Chapter 13 – Steamed Crab

Luo Bei hurriedly shook her head and explained, “Yaoyao, if Zhan Qi and I were suitable with each other, we would have gotten together a long time ago. It’s impossible between him and I. You, on the other hand, if you do like him, you have to let him know. You have to break down the wall between the two of you somehow, right?”

Xu Yao heard Luo Bei’s words and sighed internally.

She knew Luo Bei. If she said it was impossible, it was indeed impossible.

“I’m just scared that we won’t even be friends in the future.” Xu Yao looked down, dejected.

Luo Bei couldn’t help but smile, “Are you sure you want to be just friends with him? Are you willing to be just a friend to him?”

Saying these things would only serve to deceive herself, to put it bluntly, she was afraid of being rejected.

As soon as Luo Bei stepped foot inside, she could smell the aroma of steamed crab.

The crabs sent by Uncle Cheng were very fresh. Grandma Luo was worried that the crabs could not be eaten tomorrow once they’re dead so she steamed them altogether. But she and her granddaughter could not possibly finish all of that between the two of them so she decided to give some to the tenants.

Grandma Luo said while preparing the condiments for the crab, “A relative far off is less helpful than a neighbor close by. Usually when our toilet is clogged, it’s also our tenants who help us. Look here, all the preserved ham and the preserved sausages in the refrigerator that we haven’t finished eating, they’re all from our tenants. I really like being close with our neighbors, I can drop in and chat with them this way, too. If they have difficulties, we should help where we can so that when in the future it’s our turn to have difficulties, they’ll help us too.”

In Luo Bei’s eyes, there was no one in this world kinder than her grandmother.

Everyone said that weaker people get bullied, but that wasn’t actually the case, at least not from what she had seen.

Her grandmother was kind to their neighbors, helping where she could. And now they were helping them back, just like Uncle Cheng.

Luo Bei was aware that Grandma did all this for her own good. Her parents left and had not returned for a few years. Grandma was scared that she would be bullied by others so she took the initiative to be kind to others. Grandma also said before that she was diligently committing good deeds and being kind to others in the hopes that these people would in turn treat her precious granddaughter well. This way, her precious granddaughter would be able to live life a bit easier.

Grandma believed that her good deeds would be reflected upon her granddaughter.

Before, Luo Bei couldn’t understand why Grandma would treat these strangers so well. But now she understood a little bit why.

Uncle Cheng sent over a lot of crabs, so much so that every tenant could get two each. When Luo Bei went to deliver the crabs, she also brought back the fruits and vegetables given by the tenants…

Finally, she arrived at the basement.

There were two rooms in the basement. A few days ago, the other tenant switched to a single room upstairs. It was now only Jiang Sihan living in the basement.

She had the inkling that Jiang Sihan would often starve himself so in addition to the crabs, she also brought along two apples and a banana.

When Jiang Sihan opened the door, he was shocked seeing Luo Bei at his door. He was even more surprised seeing the things in her hands.

“Someone sent over some crabs. We couldn’t finish them ourselves so Grandma is giving every room two crabs each.” Luo Bei stuffed the things into his hands, “You should eat these quickly. They’re not good kept overnight.”

Jiang Sihan was silent for a moment and said hoarsely, “Thank you, and thank Grandma Luo for me too.”
