CHAPTER 45 HE IS RIGHT?

((( CLAIRE )))
I was glad at the thought of her finally accepting her child but was deeply shocked to hear the charity. It was the same foundation that paid for Dexter's treatment. All the dots were suddenly connected and those separate acts of strange kindness were obviously the doing of a single person.
"Ever since Derick entered our house, luck kept coming in," Amy happily concluded.
"Don't you think so?"
"Maybe," I lied.
I paused for a while and remembered Dexter was up for discharge as well. I usually walked but since this new place has gotten a little farther from the hospital, I had to commute.
And as soon as I got off the bus, somebody grabbed me by the arm.
It was him.
I have been thinking of him the entire day so his sudden presence felt like my fears personified.
"D-derick?" I stuttered in shock.
He smiled widely.
"Why do you look like you've just seen a ghost? How are you?"
"Just fine."
He freed my arm as he took a bouquet and a box of chocolates that he kept hidden behind his back, "For you."
"You didn't have to Derick."
He smiled more at the mention of his name.
"Good you called me by my name. I was just worried because I haven't seen you this long. I'm thankful you're alright," he buoyantly looked me in the eye.
I've been aching to ask him about all the charitable help I was receiving lately and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. But I didn't know how to start…
"Derick," I might sound proud but I don't know how else to say it
.
"Please stop all the things you we're doing for us."
I felt a little ashamed at myself. This man has been helping me a lot and instead of being thankful, I was pushing him away. Does he really love me?
Or was he just playing around?
