Chapter 667. Trial
Davey sensed no deceit in what they said as they looked into each other's eyes, which conveyed their bewilderment.
‘What kind of shitty situation is this?’
Noticing how Davey dazedly stood on his spot, she cautiously raised her hand. “Uhm...”
"What is it?"
At this, she proceeded to hesitantly ask, “Have we met somewhere before?”
Just as Rinne looked like she was about to answer, Davey instinctively realized what could have caused this. It was obvious who was to blame—the mysterious mist that had enveloped them when they came out from the underground energy storage, where Goddess Freyja's power remained.
So now, they could no longer perceive Davey as Davey anymore recognize Davey. It wasn't like they had completely forgotten about him. After all, they still reacted to the mention of his name. They simply could not recognize him. So had his looks changed? That didn't sound plausible. Rinne would have noticed first, if such were the case.
Crash!!!
The door burst open, and dozens of knights rushed in as their urgent shouts filled the air.
"Saintess! Please, get back!"
With tense expressions, the knights drew their swords and surrounded Davey and Rinne.
"A blasphemous aura against the divine will has been detected!"
"Please step away, Saintess!"
"Hmph."
They were ready to confront Davey as if they were facing a life-threatening enemy.
A blasphemous aura against divine will? Essentially, they defined a "blasphemous aura" as a force against humans or those at odds with humans. But considering that devil magic originated from human medical advancement and physical research, their logic was flawed. Still, that was hardly a concern for them at the moment.
Davey could resolve the situation in a snap if he revealed the large stigmata on his back. But he chose not to.
Something was off in this world. He even began to doubt whether this was the same world he belonged to.
Then, the elderly knight, who seemed to have a high rank, declared, "If you surrender quietly, we won't resort to violence!"
This prompted the other nights to take a step closer.
In response, Rinne braced for action, prepared to defend at any moment.
"Um... Dad?"
Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon rubbed their eyes, having awakened from their sleep as if they had sensed the odd atmosphere. They then looked up at Davey curiously.
It was at that moment that the Saintess said, "Wait! Hold on a minute! There are children here. Don’t!”
But then, in response, one of the knights exclaimed, “Don't let appearances fool you! Did you not see it before? With Davey, the continental Saintess!”
‘What?’ Davey's eyes twitched.
"Say that again?"
"Be quiet!"
"No, what did you just say?" Davey asked with a frown.
The old knight responded to the question by sternly glaring.
"There have been instances of demonic and vampire powers using the guise of children to betray many people during wars! Do you think such tricks would work again?!"
"Master Davey's status as a Saintess is highly questionable," Rinne remarked, tilting her head and casting an innocent glance at Davey. She then glanced at Davey's chest before quickly averting her eyes. "Master Davey. Definitely a male, as confirmed by Rinne..." UppTodated from nô/v/e/lb(i)n.c(o)/m
"Keep it down," Davey replied and sighed.
It was absurd how these people sensed a 'blasphemous aura' from him when there was none. That just meant that the situation was truly not normal.
"I should head to the Heins Territory first," Davey muttered under his breath as he lifted Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon. He then swiftly stomped the floor.
Ooong!!!
Realizing what Davey was doing, the elderly knight immediately exclaimed, "He's using magic! Deploy the magic disruption barrier!"
Upon the given command, some clergy immediately pulled out peculiar-looking artifacts.
"These artifacts can even block high-level mages’ spells! So just give up! If you use magic recklessly here, your entire body will shatter into pieces."
[Dispel.]
Ooong...
Davey slowly waved his hand as he calmly spread his mana, causing the artifacts that were deploying the magic disruption barrier to start overloading.
Crack!!
It didn’t take long for the artifacts to begin bursting apart violently.
"It's impossible! Those were the artifacts directly entrusted to us by Saintess Davey!"
"Fascinating. Did this fake Davey create them?”
"Fake?! Don't joke around!"
Davey then muttered, "Goddess Freyja, there's much to discuss, but it seems you're not willing to listen for now. So, I'll follow along with this joke."
“Milpieu, could you help out?”
“Humans, insignificant...”
“If dying is what you desire, then go for it. Remember who's keeping you alive.”
“Not interesting,” Milpieu grumbled with a scowl before disappearing in a heartbeat.
In the chaos that had entirely turned into a battlefield, Davey suddenly became curious about the Saintess, who shared his name.
‘Who is it?’
And why was someone of the same name as his, who was neither a holy man nor a prince but a Saintess—a designation for a female—involved? The truth would likely require closer inspection.
‘Yes, if I meet her...’
Davey planned to first cause hair loss on her head.
‘Do not think your hair roots would be safe just because you are a woman.’
Zing!!!
A black aura flew directly to Davey and merged into his body.
“This...”
A familiar woman's clear voice rang out, asking, “Which fucking fool is causing trouble in my territory?”
A woman then appeared, tearing through space from the sky.
“Ah... Ah... Princess Davey!!!”
The eyes of the residents became impossibly wide from the surprise of seeing her suddenly appear from the sky.
“What are you doing?! Saving lives comes first, doesn’t it?! Get the residents to safety now!”
The guards immediately followed her command, swiftly evacuating the citizens in an orderly manner. Naturally, Davey had no reason to stop them. What he wanted to observe was the structure of this world and the existence of the uninvited guest who had taken his place.
She emanated an immense aura identical to his because of their shared physique. She was different from him, and yet at the same time, she was also similar to him.
“Master Davey... Resemblance is confirmed.”
Indeed.
“Do you want to die? What’s with the mess in someone else’s home?” She asked, showing an ominous smile toward Davey.
“Davey, the smile is also identical.”
Even though they looked remarkably alike, she had more beauty and purity than a man. Still, there was a threatening iciness in her gaze.
At a glance, she seemed to look like a mix of Davey’s appearance and of the Priestess Freyja from Goddess Freyja's memories.
“What are you doing in my home?”
She frowned at Davey’s question and said, “What kind of nonsense is that?”
“My line, bitch.”
Hearing the remark, her lips stretched into a smile. But then her expression hardened at what Davey had sent her way—the curse of Versha and the usual curses he typically used.
And the target was her shiny, long black hair, which gleamed beautifully.
‘The curse of baldness!’
The woman who stood in front of Davey had directly cursed his hair, and she then realized what Davey had done as well, making her frown deeply.
“This damn bastard.”
“If you prepared yourself to pluck out someone’s hair, then you should be ready to have yours plucked too. How dare you put a hair loss curse on someone?”
“...”
For the first time, she seemed surprised by Davey's words. She was apparently almost, if not exactly, at Davey's level. But she remained ignorant about Davey, while he had at least some information about her. The psychological warfare stemming from this difference had a significant impact.
“Megatron... What are you?”
Davey grinned at her question. “I am Davey O’Rowane.”
Ka-Boom!!!!
Davey and Princess Davey then moved at the same time with a tremendous speed that could not even be detected by anyone else. They caused a vast shockwave as they drew their swords against each other. But this time, they were different because the sword she drew was not Red Ribbon or Blue Ribbon. It was the white divine sword, Caldeiras.
“Why do you have that?”
“...”
“Where's its original owner?”
“Could you shut that mouth?”
Her aura became ferociously threatening.
Different. Several things were different. A prince was now a princess, and a holy man was a holy woman. The symbols of Davey O’Rowane were nowhere to be seen. So were Blue Ribbon, Red Ribbon, and Rinne.
What on Earth did Goddess Freyja want from Davey in this place?
