Chapter 193 - Aren't We All Friends?

"What did you tell that stupid friend of yours?", Xia Ruo Lan hissed angrily holding the cellphone against her ear.

"Oh! I didn't think that he'll explode so soon..", Lucifer's languid voice resounded through the speakers.

Lucifer was plonked on his shiny black executive chair in his office gazing through the documents lazily. His eyes had huge eye bags just in two days.

"Just what did you tell him? He's.. so cold to me" she shouted at him in exasperation. Her voice turning meeker as she spoke out her concerns to him.

"Don't worry.. I'll talk to him!", he tries to comfort her.

Xia Ruo Lan sounded weak and painful from the cold tyrant's cruelty, it kinda made Lucifer feel responsible for all the mess.

"Uh? Don't go on creating troubles for me..", she sighed thinking about how and what he would talk to him.

After all everything happening right now was because of his 'talk' with Ethan!

"Hey! Now.. that's totally an exaggeration", he protested against her accusations sitting up straight and closing the files.

"I already told you not to tell him anything..", she trailed off before sighing heavily.

"We just bumped into each other by accident!", she was still displeased by his actions.

"Alright.. I'm sorry!", he mumbled without any sincerity though.

"Are you trying to mock me? Who needs your sorry!" she spats in irritation aware of how earnestly he had apologized.

Lucifer turns around in his chair to face the floor to ceiling windows, his gray eyes gazing at the buildings outside.

"Where are you now?", he tries to distract her which fails miserably, she gets reminded of Ethan's frosty eyes.

"White Meadow..", she blurts out tapping her heels on the thick green patch of grass in the garden, vexed.

Lucifer's eyes went wide at the mention of White Meadow, he suddenly remembered the most awaited meeting between Ethan, Xia Ruo Lan and Sera.

His heart ached at the mention of Sera, his sweetheart, he's really missing her. If only he could run to see her right now. His cowardice was making him go crazy.

"With Sera?", the words leave his mouth even before he could think properly about it.

Lucifer slaps his mouth lightly to shut up before blurting something else that would make him regret.

The man's hurried question sparks suspicion in Xia Ruo Lan which she decides to put aside for now. This was not the right time for all these trivial things especially pertaining to Lucifer and his little lover.

"And Ethan!", she reminds him the main problem here, Ethan Lee.

Ethan Lee is the only reason why they were having this conversation after so many years.

"Oh yeah.. I know!", he chuckles awkwardly trying to mask the embarrassment rubbing his nose with his thumb.

"Look.. I don't know what they think about me.. about us", She raises her head and looks at the sky above, her voice soft then sighs.

"After all this time it's starting to bother me..", she looks down, misty eyes staring at her painted toes.

"Especially..", she wasn't able to voice out after opening up so much it only aggravated her old wounds making them bleed.

Lucifer could sense the hurt in her voice and cut her off.

"Hmm.. I know", as he was out of words to console her, blurting out whatever came to his mind he sighs.

Lucifer dreads having this conversation with her cause he is partially responsible.

"Hmm.. Bye", she's aware of his difficulties in having this talk.

Smiling to herself she bids farewell in order to avoid sounding needy and childish in front of him.

"Bye!", he chuckles trying to ease the tension before hanging up.

Lucifer's gray eyes flash with something, a little pain and self blame before they turn tender as he reminisces Sera's face.

Standing by the fountain Xia Ruo Lan could feel her eyes getting misty, she blinked rapidly afraid of tearing up.

Turning around Xia Ruo Lan could see Ethan coming out with Sera, his face was gentle as he gazed warmly at her face.

A smile crept up on Xia Ruo Lan's pink lips, it wasn't a blissful one but morose. She turned away to avoid Ethan's glaring eyes, completely cold and different from the ones he glanced at Sera.

Ethan was conversing, attempting to small talk with a dazed Sera. Her doe eyes desolate as flashbacks of the time she spent with Lucifer here at White Meadows came to her mind like a vortex.

*ring* *ring*

The cellphone in Ethan's hands rings loudly interrupting them.

Sera jerks lightly looking at the phone in his hand while Ethan smiles apologetically at her before answering the call.

He glances at the caller id, his black eyes shine like diamonds while his face blooms, a smirk that isn't really a smirk could be seen on his happy face.

It was Lucifer calling.

"Hello..", he answers lazily, Lucifer could feel the playful tone and shakes his head.

"Hey.. What's up man!", Lucifer tries to sound as casual as possible, his words make Ethan chuckle while Sera stops in her steps.

His voice, she could feel her heart tremble ever so lightly as ripples form in her heart overflowing with his love.

"I'm at a meeting..", he tells him apathetically, his voice devoid of emotion but a faint smile on his face.

"Oh! Did you, I mean.. Ugh! Did you talk to Xia Ruo Lan?", he is done with going around in circles, that's so not his style. Biting his lips, he blurts out his query.

"Heh!", a low chuckle could be heard, it was Ethan mocking him. Sera felt goosebumps listening to his derisive laughter and stopped following him.

"Look.. I don't know what's your deal with her but If you're pissed because I kicked you out the other day and taking it out on her.. Then don't!"

Lucifer's firm tone made Ethan's eyebrows furrow in discontent, he wasn't expecting his friend to support her and berate him instead. His chest tightened.

"Don't get me wrong.. Aren't we all friends? We've known each other since school years and now.. If you, a good friend, treats her so coldly how will she feel? You know this is just the second time you're meeting her after she's come back home from abroad and.."

Ethan feels suffocated listening to his overly sensitive pep-talk, he glances at Xia Ruo Lan at a distance.

"Okay! I'm sorry.. I'm in the wrong! I won't treat her like that again.. But, you should never kick me out of your house because of her!!", he interrupts severely affected by his words and bargains a deal.

"Fine! I won't kick you out.. if you promise to behave! Don't forget that I'm your elder..", a smug voice echoed in Ethan's ears, his face turned droopy at his conceited words.

"Hey! Where are you? I heard that you're working your arse off these two days!", he laughs remembering the sorry Assistant Le Xinglei's shaky words.

"Uh! Heh.. I'll see you soon! Bye..", Lucifer's voice turned weird as he chuckled oddly before hanging up in a hurry.

"This!", Ethan cursed under his breath looking at the dark phone screen.

He turns to look sideways only to see that Sera is nowhere to be seen. He turns around and finds her, he waves at her and she smiles walking towards him.

"What happened?", he looks at her face, she looks tired or maybe she's hungry? He couldn't understand what's wrong.

"Uh? No.. I'm fine, let's go Miss Xia is standing alone for so long", she looks ahead trying to hide her dim eyes.

Ethan follows her line of sight and his eyes land on Xia Ruo Lan who was now standing under a tree's shade. She looked pretty with a soft glow on her face.

"Yes, let's go..", he mumbled looking at her lone figure.
