Chapter 173 - Chapter 173

((( ZHIO )))

"Claire-"

She ran towards the bathroom.

I called for the maids to clean the mess then followed her to the toilet. Unlike her first week, the day's vomiting was light and short. She returned back and slept fast at the sofa as if nothing happened.

I felt sorry seeing her like that.

I sat at the empty space beside her and followed her to sleep.

(CLAIRE)

Beeping tunes from Zhio's phone woke me up. He was sat in a deep sleep beside me. For a moment I considered waking him but I took the phone instead.

It was an unregistered number.

I looked back at Zhio and poked his face.

He's still asleep.

I continued poking his face until he slowly opened his eyes.

"Somebody's calling," I told him.

He took the phone from my hand and nonchalantly ended the call without even looking at it. His eyelids were dropping half-shut again as he pulled me closer to a hug.

The phone rang again.

I removed his arms from me and watched it, then him, with intrigue.

He took the phone and answered it. But just as fast, he threw it against the wall. I was surprised.

"Zhio…"

"It's a death trap. Another bullshit."

Death threat.

That was his life.

Like a chess game, he was the king surrounded by enemies who wanted him down.

"Zhio…" I hugged him and pinched his ear ungently.

"It's your fault for going against people!"

He smiled but mocked me with an affectionate expression.

"What if you resign doing your job," I withdrew from the hug.

It was his turn to flick my ear in equal ungentleness,

"I couldn't. I have to brave through life, especially now that you're here."

"You have people. Don't do it alone."

"I was left with that responsibility, as the remaining Zel Cantheliz, to carefully handle the riches of our lineage. And it wasn't my fault."

"Then," I started the question I was so eager to get answered, "the curse on your family is real? T-that there will always be one Zel Cantheliz left?"

He breathed heavily,

"That was just chance Claire; it happened once and never will be. History shouldn't repeat itself…especially that the company is growing. Somebody else, another Zel Cantheliz as much as possible, should handle all our possessions when I'm gone."

My stomach churned in unease. I stroked it, down to where I supposed our baby was,

"then…about that…when a Zel Cantheliz is born, the mother dies."
