Chapter 16 - A little daredevil and a little angel

"So, can you tell me more about my future baby's daddies?" Xiao Lei turned to look at him.

Han Ye continued to focus on the road while he replied, "Let's see… Director Shenlong is Shenlong Xun, the next heir to the Shenlong Family. Mr. Luo is Luo Guang Ying, the son of our late disgraced Vice-President Luo…"

Xiao Lei placed a fist on a palm as she exclaimed, "Wait! I know this! But isn't Luo Yin's the son of the late Vice President Luo?"

Not long after her husband's disappearance, she kept her eyes on the news almost every day.

During that period of time, she was wrought with worry and fear. The first thing she did every morning and the last thing she did every night was to watch the news. At that time, there was a piece of news about a major accident at Imperial Primary which was later reported to be the driver driving under the influence. Excluding the driver of the trailer, 8 lives were lost, 2 of which were young children.

As bad as it was, Xiao Lei was relieved once she found out that her husband was not among those who died that day.

She still kept her eyes on the news for a long period of time. She did not know what she wanted to get from watching the news. An unidentified body found abandoned in a creek? A killer caught? A foiled assassination?

Until ZhiHao went off to Imperial Secondary. He made her promise not to obsess over it, and in order not to worry her son, she promised. That was when she cut down on the news.

Her obsession with the news then exposed her to the Luo Family's stories. It was a by-the-way kind of news. So, she did not pay too much attention to it, merely picking up pieces of information every now and then.

Han Ye smiled as he answered, "Yes, but what most people didn't know is that Vice President Luo has another son who tends to hide away from the limelight. His eldest son, Mr. Luo Guang Ying. Don't worry though. Mr. Luo Guang Ying is nothing like his father or his brother. He's a good man."

"Oh…"

"Anyway... To continue, our dear Director Shenlong and Mr. Luo got together about two to three years back. And I guess, with President Du having a cute daughter and another son on the way, the two want the same thing as well…"

Xiao Lei nodded. She looked out the window but a minute later, she turned her gaze back to him and asked, "Do you think they'd be good parents?"

"No… But I know they'd be great parents. I've seen them with Little Monkey. She's President Du's young daughter. They're always gentle with her, and they always got time for her even though she's mostly babbling random, incomprehensible words nowadays."

He glanced at her through the rearview mirror and consoled her, "You don't have anything to worry about those two..."

Xiao Lei nodded before she sighed softly in relief. She glanced out the window for a second before she looked back at him. "Oh yeah, I don't know your full name yet, Mr. Han. I mean, if we're going to be seeing each other often because of this, I think it's better if I know your name. After all, you know my name."

"Surname, Han, as you know. As for my name, it's a single word, Ye. As in night," he said with a smirk. "My mum likes a mysterious name."

There seemed to be a realization in Xiao Lei's eyes as she repeated his name, "Han Ye?"

"Yeah. You can call me Han Ye if you want." Han Ye said. He looked at her and gave her a quick smile before turning his attention back to the road.

As for Xiao Lei, she was a little startled when she heard his name earlier, and she narrowed her eyes as she took a good look at him. In her mind, a picture was forming. She recalled a thin, scrawny, bespectacled kid with bruises all over his arms.

"Coward Ye? Is that you?" thought Xiao Lei as she c.o.c.ked her head to the side slightly as she continued to stare at him.

….

"Fan Wushuang, what are you doing?"

A young bespectacled boy walked up to a young girl who was sucking on a lollipop while she drew something in a magazine from outside a bookstore. He was walking with his friend when they saw her standing there with a mischievous grin on her face as she occasionally peered at the shop owner who was sleeping at his counter.

The young boy and his friend both quickly pulled the girl named "Fan Wushuang" away from the bookstore.

The boy's friend, who was walking beside him earlier, took the magazine away from Fan Wushuang and put it back on the stand while she kept an eye on the bookstore owner.

