300 Settle It Face-To-Face
“Yes, yes,” Jing Yan answered vaguely. He took a deep breath and decided to face reality. “Miaomiao, is it convenient now? I want to go to you. I have something to tell you.”
He Miao paused. Seeing that it was getting late, she did not want him to run around at night, so she shrugged and said, “What is it? You can tell me over the phone, or we can talk about it after we meet tomorrow.”
“No, I want to see you now.” He could not wait a minute longer. If he could not make sure He Miao was not angry at him for what he had done after he turned into a dog, he would probably toss and turn in bed the entire night and not sleep well.
He did not want to give her any chance to feel estranged from him, and he had to take any possible conflict seriously.
Hearing his insistence, He Miao thought that something big had happened. She quickly nodded and said, “Alright, come over then. I’ll let dad know and see you in the living room.”
After he hung up, He Miao ran to He Chen’s room and knocked on his door.
Inside, He Chen was sitting in his wheelchair and reading a book. When he heard the sound, he thought it was the housekeeper, so he let the housekeeper in without looking up.
He Miao pushed the door open quietly. “Dad, I have something to tell you.”
He Chen looked up from his book the moment he heard He Miao’s voice. He excitedly put down his book and beckoned He Miao to sit beside him. He asked with a smile, “What do you want to tell dad? Is there something missing in the room?”
“No.” He Miao shook her head slightly and told him about Jing Yan’s visit. Seeing He Chen’s frown, He Miao quickly said, “We’ll talk in the living room. Jing Yan never looks for me so late at night. He must have something urgent to tell me.”
He Chen knew his daughter’s character, so when he heard that the two of them were only talking in the living room, he did not stop them. He nodded and agreed, “Okay, but you have to pay attention to the time. Don’t go to bed too late, or it’s not good for your health. When you’re done talking, if it’s too late, let Jing Yan stay here.”
“Okay, thank you, dad.” He Miao’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled and was about to get up to leave.
Behind her, He Chen suddenly called out to her. There was not a single wrinkle on the face of the man in his forties, but there was a sense of uneasiness that was the complete opposite of his usual imposing manner. “Miaomiao, in your heart, have you ever blamed dad?”
He had already told her everything about him and her mother. Now, the child had understood that the suffering she had suffered all these years might have been because of his wrong choice. He had already let Ye Ning down, and he was afraid that his daughter would hate him because of this.
He Miao knew that his uneasiness came from his deep fatherly love for her. She smiled, walked over, squatted down, and took his hand. “Father, I don’t blame you. If you didn’t come back, I might not have a family that truly belongs to me. You gave me the warmth of a family.”
He Chen’s eyes reddened. He patted the back of her hand and heaved a sigh of relief. “Good girl. With daddy here, I’ll shelter you from the wind and rain. I’ll never let anyone bully you, including Jing Yan.”
He Miao smiled knowingly and nodded. “Alright, with daddy’s support, I’m not afraid of anything.”
The father and daughter took the opportunity to chat for a while more when the butler outside came to report that Jing Yan had arrived.
Only then did He Miao go to the living room to see him. Seeing the anxious expression on his face, she walked closer in surprise and asked, “What’s wrong with you? What happened?”
The butler also looked at Jing Yan worriedly. He poured him a cup of hot tea and let him sit.
Jing Yan took the cup and nodded in thanks. “Uncle butler, I want to talk to Miaomiao in private.”
The butler was stunned for a moment. He looked at He Miao’s expression and nodded with a smile. “Okay, then you guys take your time to chat. If there’s anything, just call me.”
The two of them were the only ones left in the large living room.
He Miao held his hand, the warmth in her palm gradually passing to him. “Can you tell me now? What happened?”
Jing Yan looked at the girl’s clear eyes. His Adam’s apple moved up and down, and he finally squeezed out a hoarse voice, “You, did you know I would turn into Onion?”
“What?” He Miao’s eyes widened in shock, and she was stunned for a moment as she looked away in embarrassment. It was only then that she realized that she had already known. Her brain could not keep up with her thoughts for a moment, and she nodded in a daze. “Yes, how did you know?”
Finally getting an affirmative answer from He Miao, Jing Yan could not help but take a deep breath. He lowered his head and apologized to her with a face full of shame and anger, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. I just didn’t know how to tell you.”
“You don’t have to apologize.” He Miao grabbed his hand and tilted his head to look at the apologetic expression on his face. “It’s not good to say this kind of thing out loud. I understand. You really don’t have to apologize to me.”
