Chapter 83 - Where are your parents?

Xiao Lei realized that she was being rude, and her face turned slightly red as she mumbled, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stare."

Tian Le sighed. "It's fine… I'm used to it."

Whether it was on purpose or not, Tian Le was used to people staring at his leg. He mostly wore long pants nowadays, except for when he was in his own house. Even at the dorm, the only time he would wear shorts would be at night, when he was locked in his room.

He ran a hand through his hair and said, "You seem like you have a question."

Xiao Lei nodded. With a small voice, she asked, "Is it caused by an accident?"

Tian Le shook his head. He looked at his half drank can of Coke for a few seconds before he looked at her face. With a smile, he said, "I was born with this slight deformity. And my parents threw me away because of it.."

Xiao Lei gasped, "I'm sorry...I shouldn't have asked."

"Nah," Tian Le said with a bright smile, "I don't mind."

He took a huge gulp of Coke before he continued, "Besides, I have got new family members now. I have my godmother and her family, my two foster brothers, and a sworn brother. My sworn brother got adopted about two to three years ago, but his new parents are close friends of my godmother's husband, so we get to meet up whenever he's here."

"They are not from here?" Xiao Lei asked while she finished her can of Coke.

"They are based here, but they spent more time anywhere else but here. My sworn brother, Caleb, and his new parents are in Thailand now. They went there to help build schools in a rural area there. His parents do a lot of charity work, and they would attend charity events all over the world."

"Ah, he got lucky…"

Tian Le agreed. Caleb, who grew up with him at Zi Han Orphanage, was adopted by a kind couple. Even though the little boy had resisted at first, but he slowly warmed up to the idea of being adopted by William Tan and Tiffany.

Now that Caleb had a mother who was deaf like him, he managed to learn faster as well. Tiffany knew how to talk to Caleb, and with William Tan's help, Caleb's speech had been improving leaps and bounds.

Even though there were a few hiccups, but Caleb could speak properly nowadays and his lip-reading skill had improved as well.

Tian Le looked at Xiao Lei. "Not only Caleb but so did I… I met people who care a lot about me, despite having no blood relation to me."

Xiao Lei smiled and nodded. She kept passing her empty can of Coke between her hands as she said, "I know what you meant. I basically grew up with my husband, and other than my parents and my son, he's the only one I can trust."

"Ah? Where are your parents?" Tian Le asked absentmindedly.

Xiao Lei hesitated for a second before she answered truthfully, "They passed away when I was 10."

There was brief moment of silence before Tian Le muttered, "I'm sorry…"

Xiao Lei smiled, but this time, her smile had a hint of sadness in it. "So am I…"

To cheer her up, Tian Le said, "Well, but you have your husband now…"

Xiao Lei sighed softly. "He kind of… disappeared two years ago."

Tian Le frowned, and he suddenly felt as if every question that he was about to ask was a mine that was about to explode. With an embarrassed expression, he admitted honestly. "Erm… I feel like I don't know how to get this conversation going…"

As she looked at his fl.u.s.tered face, Xiao Lei chuckled softly. "It's fine. I believe he'd be back one day."

Tian Le smiled before he finished his can of Coke. He did not know what else to say, and after what happened earlier, he preferred not to ask more about her past. Some things were private, and he did not want to offend her by asking too many questions.

After all, despite her sitting in his house now, they just met.

Feeling curious and wanting to change the topic of conversation, Xiao Lei suddenly asked, "Oh! That woman… Angela Zhang… Is she Han Ye's girlfriend?"

Tian Le smirked. "Probably not… yet. They just met yesterday."

Xiao Lei was surprised. "Wow! And he brought her back already? I didn't expect that to come from Han Ye."

Tian Le laughed. "No one did, but we are glad that he tried his best to move on."

Confused, she asked, "Move on?"

"Oh... You didn't know?"

"Know about what?"

"Brother Han Ye was married before..."

"Oh?" Xiao Lei was curious, and she asked, "Where's she?"

Xiao Lei originally had a curious and excited expression on her face, but when she saw the sad expression on Tian Le's face, her own expression changed as well. Now, she had a slight frown on her face as she waited for his answer.

Tian Le sighed and murmured, "His wife passed away a few years back..."

He felt sad because he saw Han Ye with his nightmares before. For him, who had never really experienced the loss of a loved one, Tian Le could only guess how much pain Han Ye was in when he had to pull the plug on his comatose wife.

He heard from Kai Xin that even though Han Ye did not show it, he was actually in a lot of pain. That was why, when Tian Le moved in with them, Kai Xin had asked him to look after Han Ye as well. Kai Xin felt that for Han Ye to make that decision, she was responsible as well.

If she had been more careful, Han Ye's comatose wife would not have been kidnapped, and no one would have been able to use his wife against him.

Tian Le sighed, and he thought about his adorable girlfriend. He hoped that they would be able to have a smooth sailing love journey instead of what Han Ye had to go through.

Meanwhile, Xiao Lei's hands had been shaking ever since she heard what Tian Le said. She hoped that she was wrong, so she quickly put on a fake smile as she asked, "She must be a beautiful person... What's her name?"

While she waited for Tian Le to answer, she begged to all the gods, "Please let Yuexue dumped his a*s! Please don't let it be Yuexue!"

Unfortunately, her prayers did not come true as Tian Le soon said, "Her name's Yuexue... Wu Yuexue..."

Clang~!

Xiao Lei was so shocked that her empty can of Coke fell to the ground.

"N-No..." she murmured as she gritted her teeth. She kept telling herself that she could not cry. Xiao Xiao Lei had no reason to cry over the death of Wu Yuexue.

"Are you alright, Xiao Lei?" Tian Le asked as he placed his hand on her back. He was a little worried when he saw her frowning so hard. "I'll call-"

Xiao Lei shook her head and smiled. "Don't have to call anyone. Stomach cramp... Can I please use your toilet?"

"Yeah, sure..."
