, she would burn down the whole Cartel herself…

"A little further," Jade assured her. They reached the parking lot. It was empty as all the club attendees were upstairs. 

"Where are they?" Mirae demanded. Under normal circ.u.mstances, she would have fainted upon seeing a talking cat. But the situation was so dire, that even the prospect of speaking to a cat took a backseat.

"There!" Jade pointed his paws at a door on the other side. In front of it, a small figure lay on the ground, unconscious.

Mirae hurried towards the person. She recognized her as the detective who had a tiff with her at the station.

"Hey!" Mirae slapped the detective's face. But she was out cold. Someone had struck her on the head with a heavy object to make her unconscious. A sudden gunshot rang through the air.

"What the-"

Mirae stood up and took out her gun. Stealthily making her way towards the door, she held her position. A lazy voice came out of the room. She pressed her ear against the door.

"Ash was raised by the President of the Cartel himself…" it said. Mirae froze. 

"Ash wanted the throne to himself and those two were becoming a headache…"

"I wanted to test you…" came Ash's voice. 

"So...all the time we spent together as friends...were a lie…" KJ asked.

"They were," Ash replied. "I wasn't beside you as a friend. I was there as your future enemy."

"And...her?" KJ asked. "What about her?"

"She was a distraction. I fancied her. Nothing more…"

*Back to the Present*

A sudden feeling of pain and disgust crept up in herself. Her stomach was in agony but her heart was in more pain. Hearing those words from the person she had loved...the person who promised her that they would run away after all this is over…

The excruciating feeling in her belly was getting unbearable as Ash's words stung her. She was so stupid to trust him. Even the indomitable CEO of Abyss bought his lies. Was everything really a lie? She questioned herself, as her forehead became sweatier and her eyes teared up with a mixture of heartbreak and pain.

"Are you alright?" Jade asked. She did not look good, as if she was being physically tortured. Mirae could not speak but shook her head. She was not okay. She gave up her heart to that person who was out to kill her friend.

She was not okay at all.

"Death doesn't scare me," KJ declared defiantly. "Go ahead and shoot. I dare you…"

He was about to get killed. He would rather face death than let anything happen to his friends. His words brought Mirae out of her moment of weakness. She would not let him face death. Not by the hands of that vile man. 

"I won't let you die…" she whispered, loading her gun. Opening the door, she stood at the entrance, aiming straight at Ash's head. She then pulled the trigger.

If Junhyung had not noticed Mirae's entry, Ash would have been dead right there. He pushed Ash out of the way. KJ looked up to see a bloodl.u.s.t Mirae, aiming to kill. 

"Mira-"

He tried to call but she was not listening. She kept on shooting at Ash and Junhyung, who were hiding behind a pillar to dodge her bullets. They started to shoot at her as well. Mirae dived in to pull KJ out of harm's way.

"We need to save Hyun!" KJ shouted.

"I'll go around the room and get him!" Mirae said, ignoring the sharp pains in her abdomen. "Use this!" 

She handed him a spare gun. "Don't die!" she told him before dashing through the barrage of bullets, avoiding them skillfully.

KJ aimed at where Ash and Junhyung were hiding. While he distracted them by shooting bullets Mirae managed to reach Hyun Jung and untied him. 

Ash shot at KJ but his gun was out of bullets. "I'm out!" he yelled at Junhyung over the gunfire.

"Me too!" Junhyung said, hiding behind the wall. "There's only one way now!" 

He hoisted his phone from his pocket and dialed a number, while Ash kept an eye on KJ.

Mirae and Hyun Jung snuck back in with KJ. "They're out of bullets!" KJ informed them. 

"I'll call Riggs and-" Mirae started but a loud crash interrupted her, throwing all three of them backwards.

A heavy SUV burst in through the wall, breaking into the room. KJ was thrown aback and he felt himself landing on his back while Mirae and Hyun Jung fell beside him. A few debris fell on them, making their vision dusty and blurry.

"What the-"

KJ coughed violently as he struggled to look up. He could make out the figures of Ash and Junhyung running towards the car. A girl around their age was driving it. Hyun Jung, too, saw a glimpse of that girl.

"KJ, it's that girl!" he wheezed. "She was...there during...the concert!"

Before KJ could get up, the car backed up and drove away, taking Ash and Junhyung. 

"T-they escaped…" KJ whispered. 

Heavy footsteps approached their direction. Somi entered the room followed by-

"Prosecutor Han?" Hyun Jung asked in surprise. Sunye was standing there, staring at the commotion with shock visible on her face.

Somi and Sunye rushed towards them. Sunye helped KJ to get up while Somi ran towards Hyun Jung and Mirae, who was completely unconscious.

"Mirae!" Somi cried, slightly slapping Mirae's face, trying to get her to wake up. KJ let go of Sunye and kneeled beside Mirae.

"Mirae…" he whispered. He noticed her pants were getting darker; her off white pants were stained red.

"I think...I think she's miscarrying!" Sunye said in alarm. Jade, who was hiding till the gunfire was over, looked at KJ in alarm.

"Mirae!" KJ shouted shaking her but she was completely out of it. Somi looked around frantically.

"Hyun, get help-" she began to say when her eyes fell on another unconscious figure lying on the ground. Her insides froze seeing that face.

"I'm calling the ambulan-" Hyun Jung started but Somi gripped him tightly in fear. She was pale as a ghost.

"Somi?" he asked, shaking her but suddenly white foam began to pour out of her mouth. 

"Somi!" he cried. KJ and Sunye, who were busy with Mirae, were shocked to see Somi convulsing over as she suffered a seizure.

"What is going on here?" Sunye demanded. One girl was unconscious and the other one was getting a seizure while three people tried to kill them and ran away. Everything was chaotic. She picked up her phone and dialed the hospital.

As soon as the operator picked up, she shouted "Get an ambulance to Sunny Daze! Two people have been injured here!"

Meanwhile, Hyun Jung and KJ were trying to revive the girls. "Somi, don't fall asleep!" Hyun Jung ordered.

"Mirae, wake up!" KJ exclaimed checking her breath. Thank god she's breathing, he thought but her eyes would not open.

Somi, who was still spitting foam from her mouth, weakly pointed towards the other unconscious figure in the distance. Following her gaze, Hyun Jung understood what she was trying to say.

It was Teppei.
