Chapter 26: Fighting a Vampire (1)
I run to the cover of the woods hoping to loose the vampires that were chasing me there.
'I know that this is a long shot, but I have got to do something.' I thought to myself.
Vampires have more heightened senses than regular humans. Not only that they are much stronger and faster than us.
'All I could do is keep quiet and hide until the sun rises.' That was my plan.
But looking up in the sky, it looks like sunrise is still some hours away. I looked at my body that was only in underwear and see that I was full of wound and bruises.
'This can't do. The vampires can smell my blood from a mile away.' I thought to myself.
As if God was helping me, I heard a flow of water not far from where I was. I quietly moved towards the location of the sound and I saw a running stream.
"Nice." I whispered to myself.
The sound of the stream can at least mask my footsteps. I can also wash away the dried blood that was staining my body. Once I dipped my body in the cold water, I flinched feeling the pain of my wounds especially the one at my back.
"That Griffin really had such sharp talons." I whispered.
I remember the Griffin's talon only grazing me, but the wound was quite deep. It was lucky that it had started to clot, something I find odd. As I know, a wound this deep should not start to clot and heal this rapidly. I got the wound just a few hours ago but it was starting to heal nicely.
'Shouldn't I be thankful about that.' I thought to myself. 'Before thinking about such things, let's make it out alive from here first.'
After having washed the blood out of my wounds and body, I looked at my tattered armor. It was filled with dried blood and looked like it cannot be used anymore.
'Now this is a problem.' I thought while examining the tattered armor. 'Without this, I cannot use my guns. I cannot withstand the power output.'
I remembered what happened to Stephen's arm. As he had said, it was toasted after firing just one shot.
'I will use my guns as a last resort.' I thought to myself. 'For now, I will be using my sword.'
I took the belt from my armor and put it on my waist while it hoisted the guns. I held my sword firmly on my left hand and tied it up nicely to it so that I will not be dropping it anywhere while running.
'This can be of use to me.' I thought while looking at my tattered armor.
I started tearing my armor to pieces and leaving them at places to throw off the vampires that are in my pursuit. The armor had my blood stained on them, and they will try to track me by scent.
"Come out little kitten." I heard the voice of the vampire from a distance. "This dog will play with you, hehehe."
My heart was thumping inside my chest after hearing the vampires voice.
'I must calm down.' I thought to myself. 'My loud thumping heart can be heard by the vampires.'
Just in case, I did not stray that far from the stream. The water's noise can help mask my movements.
"Are you here little kitten?" The vampire taunted once more. "I can smell you. There is no use in hiding."
I climbed a tall and sturdy tree as quietly as possible. My eyes are not that good in the dark, that is a disadvantage for me. Unlike vampires that can see clearly in dark places.
'They really are the children of the night.' I thought. 'Such a fitting name.'
Having a vantage point should at least give an advantage. Thankfully, this vampire is chatty. I have a rough estimate of where he is from the sound of his voice.
"When I find you, I will surely have a taste of you little kitten." The vampire said. "Your scent is so tasty that I was forcing myself not to take a bite. But thanks to you, I can at least have a taste of your sweet blood. I can just imagine how your warm blood will taste while it flows thru my lips and into my mouth until it passes to my throat. Hmm… it will be pure ecstasy."
The vampires words sickens me to the core. He looked like a pervert stalking his victim.
'B*stard!' I cursed him in my mind.
"Gotcha!" I heard him say. My heart leaped hearing his words. "Huh, not here."
I was so on edge in my current situation. Thankfully, the vampire took the distraction.
"Clever little kitten." The vampire said. "Leaving your bloodied clothes all over the place. Hahaha, do you think that will stop me. I know you are here, I can at least hear your little heart beating. You are clever to hide where there is a stream. I cannot pinpoint your exact location, but I am sure to find you little kitten. Better prepare yourself!"
With the vampire's words, I can feel him moving more fast than before.
'He is scurrying around in search of all the tattered armor I scattered.' I thought. 'This is not good.'
After he has gotten all of it accounted for, he could find my hiding spot. I held my guns but decided not to use it.
'Can I fight a vampire with my sword?' I thought to myself.
With my current situation, I do not have a choice but to believe that whatever power I have, it is something that can fight a vampire head on.
'He is just one vampire.' I thought to myself. 'I can take him by surprise.'
"It's over little kitten, I got all your decoys now." The vampire said. "*sniff sniff* I am sure I got you now."
My heart was thumping hard inside my chest. For sure the vampire had now pinpointed my location together with my scent. All I can do now is to act fast.
I heard the vampire dashing towards my location. I pulled out my sword and cut my palms and draw out some blood. I let it dripped below me, to help me have a second of an advantage.
I heard the vampire sniffing and dash below the tree from where I was hiding. He moved as if he was in a frenzy. When he appeared below me in a frenzied way I leaped on to him in a swift motion, aiming for his neck.
'Beheading a vampire is one of the better ways to kill them.' I remember Stephen's words. 'They have regenerative abilities as well, and so you need to deal a lot of damage to kill one. But I suggest to behead them in one fell swoop to kill them swiftly.'
