This was simply too unorthodox.

While under the king's protection, this tactic was likely to succeed. It wasn't an unforgivable sin for heroes motivated by justice to kill some clearly tainted individuals. Moreover, Rode had all but secured his place in the Hall of Fire. For the royal city, which was in dire need of high-level combat personnel, such mistakes were forgivable as long as they weren't irreparable.

But the king intended to mold Rode into an even greater figure, a banner for the royal city, just like Arlan.
