He chuckled. "Watch this."
An Xin watched as he flipped the cover of the wheelchair's left arm. Underneath the cover was a series of button and a retractable joystick. She watched as Lu Ziyan pulled the joystick up and switched on the electric part of his wheelchair.
Using the built-in joystick, he drove her up and down the sidewalk as they waited for the cab to arrive. This was a custom-made wheelchair with different speeds built into it. Usually, he would just move it around manually since it helped with his arm muscles.
But since the lady wanted it, he decided to show off what his wheelchair could do. Skillfully, he drove the wheelchair as if he were driving a car. When they were fewer pedestrians, he would speed up and when they were more, he would slow down as he moved between the pedestrians.
He knew that he was probably a nuisance, but since it made An Xin laughed, he did not care too much about it. Besides, he knew that people were more forgiving when they saw someone like him.
When he finally stopped, An Xin was still laughing as the gentle night wind hit her face. The sadness from earlier was gone while they played like little kids.
As he watched her, Lu Ziyan thought that the sound of her laughter had a nice ring to it.
When An Xin looked at him with her bright eyes, he shook his head. "Alright, that's enough. Someone's bound to call for the cops if we keep doing it."
She pouted but did not say anything.
Just as she was about to get up from him, a group of 3 drunk men approached them and one of them sneered, "Hey lady, are you in trouble? We can help you."
"Get lost." Lu Ziyan glared at them. Not only were they drunk, but they did not seem like good men either.
"Hey, cripple! Why don't you leave the lady to us?" said another man as he reached forward and grabbed An Xin's hand.
"Argh!" she cried out when he grabbed her wrist too hard.
Hearing her cried out in pain, Lu Ziyan got angry, and within a few seconds, he pulled out a little wooden stick that he hid underneath the seat of his wheelchair and smacked the man's wrist with it.
He had had that stick there ever since he opened AVENGE.
A bar owner with no defensive skills would only be bullied by the clients, and Lu Ziyan had enough of being bullied by others.
"Ouch!" the man yelled and released his grip on An Xin.
An Xin, who had been pulling her wrist away, fell back onto Lu Ziyan's lap.
"An Xin, hold on tightly," Lu Ziyan murmured as he kept his eyes on the three men. His left hand was on An Xin's waist to make sure that she would not fall off, and the other hand was holding the stick as he faced with the three drunken men.
"F*ck! Hit him!" One of the men yelled, and he picked up a chair from the restaurant earlier. As he rushed at Lu Ziyan with the chair, Lu Ziyan managed to dodge it and tripped the man, causing the man to run into his friend in a hilarious manner. The chair hit his friend, causing the other guy to fall down. Meanwhile, the man who picked up the chair fell on the ground as well.
An Xin giggled as if she were watching a comedy show, while Lu Ziyan murmured under his breath, "Classic drunken idiots..."
When An Xin heard what he said, she chuckled and nodded. She then pointed at the other man and said, "There's still one!"
When Lu Ziyan turned to glare at him, the man was walking toward him and when he was close, he pulled out a knife angrily.
"F*ck! A knife to a fistfight?!" Lu Ziyan cursed as the man suddenly rushed at him.
An Xin was in the way, so the man stabbed toward Lu Ziyan's right shoulder, which was open.
"Argh!" An Xin cried out.
Lu Ziyan managed to lean forward and dodged the knife, which went through the cotton back of his wheelchair. He then quickly adjusted the way he held his stick before stabbing it hard against the man's side.
Even though it was not sharp and there was no punctured wound, but given how hard Lu Ziyan stabbed him with the stick, the pain was still unbearably.
Grabbing his side, the man fell to the ground and rolled around as he cried.
Instead of minding them, Lu Ziyan asked An Xin in a gentle yet worried voice, "Are you alright?"
She was obviously shaken, but she still nodded. She then pulled the knife out from the chair and as she held it, she asked meekly, "Aren't you afraid?"
"I'm done being afraid..." Lu Ziyan said with a smile. He then moved his wheelchair back so that he could see all three men clearly. The man who tried to use the chair as a weapon had gotten back up and he tried to attack Lu Ziyan again. Thankfully, the sudden arrival of two policemen caused him to change his mind.
He quickly helped his friends up and ran away.
"Are you alright, sir?" the owner asked as she came out of the restaurant hurriedly. When she saw what was happening near her restaurant earlier, she immediately called for the policemen who were patrolling the area.
Once the policemen made sure that Lu Ziyan and An Xin were fine, they went back to their job.
The little shock from the fight earlier caused An Xin to sober up a little. She was now standing next to Lu Ziyan instead of sitting on his lap, and she asked in a curious voice, "Who taught you how to fight?"
"My friend, Guangying," Lu Ziyan replied honestly as he glanced up at her. His eyes landed on her moderate-sized chest for a few seconds before he glanced away. Inwardly, he was scolding himself, "Lu Ziyan! Stop being so thirsty!"
Thankfully, An Xin did not notice that. Instead, she asked, "Are you good at fighting then?"
He thought for a moment before he answered, "I can handle drunken people well enough, but I wouldn't put myself in the path of a sober person."
He then glanced at the car that suddenly stopped in front of them and said, "Our ride's here. Let's go."
...
Once they were in the hotel room, Lu Ziyan made sure that An Xin drank the hangover soup that he asked the kitchen to prepare. When he was sure that she was feeling better, he said, "I'm going to leave now."
An Xin nodded and she walked him to the door. "Thanks, Mr. Lu."
"Just call me Ziyan... I'll... I'll see you soon," Lu Ziyan said. He looked at her eyes, and there were things that he wanted to say to her, but in the end, he wheeled himself out of the room without saying anything else.
He figured that the faster he left the room, the better. His feelings aside, the fact that they were a man and a woman who appeared in a hotel room in the middle of the night might harm her reputation.
As he was about to wheel out of the lobby, the receptionist, Kavi, came running over with a jacket.
"Hi, Ms. Kavi, what's wrong?" Lu Ziyan asked.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Lu," Kavi bowed before she said, "but this is Mr. Han's jacket. He lent it to an old lady a few days ago, and she asked us to give it back to him. However, I don't know if Mr. Han would be dropping by in the next few days and I'm worried that he might need it."
Kavi and Kai Xin were friends, and on the occasion that Kai Xin and DX were at Hotel W to have their alone time, she would chat with Kavi. And so, Kavi knew that Lu Ziyan and Han Ye were living together at the moment.
Lu Ziyan nodded as he reached up for the jacket. "I'll give it to him."
"Thanks, Mr. Lu. I'll see you soon," she said politely before she bowed again.
