After nearly an hour of watching Kang Liang cry in the bed, Lu Fang cleared his throat, saying, "Mr. Kang. Can I have my phone back, please?"
Kang Liang realized what he did wrong. He quickly got up and handed the man his device as his hand trembled. He was still gasping for air when he said, "I'm sorry. I - I did not know what came over me. I'm sorry, Mr. Lu."
Lu Fang carefully took back his phone and put it back to his pocket. He was also feeling his heart throbbing, seeing Kang Liang's reaction to his brother's photo. He heard him ask, "Who - who is that boy? I feel like… Like I know him…I must know him, somehow... Please, Mr. Lu… Please tell me who is that boy."
The man wanted to spiel it out, but he knew he had to wait. He looked back to Kang Liang and said, "I will tell you when the time is right."
"I just… want to know who he is," said Kang Liang with pleading eyes. He felt it was the key to his identity. For many years he felt lost. Now, there may still be hope after all.
'Finally,' he thought. 'Finally, an emotional connection which he had never had experienced. That boy - that boy must be related to me.'
He requested once more, however, seeing Lu Fang insist that there was a need to wait. He tried his best to compose himself. He realized, at that point, it was best to cooperate with Lu Fang so he will be blessed with the answer to his question.
Lu Fang allowed him to get some water that way he can continue with his story. When he saw he was ready, he said, "Mr. Kang. Why did you ask for money?"
"I was not really expecting him to give me a million dollars. What I was hoping for was for him to find out if - I - if I was really the man who…killed his father and maybe even tell me who I am - I don't know - to tell you the truth... I am confused myself."
"Well now, Mr. Lu. Here I am…. I have been discovered and found out... And it was not such a bad thing - being able to eat since yesterday," he said, trying to see the bright side of being caught. "Maybe - I should have approached you sooner, but - I was also scared that I might have been the one who killed Gao Rou's father."
It was clear to Lu Fang that this man was uncertain of his actions. If he truly knew Gao Rou and his family, he would know that one million dollars were something they could easily pay up. Nevertheless, all this conversation would be meaningless unless the DNA test returned to be positive.
"Mr. Kang, I have a family matter I need to attend to. I won't personally attend to your care, but my men will give you everything you need. I am already in the process of doing my own investigation and I will revert to you… If I ever find out who you are… Just know that I might bring you to Beijing after tomorrow," said Lu Fang.
The man extended his hand to him, and Kang Liang reluctantly shook it. "I am sorry for what Rou Yanlin and his facility did to you... Thank you for speaking with me today… I will see you again in three days."
After giving his men detailed instructions for Kang Liang's care, Lu Fang returned to Guangzhou that day, utterly unresolved. However, there was nothing he could do. The DNA test was the ultimate truth.
Upon his arrival at Guangzhou airport, he was met by his wife.
Andrea gave him a warm embrace. They talked on the phone before he left from Shanxi. Thus, she knew he wanted to get it over and done with, and so did she.
The man was silent during the entire hug. He breathed into the scent of his wife, calming his emotions. He then heard her say, "Tomorrow. We will know tomorrow… then the path to take will be much clearer."
He nodded and took her hand, getting inside the private Limo of the Royal Dragon.
Unknown to Lu Fang, his father, Lu Wei, also had not rested well since the discovery of Kang Liang. It was even worse when he learned of his reaction to Gao Rou's picture. Part of him was blaming himself.
The father and son barely slept that night, waiting for the news to arrive.
The next day, Everyone in the Xia mansion woke up early, excited to meet Yeong and Yanmei. It was Li Wen who picked them up and brought them to their estate where Andrea and Lu Fang remained.
Hearing the housekeepers rushing to the door, the man knew his brother-in-law had arrived. He stepped outside to meet him while Andrea was getting the children.
"Yeong," said Lu Fang while extended his hand to Yeong. They shook hands for a second, giving mischievous grins.
"Lu Fang, you certainly saw to it and made use of Andy's godly genes for the right purpose," Yeong commented on the fact that her sister was pregnant with twins once again.
The man's eyes thinned at his brother-in-law before teasing, " which is something you should be doing, unless… you need some manly advice." He lifted his chin up and gave a smirk before adding, "how about I teach you a thing or two this time around."
Yanmei's face turned red while Li Wen laughed and opened her arms to embrace them all. "I feel this is going to be a wonderful reunion."
"Where is Andy?" Asked Yeong.
"Uncle! Uncle! Yey! Uncle!" The twins came running from the main door, expecting gifts from Yeong. Andrea came behind them, bringing Angela in her arms.
While they were receiving Yeong and Yanmei from outside the Xia mansion, Lu Fang's phone finally rang.
Andrea saw her husband staring at the phone. She knew immediately what it was about that she let him have a moment and guided the children back to the house. She turned to her siblings saying, "He has an important call."
"Hello, is the result out?" Asked Lu Fang.
"Yes, sir. We sent it to you via email."
The man closed his eyes and took a deep breath before finally opening his email. He opened the attached pdf file and read the conclusion.
In all analyzed, Kang Liang does show the genetic markers which have to be present for the biological father of Gao Rou. The probability of Kang Liang being the biological father of the subject, Gao Rou > 99.9999 %.
