“Where are the surveillance cameras? How’s the surveillance going?” He Miao looked at Chen Zhao, who was sitting in the front row. Her heart was in a mess.
Chen Zhao was in the front row contacting the company’s technical department. Hearing her question, he turned around and said with a serious expression, “We’re checking the surveillance footage. We should be faster than the police. If the surveillance footage is unfavorable to us, our technical staff will delete the surveillance footage immediately.”
“Alright,” she said. He Miao clenched her fists nervously, her body tightening unconsciously, and even her palms were covered in a thin layer of sweat.
Jing Yan gently took her hand and wiped the sweat off her palm. “Why are you so nervous?” he asked. “What’s the big deal?”
He Miao let out a breath and tried her best to calm herself down, but her body could not relax. “I’m worried that this matter will implicate you. Even if nothing happens to He Wei in the end, she won’t let you off the hook once she finds out that you’ve done something.”
“What’s the big deal if she doesn’t let me go?” Jing Yan raised his eyebrows and pulled her into his arms. He patted her stiff shoulders to calm her down. “Don’t worry. Even if she knows, I can make her shut up. She won’t dare to say a word.”
The technical department acted quickly. After finding the surveillance video, they immediately cut out the key parts and sent them to Chen Zhao.
Chen Zhao glanced at it briefly and felt relieved. He handed the phone to Jing Yan, who was sitting in the back row. President Jing, the reporter must have been taken away by the murderer who attacked He Wei. It seems that this incident was really directed at He Wei.
In the video, the unfamiliar man was wearing a black hoodie, and his entire face was covered by the hoodie, so his face could not be seen clearly. He was holding a weapon like a knife in his hand, and the knife was pressed against the reporter’s waist. Just like that, while everyone’s attention was on the press conference in front, he took the reporter away from the back door.
“Yes.” Jing Yan nodded after watching the surveillance video. “It seems like the murderer misunderstood the reporters as He Wei’s accomplice.”
He Miao agreed with him. “The reporter were sent by you guys, so they’ll definitely find ways to get information that’s unfavorable to me. The murderer might’ve only acted after hearing that.”
“So if this matter is made public, Miss He is likely to be scolded online like He Wei last time.” Chen Zhao knew the pros and cons. The public opinion of the netizens could not be controlled. If this incident was turned into a self-directed act by He Miao by someone with ulterior motives, not only would He Miao be affected, even her company’s new product would be affected.
Jing Yan returned the phone to Chen Zhao, his fingers tapping on the car seat unconsciously. “Save the person first. Ask the technical department to follow up and find out where the murderer and the reporter are as soon as possible. The police won’t make things difficult for me. We’ll investigate our own matters. Once we have a lead, we’ll do them a favor.”
“Alright,” he said. Chen Zhao quickly ordered his men to do it.
The car turned at an intersection and was about to pass by the hospital where Xia Yan was staying. He Miao thought of what Mo Ran had asked her to do and hesitantly tugged at Jing Yan’s sleeve. “Why don’t you let me go and see Yanyan first? I still have something to say to her.”
“Tomorrow, I guess.” Jing Yan patted her head to comfort her. “You made too much commotion just now, so many people in the hospital should be able to recognize you. If you go now and cause trouble, it won’t be good for Xia Yan’s recovery. I’ll accompany you to see her tomorrow, okay?”
“Alright,” she said. He Miao knew that what he said made sense, so she was no longer anxious about this matter. After all, she did not want to add to his troubles at this time.
If it were not for her, Jing Yan would not have been involved in such a messy matter.
Jing Yan could tell that she was anxious. He ruffled her hair and kissed her on the cheek, then coaxed her softly, “Don’t worry, it’s really not a big deal to me. You should rest well at home later, and leave this matter to me.”
“But, don’t forget the time.” He Miao reminded him with a hidden meaning.
It was already dark outside, and there was not much time left for him to move.
Jing Yan understood what she meant, so he nodded and smiled. “Don’t worry, just wait for my good news at home.”
The car soon arrived at the He family’s manor. The butler had been waiting there for a long time. Seeing that the two had returned safely, he heaved a sigh of relief. “It’s good that Young Miss is safe and sound. Master must be worried sick.”
“Where’s dad? I’ll go see him.” He Miao, accompanied by the butler and Jing Yan, walked through the garden and into the He family’s main hall, but He Chen was nowhere to be seen.
“Master is in the study.” The butler reminded her in a low voice.
Jing Yan helped her take off her coat with a smile and handed it to the butler. “I won’t go up with you then. Let’s keep in touch by phone.”
“Aren’t you coming with me to say hello to dad?” He Miao looked at him in confusion.
Jing Yan shook his head with a smile, and a hint of shrewdness flashed in his eyes. “No, I’ll go first. Be good and stay at home. Don’t run around.”
