Today’s second chapter.

The rain that began to fall after crossing the border stopped by the time we arrived at the fort of the Margrave of Bonape, which protects the frontier, and the thick fog covered the whole forest.

The reason why the stone fortress built in the forest looks somewhat scary is because I remembered the rumors related to the frontier that I heard from Remilio-niisama.

“The forest of the Bonape Margraviate is famous as a suicide spot, and it seems that the souls of the dead wander around on rainy days. Those who hear the voices of the dead will be taken to the world of the dead. The Margrave of Bonape is also possessed by ghosts.”

There can’t be a ghost.

The reason why my spine is cold is because the temperature is low.

While telling myself that, I held Gresis-sama’s hand.

“Welcome, Your Highnesses of the Kingdom of Tenar. My name is Bonnard, the Margrave of Bonape and the head of the Knights. I was told that there is no need for a welcome party, so I will prepare the meal in the room. Please take a good rest.”

His Excellency Bonnard, who was in his forties, tied his long brown hair behind him, and the atmosphere was more like a lord than a knight commander.

The reason why the smile feels creepy must be because of my brother’s gossip.

I’m sure you might feel refreshed if you meet during the day.

That’s what I tell myself.

Two guest rooms were prepared.

Me and Gresis-sama in one room. Timir-oniisama and Frair-oniisama were guided to one room.

The guest rooms are next to each other, so if you go out on the balcony, you can have a conversation, and if you have the physical ability of a beastman, you can come and go.

When I finished dinner in the room, Gresis-sama said.

“After arriving at the residence, I heard a woman sobbing. I wonder what it is.”

I was so scared that I almost spilled my half-drunk tea.

“Is it a woman’s sobbing voice? I couldn’t hear it. Is it a ghost?”

“A ghost? I’ve never thought of it like that. I’ve never felt such an existence. Is Lilith afraid of ghosts?”

Gresis-sama, who sits across the table, looks at me with interest.

“Because, Remilio-niisama said that when you hear a ghost’s voice, you will be taken to the world of the dead. . . I don’t want Gresis-sama to be taken. In addition, women other than the maids are supposed to be in the royal capital for socializing and weddings. I don’t think a busy maid will be able to cry forever.”

When I was worried, Gresis-sama, who left his seat, stroked my head.

“It’s okay. Timir and Frair should be listening. Let’s check it.”

When I went to the balcony and was picked up by Gresis-sama, he jumped lightly and landed on the next balcony.

“Why don’t you come through the door?”

Frair-oniisama, who noticed us, opened the balcony door.

“It’s troublesome to have an escort outside. I have something to ask you.”

“Oh, a woman’s voice. I heard it. I wonder what happened. I didn’t want to cause trouble, so I kept quiet.”

It seems that Timir-oniisama also heard it.

“A ghost? That’s not it. Do you feel relieved?”

Frair-oniisama patted my shoulder.

“Yes, but if that’s the case, who is it?”

“Can’t you think of it as a beastman slave?”

At Gresis-sama’s words, my brothers-in-law sighed.

“I can’t say for certain the it isn’t.”

“If that’s the case, I can’t overlook it. It’s troublesome, but let’s go and check it out.”

“I want to go too. I want to be sure that it’s not a ghost.”

I pulled Gresis-sama’s sleeve and stared at it.

“I may fly by jumping trees or kicking walls. I might even fall when I land, but do you want to go?”

This is the third floor, and I guess we will start from the balcony to avoid the guards.

But I’m also afraid to stay in the guest room alone.

I might meet a real ghost while Gresis-sama is away.

“If I’m scared anyway, it’s better be with Gresis-sama.”

“I see. I’ll be as careful as possible.”

Gresis-sama gave me a gentle look and stroked my cheeks to reassure me.

“Then, it’s decided. Well then, let’s have the chamberlain rest now.”

Follow Timir-oniisama, we go back to the guest room once, and rest. I told the chamberlains waiting outside the room.

Then, the chamberlains can rest early, so it’s convenient for both of us.

When I let the chamberlains rest and turned off the lights in the room, I wore a hooded robe that was given to me when I entered the Kingdom of Seiran and went out to the balcony with Gresis-sama.

It’s pitch dark around here and I can’t see anything, and I can’t hear a woman crying.

For me, it was all I could do to recognize the brothers-in-law who came out on the balcony next door.

“Lilith, let’s go.”

“Yes.”

In the dark, Gresis-sama held me and jumped from the balcony on the third floor to the next tree with my brothers-in-law.

In addition, they jump to the next tree towards the voice.

In order not to be found on patrol, they used a slightly raised scaffolding of the fort as a stepping stone, ran up the wall, jumped over the wall, and arrived at the roof of the spire with only one balcony at the top without ever descending to the ground.

The spire is quite high.

Even in the dark, if you look down, you can see that the ground is far away, so it’s scary.

“It’s here.”

At the words of Gresis-sama, Timir-oniisama looked around.

