"Your cousin?" Han Ye looked at her curiously. He had never met her before, that was for sure. So how could she be Fan Wushuang's cousin?
Xiao Lei glanced at her and thought, "I definitely don't have any relatives with the surname Zhang... but she does look kind of familiar."
Angela Zhang nodded. "Yeah, President Fan's daughter, Fan Xiyue, is my older cousin. Our mothers are cousins."
Realization set in, and Han Ye smiled slightly as his slight confusion earlier. He then explained, "Oh, I'm not talking about her. I'm talking about the late President Fan and his family. See, Fan Wushuang and I used to study in the same primary school."
Han Ye noticed that Tian Le was staring at him with a blank expression, and so, he explained everything to them.
"Oh, you mean Fan Wushuang… Yeah, what happened to her and her parents were unfortunate," Angela Zhang nodded thoughtfully.
Xiao Lei kept her head down and continued to eat, seemingly as if she did not care about the story at all.
"F*ck... She's Zhang Xia!" Xiao Lei thought and she gently bumped her forehead against the table while the others looked on with curious expressions.
When Xiao Lei noticed that they were looking at her, she immediately grinned like an idiot and said, "I forgot to order spring roll..."
Lu Ziyan chuckled and said, "I'll order it for you."
While Lu Ziyan called for a waiter, Angela Zhang had to resist an urge to roll her eyes. She looked at Xiao Lei and thought, "What a country bumpkin..."
She then turned back to Han Ye and continued to talk to him, "Back to what I was saying earlier... Back then, I was still quite young, so I don't really remember much… All I remember was that my aunt's husband, the current President Fan, Fan Chuan, was really upset and he kept blaming himself for her disappearance…"
Hearing that, Xiao Lei could not help but mumble, "Upset? My a*s… He's probably rolling around in my money daily."
Han Ye thought he heard something, and he turned to Xiao Lei and ask, "Xiao Lei, did you say something?"
"No…" Xiao Lei mumbled before she stabbed her chopsticks down on a char siew bao and ate it inelegantly.
The rest glanced at each other, but they did not say anything. Instead, Lu Ziyan said, "After our talk last night, I did some research for cases from back then. There was another piece of huge news about the disappearance of the head of the Zheng Family."
"Zheng Family?" Xiao Lei asked, curious about what he was talking about. She knew a famous Zheng Family. Back when he was alive, her grandfather used to say that he had made a promise to his friend, to let their families unite using a marriage.
As both of them only had sons, they then said that they would let their grandchildren be husband and wife. On her one year old birthday, her grandfather announced that he had betrothed Fan Wushuang to his friend's first grandson.
Xiao Lei met Young Master Zheng Wei before, but she thought of him as stupid and boring, so she usually just ignored him.
"If I remember correctly, I saw on TV that he got caught having an affair a few years back," Xiao Lei thought as she continued to chew.
Lu Ziyan nodded before he answered Xiao Lei's question, "They were one of the top families in the jewelry world. The head of Zheng Family disappeared around a year after Fan Wushuang. When I looked it up online last night, I saw a piece of an article where it mentioned a speculation that someone was trying to get rid of the top families of every industry..."
Lu Ziyan thought for a moment before he asked Han Ye, "And if I'm not wrong, not long after that, there was a hit on President Du as well, right?"
He remembered this incident with DX as he used to research him. However, he could not find much about it.
"That's a different matter. I won't call it a hit," Han Ye said as he picked a siew mai and placed it on Angela's plate. With a smile, he said softly, "Eat more…"
Angela smiled. However, she frowned when Han Ye did the same for Xiao Lei.
Different from her, Xiao Lei did not think too much about the gesture.
Instead, she said, "Oh, I want to know more! What's this about President Du? Please tell…"
Despite her age, she currently looked like a little girl who was listening to a fairy tale.
Han Ye chuckled at her expression. He then got serious and said, "It's not a big secret or even a secret. However, President Du has never talk about it, and whatever I know, is based on the news."
He placed his chopsticks down and thought for a moment before he continued, "Apparently, when he was around 20 or 21 years old, he was accosted by a group of assassins when he was in London for a trip with his friends. From what I know, there was a bombing near the palace, and when everyone was in a panic and was running away, he got split from his friends."
"Then how did he get away?" Tian Le asked. His mouth had never stopped chewing until this point.
Han Ye shrugged. He was fine talking about it because it was all reported everything was public information. Otherwise, he would never divulge DX's information like that. "It was reported that he was saved by a group of masked men. I suspect that his father, the late President Du Jin, suppressed the news because despite the heir of one of the most powerful families in the country being targeted, it was only reported for one day."
Once he was done talking, Tian Le murmured, "I didn't know that Du XiAn has that background…"
Lu Ziyan reached over to knock him on the head but the boy managed to dodge it. Annoyed, Lu Ziyan said, "Stop calling him by his name. He's your Godmother's husband."
"He's not my husband. Why do I care?" Tian Le asked. He then continued to eat. Tian Le respected and loved Kai Xin. Even if he did not want to be adopted by her, it did not mean that he loved her any less.
It was still fine when he was younger, but now that he knew what a man and woman did, just thinking about DX made him angry. To him, it was as DX was defiling his precious Mama Zhen. Of course, he knew that it was just petty of him, but he did not like how everyone just accepted DX. He figured he had to be the one to give him some hard time so that he would not take his Mama Zhen for granted.