They then ran away from the bookstore. Once they were safe within the compound of their school, the young boy turned to Fan Wushuang and scolded her.

"Fan Wushuang, are you an idiot? That guy is crazy! If he catches you, he won't give a damn of who your father is!"

The girl, Fan Wushuang, stuck her tongue out at him and scoffed, "Who asked him to look down on you the other day?! I don't like that he blamed you for stealing just because you didn't have money. He should be glad I only drew something natural in his magazines!"

She folded her arm and tilted her chin up as if she was proud of what she had done.

"What did you do now, Wushuang?" asked the boy's friend in a worried tone. Her long black hair that reached down her waist blew in the gentle breeze. She pushed a few stray strands back before tying her hair up in a ponytail.

The young boy blushed as he watched her action, but he merely looked away before anyone could notice. At this age, he was confused by what he was feeling toward the prettiest girl he knew.

Little Fan Wushuang[1] laughed as she held up her pen. "Just something that he has between his legs. Only bigger. I doubt his d*ck is bigger than a peanut. My mum said that bullies have small d*cks!"

Her friend, Wu Yuexue, coughed upon hearing the word. She shook her head in disapproval over her friend's use of the D-word. If her parents were here, and if Little Fan Wushuang came from a common family, she was sure that her parents would bar her from hanging out with her best friend.

"Seriously, Wushuang. I don't mind it. I'm used to that man's verbal abuse anyway," said the boy as he kicked a small stone away from them. Of course, he was lying. He was hurt when the man called him a "bloody thief" just because he had been going into the shop and bought nothing.

He had his eyes at a toy in the shop that he really wanted. However, his mother's wage would not allow expenses for a frilly item like a toy nor did he want to ask for it either. A phantom pain hit him in the left arm, and he rubbed it to make it go off.

No, he did not want his mother to worry too much about money. Even if they were poor as dirt, it was better than living with her ex-boyfriend.

Unable to understand the boy's dilemma, Little Fan Wushuang stuck her tongue out at him and poked his shoulder with one finger. "Coward Ye! Seriously, your name means night! I thought you're supposed to be cool as the night? But you're always running from things! I know! You're only worried that he'd call your mother or the school to report you. But I'm not! Let's see what he can do to me! I, Fan Wushuang, is not afraid of anyone!"

She then threw her pen up in the air before she walked into the school. Without looking back, she asked loudly, "Yue Xue, are you coming with me or staying with your pretty-boy boyfriend?"

Little Yue Xue looked over at Little Han Ye. She was blushing because of what Little Fan Wushuang said earlier, and she murmured an "I'm sorry" before she ran over to her friend.

Little Han Ye merely rolled his eyes as he walked over to pick up the pen that Little Fan Wushuang threw away. Once he picked it up, he walked into the school, keeping a few feet away from them.

"Wushuang, Han Ye is right. You shouldn't do it. I don't want you to get hurt," Little Yue Xue said as she poked her friend's cheek in a teasing manner.

Little Wushuang shrugged her friend's finger off. "Hmmph! Who dares to hurt me? Eh, I'm Fan Wushuang! I'll just tell my dad!"

Little Yue Xue gave up advising her. Her best friend was spoiled rotten by her father, and she grew up doing whatever she wanted because nobody dared to say "no" to her. It was a good thing that despite her brash and rude attitude, Little Wushuang's nature was good or who knew what she might turn into.

Little Yue Xue smiled and took her friend's hand. "Fine, fine! Young Lady of the Fan House! President Fan's little princess! Do whatever you want! Just be careful not to get caught!"

Little Han Ye, who was walking behind them, rolled his eyes when he saw them holding hands. "A little daredevil and a little angel. What a combination," he muttered under his breath.

As if she knew that he was talking bad about her, the girl turned back and pointed two fingers at her eyes before pointing the two fingers at him while mouthing, "I'm watching you, punk!"