“Obviously it’s the purpose of locking them up. There’s no place to escape, and there’s a guard below.”

“Is it a beastman or a criminal?”

Frair-oniisama put his hand on his chin and frowned.

When I got down on the only balcony, I looked inside from the shadows.

A woman is crying near the bed.

It’s not a ghost.

“Eh?”

I couldn’t help but look at the crying woman twice.

“Do you know each other?”

“Nonelia-oneesama. . . She’s the fiancée of Remilio-niisama.”

“”Eh?””

As expected, Gresis-sama and my brothers-in-law were also surprised.

When I knocked on the window and opened the large window, it was not locked and opened easily.

“Her Highness Lilith!? Why are you here? Is this perhaps the Kingdom of Tenar?”

Nonelia-oneesama was surprised and turned pale in a low voice.

“No, this is the citadel of the Margrave of Bonape. I’m on my way to the royal capital to attend the wedding. Isn’t sister-in-law supposed to be in the royal capital?”

“Yes, but I left the mansion in a carriage to match the outfits for the ceremony, and I got sleepy at that time, and when I noticed it, I was trapped here. I didn’t expect to be brought to the frontier. . .”

I’m at a loss for words because of shock.

“So you’ve been kidnapped.”

Hearing Timir-oniisama’s voice, Nonelia-oneesama, who noticed the beastman, stiffened her shoulders.

“Sister-in-law, I know you’re surprised, but their highnesses are my husband and brothers-in-law. They are very kind gentleman, so please don’t worry.”

When I smiled, Nonelia-oneesama also looked a little relieved.

“Lilith, if we stay too long, we may be noticed by the watchman. We’re going to leave quickly.”

“But, Nonelia-oneesama.”

“Leave it to me.”

Frair-oniisama knelt in front of Nonelia-oneesama and held out his hand.

“Miss Nonelia, why don’t you get out of here with us and go to the royal capital where your fiancé is? If you want to do that, I’ll carry you.”

Even if Prince Frair, a member of the royal family, is a beastman, it is obvious that he is superior to the Duke family of Nonelia-oneesama. Nevertheless, he goes out of his way to kneel down and treats her like a gentleman.

Nonelia-oneesama is not such a rude lady that doesn’t understand it.

Nonelia-oneesama gently took Frair-oniisama’s hand.

“It’s an honor to hear that from your highness.”

“Then, excuse me. Please hold on tight.”

Frair-oniisama picked up my sister-in-law and advised her.

“Also, please don’t speak out no matter what happens or they will find out.”

“Understood.”

Nonelia-oneesama nodded her head.

“Lilith too.”

Gresis-sama picked me up again and reminded me with a smile.

“. . . Yes.”

I clung to Gresis-sama and closed my eyes.

We followed the scaffolding as if falling from the tower, jumped to the tree, moved from tree to tree, and finally reached the balcony of the guest room.

No matter how many times I experience it, that speed and floating feeling are scary.

Nonelia-oneesama was also quite scared, so she was dazed.

“I’m going to sleep in the room with Timir and Frair. You should tell the maid about the situation in the morning.”

Gresis-sama and my brothers-in-law were considerate and left the two of us alone.

“Then, shall we go to sleep.”

I turned over the duvet and urged the other person.

“It’s disrespectful to sleep in the same bed as Princess Lilith.”

“Even though you sleep with my brother?”

I remember that she stayed at the royal palace several times.

“That’s. . .”

Looking at me tilting my head, Nonelia-oneesama is turning red.

“The wedding is coming up, so don’t accumulate fatigue. I want to see my beautiful sister-in-law at the ceremony, so please give up.”

When I smiled, Nonelia-oneesama gave up and lay down on the bed.

“Thank you, Your Highness Lilith. I didn’t think I would be able to meet Remilio anymore. . .”

Nonelia-oneesama shed tears.

My sister-in-law, who is always dignified and does not show tears no matter how hard it is according to the queen education, is crying.

I was happy to hear that she really likes my brother.

“We will definitely deliver you to my brother.”

Even so, I’m glad it’s not a ghost, but my sister-in-law.

By now, my brother should be looking for my sister-in-law with a demonic expression.

Even if he can’t find her, he can’t change the schedule of the ceremony, so another lady will be assigned and the ceremony will be held.

We must definitely avoid that happening, as we can see that everyone will be unhappy without omission.

My brother was friendly, calm, and worked hard to be able to do anything.

It’s all because he wants to be seen well by my sister-in-law, and for my brother, he only sees other ladys as pawns.

I guess my sister-in-law doesn’t know such a side of my big brother.

I put on the duvet and smiled at my sister-in-law who was tired of crying and fell asleep.

Didn’t we make quite a good achievement? I’m sure my brother will appreciate it.

I don’t think Gresis, Timir, or Frair will be able to sleep. After all, they just found out that the person in charge of the place they are staying is even willing to kidnap the future crown princess. He probably wouldn’t have any problem with causing problems for them. It doesn’t seem like Lilith realized that yet.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter and thank you for reading!
