Lu Fang was out to meet Pie Wang and his son, Pie Liqin. Since they were already in the city, he took the opportunity to visit their business partner's main headquarters.
While the couple was dealing with the Smiths a few months back, Andrea had pointed out the problem with most of the projects. They had an executive who embezzled funds affecting the company's capacity to carry out its objectives effectively. Shortly after the individual's dismissal, Pie Wang's health also improved. They could only suspect the same person had a hand in it.
"Lu Fang, it's nice to see you again," said Pie Wang. "Where is Andy?"
"She is taking care of the babies. I'm afraid she is not coming. We are heading back to Beijing in the afternoon, so there is a lot to prepare."
They were inside a small meeting room in Global China's building when they made introductions.
"This is my son, Pie Liqin. He is Xian's father."
Lu Fang and Pie Liqin shook hands, greeting each other.
"Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too."
Pie Wang turned to a woman in her late twenties who was standing next to his son. "This is Megan Wong, our new CFO."
Megan smiled at Lu Fang and extended her hand, but to her dismay, he simply smiled at her saying, "Nice to meet you."
She frowned and quickly took back her hand.
After taking their seats, Pie Wang unfolded to Lu Fang the organizational changes in Global China, "As I have told you, I am officially retiring and my son, Liqin will be taking over my role as the president."
"Lu Fang, we are always very thankful for Andy's help. We wish we could have met her today, but having babies, two in your case, can be tough, " said Pie Liqin.
"Wait," Megan interrupted. "You have kids? And Who is Andy?"
The man looked up to her and plainly answered, "My wife. Andy is my wife and yes, we just had twins."
"Oh. I see. Congratulations," responded Megan as she placed a hand on her chin, smiling at the man.
"Thank you," the man acknowledged, then quickly diverted his attention to Pie Liqin as they resumed discussing the projects they were working together on.
Megan Wong continued to focus her attention on Lu Fang, admiring his good looks. She tried to display her voluptuous assets, but he gave no interest at all.
'How disappointing,' she thought.
Lu Fang offered his assistance in looking into the executive whom they have dismissed and possibly hold him in Gabriel's Den. Should they find pieces of evidence that he was responsible for Pie Wang's health problems, he would surely make him suffer.
The man quickly concluded their meeting after getting all the significant matters addressed. They bid their goodbyes with promises of more collaborations in the future.
After their meeting, Megan Wong could not help but be curious about Lu Fang. She immediately looked him up, but unfortunately, there was less information on him. He did not even have a social media account.
She found a forum that featured him as one of Beijing's most eligible bachelor. There was an employee of Lu-Wei Enterprises who claimed that Lu Fang is not yet married as there was never a ceremony and that they were not invited.
"But he did say she was his wife," she murmured to herself.
She then smiled thinking of a solution and told herself, "I guess. I'll have to find out for myself."
She went to the CEO's office and requested from Pie Liqin that she handle the accounts co-managed by Lu-Wei Enterprises and he agreed. Liqin did not find fault in the request and Megan was a competent CFO having been worked for the company for more than ten years.
Returning to her office, she took an Aster flower from one of the secretaries' table on the way. After finding herself behind her desk, she started picking on the petals saying, "Single, Married, Single, Married."
When she was left with the last two petals, she picked one saying, "Single." Then she picked the last one and said," Hmmm... Like that matters to me."
Meanwhile, Andrea was busy getting their things ready as they were about to leave for the airport. They had a wonderful four days in Guangzhou but sadly; they needed to return and have more work done.
As she was frantically collecting her clothes, she failed to notice her phone had been ringing for nearly an hour. It was only when she finished packing that Andrea referred to her device. She found herself staring at the screen, seeing thirty-five missed calls, ten from Yeong and fifteen from Yanmei.
She pouted her lips as she called Yeong.
"Andy! Why have you not been picking up? I have been calling you for almost an hour! Have you spoken to Yanmei already?" She heard her brother shouting on the other line.
"No, I tried the other night but her phone was switched off -"
"Well, call her again! She has been avoiding me at the office and she did not come to work today so I am here at her apartment. I have been knocking at her door, but she would not answer!"
"Okay! Okay! Relax. I'll call her."
Andrea hung up the phone immediately, irritated by her brother's commanding tone. She quickly dialled Yanmei's number and then on the first ring, her call was answered.
"Andy, Andy… What am I going to do?" It was Yanmei, clearly panicking as she spoke.
"What is going on with you and Yeong? And why are you avoiding him?"
"Andy, I've been trying to convince him since last week that we break up. You know our fake relationship, but he wouldn't and I could no longer take it - "
"Take what?"
She suddenly heard Yanmei crying on the other line.
"Yanmei? Yanmei! What's going on?"
"Andy, I like your brother and I practically threw myself in the lion's den when I confessed to him. Since then I've avoided him, scared of his reaction."
"Why would you avoid - Wait… Did you just say, you like Yeong? And you confessed to him?"
"I know! I made the stupidest mistake in my life. I really did not mean for this to happen and I know your brother hates women - Andy, I'm resigning from work effective immediately."
"Andy? Andy?"
Andrea was in total shock. Her mind suddenly marveled at the idea that Yeong might actually like Yanmei back. Despite the confession, her brother did not fire her. In fact, he had been looking for her. 'Could it be possible that my brother had finally been struck by my cupid arrow? Hmmm, I wasn't a failure after all.'
