After President Wei left the room, Xiao Lei had a small talk with the other three in the room and realized that they were sent here to protect her.
Her assistant, Yoon, said, "I'll make sure that no one with nefarious thoughts will get near you..."
"I've got a better idea," Xiao Lei said with a twinkle in her eyes. While the hairstylist redid her hair, Xiao Lei discussed her thoughts with them. She had thought of some preemptive actions that could be taken, should someone try to do something to her.
Knowing that some of her coworkers would be people from the Fan Entertainment she felt that it was only necessary for her to take some precautions in addition to what Han Ye had done for her.
Once they were done with their discussion, Xiao Lei dismissed everyone but her assistant. She did not need the other two to be around, so she told them to go out and mingle with the others, which both of them agreed to do since it would help them gather more info.
While she was memorizing her script, suddenly, she heard a knock on the door. After exchanging glances with her assistant, she called out, "Come in."
The door was pushed open and in walked a woman who was dressed in a fancy low-cut red dress, and another woman who looked like the first woman's assistant.
"I like this room better..." said the woman in the red dress. Her eyes roamed around the room and when it landed on Xiao Lei, she raised a brow before looking at Xiao Lei with contempt. "Where in the gutter did the director find her? Is she a staff?"
Xiao Lei looked down at her clothes. She had changed out of her original clothes earlier and was donned in a simple shirt and ripped jeans, which was what her character was described to be in in the first scene.
"That's Siew--" said Assitant Yoon, but Xiao Lei stopped her from telling her the whole thing.
Han Ye had already given her the profiles of all of her coworkers, and she had memorized their details. This woman was Vivian Siew, an A-list actress from Fan Entertainment and the second female lead. She had been posting on her social media about her dissatisfaction with being the second female lead, but in a more politically correct and roundabout way.
Han Ye had warned Xiao Lei about her before, and that she had to be careful around Vivian Siew. This woman liked to play games behind the scenes.
Vivian Siew's assistant, Ting, asked in a haughty manner, "Who are you?"
"She's the main female lead. Do you have anything that you need from us, Ms. Vivian?" Assistant Yoon asked with a polite smile.
"Main female lead?" Assistant Ting scoffed. "I have never seen her around before."
"This is my first attempt in filming."
"Ms. Xiao is the main female lead," Assistant Yoon said.
"A newcomer?" Assistant Ting scoffed. "I can't believe the director chose her over the others! I thought with all the secrecy, the main female lead would be a bigshot."
Vivian Siew looked at Xiao Lei in disdain as she said in a contempt manner, "This movie would be a flop. Argh, why did I agree to sign on to this?!"
"We should talk to the director, Ms. Vivian," Assistant Ting said as she looked at Vivian Siew. "This is not fair. A newcomer as the lead?"
"Well, feel free to talk to the director then," Xiao Lei said as she turned her eyes back to her script. "If there's nothing else, please leave. I need to rest in my comfortable room here, and I prefer to have a dust-free room."
"You!" Vivian Siew snapped as she glared at her.
"How dare you said that our Ms. Vivian brought dust here!" Assistant Ting snapped as she tried to protect the dignity of her boss.
"I didn't. You just did," Xiao Lei said without looking up at them, as if they were no one important.
"Please leave. Ms. Xiao Lei has to rest," Assistant Yoon said with the same polite smile as she gestured toward the door.
Vivian Siew glared at Xiao Lei with a murderous gaze before stomping out of the room, and her assistant followed closely behind her.
"This woman might be trouble in the future..." Xiao Lei thought as she glanced at the door briefly.
"She's just one of the actresses from the Fan Entertainment, but she's the most troublesome. That temper of hers is famous," Assistant Yoon remarked as she sat down on the other couch.
"She's an easy woman to handle. I'm more worried about people that would play games behind the back," Xiao Lei said with a sigh.
"Don't worry. There are more people here than you thought; people who are on your side, I mean," Assistant Yoon said.
Xiao Lei chuckled. "I'm not worried. Han Ye is very meticulous when it comes to things like this."
She then looked at Assistant Yoon, and after a moment of hesitation, she added, "Even so, I'll be careful."
Assistant Yoon nodded with a serious expression. "One can never be careful enough, especially in this industry."
After about an hour, the director's assistant came in and told them to prepare for filming. Xiao Lei went out of her room and headed toward the designated spot. When she got there, there were a lot of people around, and the director was talking to Vivian Siew. It appeared as if Vivian Siew was trying to negotiate something with the director, but she was being ignored.
One good thing that came from President Wei's decision to hire a bigshot director was that he was not easily influenced by others.
"Get ready! We will start in five!" the director shouted as he walked away from Vivian Siew.
Vivian Siew cursed under her breath, and she walked back to her seat. When she passed by Xiao Lei, she muttered under her breath, "B*tch..."
"Ms. Xiao?" Assistant Yoon looked at Xiao Lei with a worried expression. To her surprise, the woman was smirking, as if this was just a joke to her. When she received the briefing for the new mission, she thought that the woman she was tasked to protect would be a weak pregnant woman. She wasn't told much, only that this woman was pregnant with the child of an important person.
But she had since changed her mind.
Even though they just met, but from their discussions earlier, as well as what she saw earlier, she could tell that this was a woman who could hold her own in a fight. If so, Assistant Yoon figured that the main reason they were recruited would be to stop Xiao Lei from getting into a physical fight, in view of her condition.
