Chapter 671
Davey planned to raise the level of Princess Davey’s spirit. While the concept of spirit level was not known, it definitely existed. In fact, it existed across several stages. It was an enlightenment method that allowed humans to train and cultivate themselves. Basically, spirit level was the main indicator of their capabilities.
At the moment, Davey possessed a human spirit of high level. In fact, he held the highest level that a human could achieve since he had been trying for almost a millennium. Typically, humans were born with either a low or a mid-level spirit. While people typically had low-level spirits, geniuses like Illyna were thought to have mid-level spirits. As far as Davey knew, only two individuals were born with a high-level spirit. One was the heavenly boy, or rather, the heavenly girl of the Country of Spears, and Saintess Lena.
Humans who possessed a spirit of high-level could process and harness purer energy. They also had a much stronger influence on the world. This meant that even among humans, the level of spirits varied.
Originally, Davey had a low-level spirit, but he was able to successfully ascend two levels with the help of Hercules. It hadn’t really created a problem since the three levels of the human spirit could be elevated with enough effort. But the real challenge came afterward. From a logical standpoint, it was nearly impossible to advance further after reaching the highest level possible for a human spirit. UppTodated from nô/v/e/lb(i)n.c(o)/m
"Do you know why humans are called 'Horne'?”
The name signified a race that evolves on its own.
"I know." Davey nodded.
"Because humans evolve on their own, they try to elevate their levels, unlike other species or races. You're now audaciously peering into the domain of gods by trying to surpass the level of a human..”
It was taboo, even for Hornes, to exceed the limit of levels assigned to humans.
“I’m becoming a demigod, to be exact.”
"Hmm... that’s..." Princess Davey murmured.
"You know about the method to step into a higher level that Hornes cannot normally reach, don’t you?"
Davey suspected that perhaps Hercules’s power had more to do with the level of his spirit, rather than his sheer, physical power.
"Sigh... But Perse might experience side-effects and...” She trailed off. "You and I both know about the other problem, right?"
Davey was actually very reluctant to attempt elevating the level of Princess Davey’s spirit. After all, he had already tasted bitter failure when he once tried to ascend beyond the human level back in the Hall of Heroes, and the price of such a failure was the demise of a hero's spirit. He had also lost control of himself at the time, so he had avoided asking the heroes about it.
"You’re going to try again without knowing the reason for your previous failure? Are you out of your mind? Are you really going to just blindly attempt it because it's not your risk to take? Are you crazy?"
Princess Davey’s sarcastic remark provoked Davey, prompting him to grab her by the collar and seethingly say, “So, is there a better way to solve this situation? If there’s any, talk about it.”
Neither Goddess Freyja nor Neltarid, whose two natures had awakened, could possibly help. So what could they do in such a situation?
Perserque possessed a body that could not simply undergo Metamorphosis. Her limit was that of an Eighth Circle mage, and there was no way her physical level could ascend any higher. If Davey used the magic circle that normally induces Metamorphosis in him, it would surely fail if used on Perserque as it was. But if Princess Davey were to ascend above the level of the human spirit and become something more, she could start physical changes within her Perserque.
"We’re going to die if I don’t do this. That means we’re all going to die either way. So shouldn't we at least attempt to do something?"
"It might be better to invade the Abyss."
"If even one among the Princesses of the Abyss is on the same level as Sleesia, it will be a certain death for us. You should be thankful that the Princesses of the Abyss can't easily cross over to our land," Davey said.
In response, Princess Davey heaved a sigh. Right after, Baris came, announcing the unfortunate news about the Pallan Empire, as if to confirm the truth of everything Davey told Princess Davey.
After mulling over her complex thoughts, she finally looked at Davey and said, “Alright. Let’s do it.”
Princess Davey looked at Davey silently, and it didn’t go unnoticed by him.
"If you fail, you die too."
"That's why I sought your help," Davey responded.
"You’re spouting nonsense right now. Wait... What about... Per...?"
"The Metamorphosis of Perserque will be done by me. The holy power and mana are all gone, but my Power of Taboo and the divine and demonic powers are as strong as ever. It doesn’t matter what a cat is like, as long as it catches mice[1]. Right?”
For a moment, she looked dumbstruck. But then a small laugh bubbled out of her ."Crazy bastard. If we fail, you die."
"You also have the option of go killing yourself if you’re considering to chicken out from this."
Despite her curse, Davey focused on the Power of Taboo once again. His spirit slowly began to crumble like powder and then recover.
"Grrr... Ughhhh..." Davey gritted his teeth amid the terrible pain.
This place was unreal, and the situation was a fake future. Yet, it was a future that would eventually occur in his world. So to prevent and reduce the damage, he had to raise the level of his spirit to solve the problem associated with his Perserque.
After this, he would then deal with the monster, Over Mind, that would bring this future. Perserque, who was so kind-hearted, would surely cry all night long if her power caused someone else’s death, and Davey could not bear to watch it happen.
Crack... Crack crack crack!!!
Davey, enduring the pain from his spirit getting torn apart, valiantly clasped his hands together.
Clap!!!
Right then and there, he made the final preparations to pull out his ace in the sleeve to screw over Goddess Freyja. She would surely not have seen this coming.
Davey then casually said, "Goddess Freyja's may have given me this as a warning, but my power will love the treat."
He proceeded to feed all of the divine power into the Power of Taboo.
Thud!!!
Davey now obtained the power of a goddess itself, not a mimicry.
Unlike other heroes, Davey might not be able to ascend the level of human spirit using conventional means, but if there was a way, he would not distinguish between means and methods.
If Davey collected three warnings, then it would’ve posed a great problem. Perhaps Goddess Freyja never thought the power implanted in him as a warning would be used as material to feed the Power of Taboo and elevate the level of his spirit.
Boom!!!
As it fed on Goddess Freyja’s power, the Power of Taboo became more powerful in an instant, and it began to produce a result that was completely different from their previous failures.
