Chapter 664

Chapter 664

There were numerous test tubes and unfathomable machinery. In the central test tube, the evolutionary heart known as Deus Ex Machina, which was linked to Rinne and the machinery god, was stored. There were also shelves filled with documents written in an unknown language.

The place definitely felt like someone's lab.

With how she pursed her lips, Rinne seemed displeased to have returned to the place where she had woken up.

"Master Davey, Rinne doesn't like the atmosphere here. It triggers Rinne's bad memories. Rinne considers this lowly."

Davey firmly grabbed her by the waist and moved in the direction of the test tubes, despite her constant attempts to flee. She struggled against him again and again, but despite the heavy weight against him, Davey was still able to dismiss her resistance lightly.

"Master Davey, Rinne considers this very lowly. It's deemed very shameful."

Davey ignored Rinne's defiance once again.

"I don't see what you want me to look at here."

The records were indecipherable, no matter how hard he looked. But deciphering was not as simple as just looking. It required relevant data to exist. But the characters used here were utterly indistinguishable from any known data. While the massive domain control system in the Heins Territory could be understood through magic similar to the C language, analyzing the records was an entirely different matter.

Did this mean there was nothing to gain here after all? The only discernible things were these massive test tubes, which even the Red Ribbon could not cut through properly.

"Rinne, do you remember anything?"

"Judgment: none. Analysis: none. Rinne considers this space very lowly!"

Davey caught her again as she attempted to flee.

"Tell me the truth."

Hearing his order, Rinne flinched.

"You think I haven't noticed you sneaking off to strange places more than once?"

This made Rinne flinch once more.

When Goddess Freyja chose her, Davey understood the reason. After all, it was inevitable.

Her behavior had changed too much from the beginning. It was as if she remembered something but deliberately chose not to speak of it.

After sharing his observation, Rinne’s resistance grew stronger.

"Hmm... This is intriguing. The behavior pattern of hiding something... I want to research it."

Even Milpieu seemed to notice something amiss in her behavior, and this made Rinne fall silent.

Was she really going to say nothing at all? To have come all the way here just to confront her was ridiculous.

"Milpieu, you take a look around other areas too."

"Your command is..."

"Before reporting to Josiah."

‘Will she disobey her lord's command as well?’

Milpieu reluctantly withdrew at his command.

When it was just Davey and Rinne left in the place, he gently sat her down and spoke softly, "I trust you."

"..."

"I believe in your ability, and I have trust in you."

"Davey, Rinne highly values your trust."

"Then... If you know something, tell me."

She didn’t say anything after Davey’s remark. But then after a brief moment, she began to slowly walk somewhere. She then placed her hand on the control panel, where her designated tube was located. She closed her eyes and started to murmur in a unique language.

As startled as he was, Davey still dared to approach her. But she quickly waved her hand to push him away.

"Rinne! Maximize the information transfer through restriction release!" She said as she looked up.

It was then that Davey could see it—an expression of bitter guilt on Rinne's face, which had appeared for the first time.

"Ten thousand years ago, Rinne summoned Goddess Freyja..."

Crack!

Rinne's shoulder twisted. She was starting to get destroyed on her own. And Davey, who was faced with such a situation, had to make a choice quickly—whether to abandon the truth or to save Rinne.

At that moment, old, stuffy truths did not matter anymore. Though such a decision was a bit perplexing, it was a natural result after a spirit goes through reincarnation. So Davey quickly subdued Rinne, immediately shutting her down.

As her body continued to quiver, it twitched and then stiffened as if it was powered off.

Woong...

Not long after, light began to shine in her eyes again.

[System Restart, Lion of God Rinne. Detection of multiple data losses. Recovery.]

After a short while, Rinne's eyes blazed blue.

[Restart successful. Reemergence of Rinne's memories.]

Rinne slowly lifted her head.

‘Please. Let it not be.’ Davey thought, hoping internally that what happened to Rinne was not a reset.

The absurd reality that Davey almost led Rinne to her death because of his own greed for the truth was staggeringly infuriating. Perhaps Goddess Freyja sent him here for a reason. Maybe because Rinne, bearing her descent, was a hindrance.

Eventually, after Rinne’s convulsion, she slowly looked up at him.

‘Please... let it not be.’

"Davey, Rinne's physical form is judged to be akin to a very young human. The display of Davey's desires is deemed highly impractical by analysis."

Hearing her words, Davey felt himself stiffen.

"Rinne. Incomprehensible. Rate lowly of Master Davey's desires. However, if it's an order for Rinne, implementation is possible."

Davey still didn’t relax one bit from when he had stiffened moments ago.

“Rinne. Cannot comprehend. Rate lowly of Master Davey’s desires. However, Rinne, if needed by Master Davey, can proceed.”

As she said so, she abruptly got up and lifted her skirt, but Davey was quick to place his hand on her head.

"Stop and lower the skirt."

His words made her hands pause.

Davey then said, "Tell me about the most recent memories."

‘Please... please,’ Davey muttered internally.

At Davey’s request, Rinne tilted her head and then softly replied, "Revisited this place with Davey. Considered an undesirable choice. Rinne dislikes this place. However, the reason is unknown."

The answer made Davey heave a sigh of relief.

Aside from Rinne, the memories he knew about her seemed to be sealed again, almost like a lock was put in place. If they were completely lost, there would be no reason to undervalue this place. And so while the memories had been sealed once more, they had not entirely disappeared. Whether that was for better or worse did not matter. If those memories were going to destroy Rinne further, then those old memories were not necessary.

Davey hugged Rinne silently and patted her head.

She then tilted her head, and with an expressionless face, she looked at him and emitted a glow.

"Master Davey, current actions are being recorded. The command to transmit to Lady Perserque is being executed."

Despite her saying so, Davey didn’t say anything back to her and simply remained silent for a while.
