Xiao Lei glanced at the school blazer that she left hanging at the end of the bed and with a proud expression, she nodded, "Imperial Secondary."
"Since your son is attending Imperial Secondary, then you must've been quite well-to-do yourself. Why were you so afraid of the hospital bills earlier?" Guang Ying asked in an outright manner.
"Guang Ying…" warned Callum. He frowned at Guang Ying's weird behavior. Normally, the guy would not even bother to talk to strangers, but today, he seemed oddly talkative for some reason.
"Ah, it's alright…" said Xiao Lei as she nodded at Callum. She smiled and looked at her unconscious son before she replied to Guang Ying, "My son is extremely smart… He won an all-expense paid scholarship to attend Imperial Secondary."
The all-expense scholarship was one of the toughest scholarsh.i.p.s to win in the world. The scholarship would only consider applicants based on merits. The applicants had to be great at both sports and academics. In addition, before they could even apply, they had to take a questionnaire and from which, a specifically tailored IQ test would be created for them.
This was to make sure that the results they received from their primary school were due to their own intelligence and not a fluke or rote memorization.
In addition, they would be tested in three sports of their choice as well. The sports coaches in Imperial Secondary were ex-Olympians, and they would be testing the applicants to make sure that they met all the requirement.
The only way for an applicant to skip this part of the test was to get a doctor's note to clear them off. However, they had to visit specific hospitals to get the doctor's note. This was to avoid anyone from trying to escape the physical test.
Callum and Guang Ying who used to study in Imperial Secondary knew what the scholarship system was like. After all, the system did not change much since it was created almost 80 years ago.
So, when they heard that the boy, who seemed to be from a poorer background, managed to win the prestigious scholarship, they were impressed. He had to compete against children who came from a rich family and who probably had tutors all their lives. The odds were stacked against him from the beginning, and yet, he still managed to win.
"So, he lives inside the dormitory?" asked Guang Ying as he glanced at the small embroidered initials "E.S" at the left side of the blazer.
The Elite Scholars, who won the all-expense paid scholarsh.i.p.s, would usually stay in the dormitory during the school season. The dormitory had everything that they would need. As opposed to the normal scholarship winners who had to share their rooms, Elite Scholars would get their own en-suite rooms.
In addition, their rooms would be bigger as well.
The reason behind this application was that 90% of Elite Scholars came from a wealthy background. Of course, such students did not need any scholarsh.i.p.s. Most of them applied for the scholarsh.i.p.s to show off their superior intellect or upbringings.
Xiao Lei blinked at Guang Ying as she wondered how he would know about it. However, seeing the car that the man's partner was driving earlier, and the way they dressed, she could tell that there came from a rich background and they might even be students of the prestigious school.
So, she then replied, "Yeah… but it's his birthday today, so he applied for a leave from school so that we can celebrate it together."
"I see…"
Xiao Lei scratched the back of her head as she said, "I'm sorry that he ran out in front of your car… If there are any scratches, I'll pay for it. Just give me your contact details."
"It's fine. Life is more important than a car," said Guang Ying. He thought for a moment before he said, "Excuse me while I talk to my partner for a while."
Guang Ying and Callum then walked out of the room. Once the door was closed behind them, with a serious expression, Guang Ying said, "Do a background check on her."
"Why?" asked Callum with a confused expression.
"I want her to carry our child."
Callum went "Huh?"
He was extremely confused by Guang Ying's behavior today. Earlier, the latter barely wanted to talk about it and did not even want to narrow down the final applicants. But now he wanted to pick a woman off the street just like that?
This was the same man who complained about one of the candidates for not being "fancy" enough!
Callum shook his head. He wondered what his "wife" was really looking for.
Guang Ying knew what he was thinking about, so he explained, "She's beautiful without any makeup, has a great body, and her height is at least 170 cm. Along with your genes, any child between the two of you would be beautiful.
"Also, based on the callous on her hands, she's probably a hardworking woman. I like that. You're too lazy sometimes, and I'd like our child to be a little hardworking. Furthermore, she seems like quite a loving mother, and if that's her biological son, that means that her IQ is not that bad.
"She said that her husband left them, but I don't know if he passed away or if he left, so you have to check more on this. There's only so much I can ask. It also seems that she's not rich as well, so she might agree to this if we give her a good enough terms. Also, based on what she said earlier, she doesn't seem like a greedy woman, but I want more details about her past before I can conclude on this."
As Callum listened to Guang Ying explaining about the woman's pros and cons, he suddenly raised his hand and covered the latter's mouth before he asked, "Wait… Wait a minute! You found that in the last 30 minutes?"
Guang Ying frowned and slapped the man's hand away before he responded, "Basic observation skills, something you should learn more about, you idiot…"
Used to the insult from Guang Ying, Callum smirked. To him, the word "idiot" had a similar meaning to "love of my life".
He took out his phone and before he stepped aside to make a call, he said, "I'll get to it then."
