Chapter 183 - Are you feeling unwell anywhere?

"Little Monkey, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?" 

The little toddler shook her head. She then sighed and hunched over a little before pulling her bunny up and hugging it as if her life depended on it. 

Instead of being fl.u.s.tered, Xiao Lei merely smiled at the cute little toddler. She then picked Little Monkey up and placed her on her lap before asking softly, "That's a cute little bunny. What is its name?"

Little Monkey did not look at her. She just sighed and murmured, "Mr. Bunny." 

"Can I see Mr. Bunny?" Xiao Lei asked. 

This time, Little Monkey looked up at her before shaking her head. "No!" 

"Well... If you don't want to talk to me, then can you tell Mr. Bunny why you're so unhappy today? I think Mr. Bunny is a bit sad because he doesn't know why you're upset." 

Little Monkey looked at Mr. Bunny, and it was as if the bunny appeared sad to her. Her eyes then got watery and she nodded before shaking her head quickly again.

"I'm a naughty girl." 

"Why?" 

"I pushed Mummy," she whispered fearfully as she looked at Mr. Bunny. "She peed." 

"Pffft!" Xiao Lei had to clamp her mouth shut to stop herself from laughing out loud. However, her body still trembled from the silent laughter. 

Naturally, since she was sitting on Xiao Lei's lap, Little Monkey could feel it, and she looked up at her curiously, which caused Xiao Lei to blush slightly from her lack of control. 

"Erm..." Xiao Lei cleared her throat and said, "Your mummy didn't pee herself, Little Monkey. Her water broke."

When Little Monkey looked at her with a curious expression, Xiao Lei clarified, "She's giving birth to your baby brother." 

Little Monkey nodded with a dejected expression. "But Daddy is mad cause I push Mummy." 

With a kind smile, Xiao Lei patted her head as she reassured, "No, I'm sure he's not." 

"He is..." The little toddler sighed. "Daddy don't want me 'nymore." 

She started to cry quietly as she hugged the bunny to her face. 

"There, there," Xiao Lei said softly. She stood up and walked around with Little Monkey as she consoled her, "Your daddy's just nervous... He's scared cause your mummy is giving birth earlier than expected." 

Little Monkey looked up at her with a sad look, and her cheeks were red and hot from crying. When she heard that her daddy was scared, she quickly wiped her tears off with one of the bunny's paws and asked softly, "Daddy scared?"

"Yeah... Daddies get scared too. Why, when I gave birth my son, his daddy was scared too, and he cried!" Well, that was a white lie. Xiao Yunjie was scared, but the reason why he teared up was because of her death grip on his hand! 

But that was not the important part here.

Little Monkey frowned as she thought about Xiao Lei's words. "My daddy a big hero. He not scared." 

"But he is... That's why he didn't take you earlier... He's not angry with you," Xiao Lei said softly as she walked around with a light bounce to her steps. She then adjusted Little Monkey's position on her hip before adding, "See, he told me to bring you here so that you can play, and when you see him later, he would show you to your little brother. He didn't want you to see him earlier because he didn't want you to see him in his scared mode."

"No!" Little Monkey shook her head and said sadly, "Daddy don't want me anymore... Wah! Wah!" 

She started crying harder when she thought back to earlier. When she had reached out for her father, he had turned away from her. She was so shocked that she stopped crying until he left with her mother.

And when she started bawling her little eyes out again, her grandmothers told her that she could see her father at the hospital. However, when she arrived, she could not even see him.

In her mind, she thought that he did not even want to see her at all! She thought that he hated her now...

Even though Little Monkey looked so pitiful, Xiao Lei could not help but chuckle softly as she thought, "Ah, this one will be quite a drama queen one day..."

She then continued to walk around patiently as she whispered comforting words to the little toddler.

"Little Monkey, your daddy loves you very much. He can't see you earlier because he has to be with your mummy." 

"Whyyyy..." she asked while sniffling loudly.

"Because your mummy is in pain."

"Whyyyy..." she sobbed. 

"Because she's giving birth." Xiao Lei then sat down on a swing. As she kicked her feet lightly to move up and down, she smiled and said, "Giving birth is very, very painful..."

"Then why give bird?" 

"Birth," Xiao Lei corrected her. She then thought for a moment before replying with a smile, "It's cause babies are so cute..." 

She then tickled Little Monkey's stomach, causing the little toddler to giggle and shriek. After a while, she stopped and looked at Little Monkey with a gentle expression. "It's cause babies are so cute, that mummies are willing to go through the pain to give birth. And because you're so cute, your mummy can't help but make another baby like you."

Xiao Lei had been scared when she was first pregnant with Xiao Zhihao, and she could not lie. The pain was horrible. Even so, she was glad that she had him in her life now. 

When she looked at the toddler sitting on her lap, the little girl was sniffling and looking at her with a confused expression. But at least, she was no longer crying loudly.

"Daddy also pain?"

Xiao Lei nodded and explained, "Because your mummy is in so much pain, your daddy feels her pain too, and so, he wants to be with your mummy when she's giving birth, cause your mummy is scared. You'd want your daddy by your side when you're scared too, right?"

Little Monkey nodded quickly. But she then c.o.c.ked her head and looked at Xiao Lei adorably as she asked in disbelief, "My daddy is sad?" 

Xiao Lei nodded. "Your daddy is not sad. He's happy, but he's also nervous because giving birth is a very dangerous activity..." She smiled and tapped Little Monkey's tiny nose with a finger before saying, "But they will be fine. Dr. Phillip is a good doctor."

Little Monkey frowned. She did not really understand why they had to go through pain to bring her baby brother here. The cartoons said that birds would bring babies to the parents' door. Her mummy told her that the birds accidentally put her baby brother in her stomach instead of at the door. That was why her stomach was so big. 

But she never said anything about the pain. In fact, her mummy always smiled and patted her belly, as if she was happy with the baby being inside of her. 

"I guess you're still too young for this," Xiao Lei said gently. 

She then patted Little Monkey's head and said, "How about this? I promise you that your daddy will see you in a few hours and that he will be extremely happy, and he will kiss you a lot and hug you a lot."

Little Monkey shook her head. "No way..." 

"Pinky promise," Xiao Lei said as she lifted her left pinky finger. "Do you understand what pinky promise is?" 

Little Monkey nodded and glanced at Xiao Lei's pinky. Her big brother Lyle had explained it to her before. If he had pinky promised her that he would let her sleep in his and Jack's room, then he would let her do so. And if he had pinky promised her that he would take her out, then he would do so. Otherwise, he would turn into a pig. 

At first, Little Monkey was still a little confused. But one day, she pinky promised her big brother Jack that she would take a nap after one episode of Doraemon. However, at the end of the episode, she cried and threw a tantrum because she wanted to watch another one. Without saying anything, Jack just placed her in Old Mo's arms and left her.

He did not talk to her until her mummy made apologize.  

Since then, she knew that pinky promise was a very important thing.

Little Monkey sighed. She then glanced at her own hands, and slowly, she formed her right pinky into a hook form and hooked onto Xiao Lei's pink. "Pwomise?"

"I promise."
