Driving along the traffic filled roads, Adrian arrived at Lillian's cafe, after an incensed Su Yin left for work. His heart ached seeing her upset. She didn't even eat the breakfast that he'd prepared, putting all of his heart and efforts into it.
When Su Yin had suddenly asked Adrian to cook eggy noodles for her yesterday, the man's head exploded out of sheer shock.
Later, Adrian looked up a couple of videos on the internet, after Su Yin fell asleep, to learn some simple recipes to satisfy his woman's cravings. Like a perfect doting boyfriend!
Parking his blue Bentley at the usual spot, Adrian alighted from the car exuding a hard to ignore charm. His blue shirt was a tad lighter in contrast to his oceanic blue orbs that were as clear as crystals. His long legs soon brought him inside the bustling cafe.
Behind the pink hued desk, Amelia Qin's eyes instantly brightened up at the sight of Adrian. Her heart throbbing in anticipation, her pale cheeks turning a deep crimson while her magenta colored lips curled into a brilliant smile.
"Adrian.."
Rushing forward, Amelia Qin sweetly calls out to Adrian, however she's interrupted by the man himself. She snags at her full lips as her expression pales.
On the table across the surprised Adrian, Lillian and Damien are happily serving the customers with a smile on their faces. This scene makes his heart soar.
"Mom? Damien? What are you doing here?"
Unable to stop himself, Adrian asks with a hint of joy in his loud voice that even he's unaware of.
As far as Adrian was aware, his parents were supposed to be on a vacation. So, why are they here?
"We came back last night.. I didn't expect to see you here. What's up son?"
Studying the expression on Adrian where a number of question marks could be seen floating around him, Lillian laughed as she mumbled. She kept away the tray in her hand on the spare counter before asking in a concerned manner.
Like a dutiful daughter-in-law, Amelia Qin was seen walking towards them with a cup of freshly brewed tea for Adrian. Her smile never fading.
"Nothing really.. I was just passing by and suddenly thought of your sticky toffee cake.."
Shrugging his shoulders, Adrian tried to sound nonchalant while his ears turned pink. The subtle change didn't escape his mother's sharp gaze.
Stopping abruptly, Amelia Qin's heart jolted in her chest, intently studying the bashful expression on Adrian. The handsome man looked too cute for words.
"Toffee cake? And you?"
Raising her perfectly threaded eyebrows, Lillian quizzed. Her doubtful gaze further intensifying the blush on Adrian's usually cold front.
The mother-son duo's interaction enflamed Amelia Qin's curiosity.
"Ah~ Now I get it. It's for her, right?"
Clapping her slightly chubby hands, Lillian chuckled gleefully as she prodded Adrian.
"Uh-huh.. She's upset and I wanted to cheer her up. What's better than sweets, right?"
Rubbing his red ears and neck awkwardly, Adrian gave a nod before briefly expounding.
While Lillian was internally proud of Adrian for being a good and caring person despite dwelling in the darkness from young age, Amelia Qin was jarringly shocked by the sudden revelation.
Adrian's words shot through Amelia Qin's heart like an arrow smeared with poison. Her initially sweet smile cracked like a clay mask. Her fingers around went white due to the strength with which she was holding the tray. A lone tear slipped down Amelia Qin's left eye which was now red, it was heart-breaking.
Refusing to cry in front of the man she loved, Amelia Qin turned on her heel and left.
"Yup! My smart son.."
Standing on her tippy toes, Lillian kindly ruffled Adrian's hair, praising him with a peck on his cheek. She turned around to enter the kitchen.
"Right! I made some fresh strawberry icecream. Take that with you, I bet she'll love it.."
Abruptly halting in her tracks, Lillian gazed at Adrian with a sparkle in her encouraging eyes, telling him to conquer Su Yin's heart with her favorite icecream.
"Thanks mom. You're the best!"
Chortling merrily, Adrian raised his thumbs in the air with a big, wide smile evoking a peal of laughter.
"What's up Ad?"
As Adrian turned around, Damien appeared before him. His identical blue irises staring straight into Adrian's.
"Oh, hi Damien.. I'm great. What about you?"
Still a little awkward, Adrian wasn't used to address Damien Gold as 'Dad' and called the latter by his name.
Under the stiff smile, Damien Gold hid the hurt deep within his chest every time his only son refuses to address him as 'Dad'.
"Great! How's Lucifer. You guys need any help?"
Deliberately widening his gaze, Damien Gold tried to sound convincing and happy to Adrian. His tone took a slightly different turn at the mention of Lucifer.
"I'll call you later.. Don't let mom know about this. And yes, bring Dai Yu with you.."
Understanding Damien Gold's hint, Adrian nodded his head with a meaningful look on his flawless countenance.
From the corner of his gaze, Adrian caught sight of Lillian approaching and tactfully changed the topic.
"Did I intrude on anything important?"
Sensing the silence, Lillian pushed up her brows as she asked inquisitively. Lillian's doubtful gaze darting from the calm Adrian to smiling Damien Gold.
"Nah, just talking about your vacation.."
Shaking his head, Damien Gold vocalized extending his scarred hand to hold Lillian's, lovingly. She squeezed his palm softly with a glimmering sweet smile on her plump face.
With a faint light in his eyes, Adrian nodded his head as he watched his parents with his love filled gaze.
"Yes, I'll see you guys.. Bye mom, Damien. I'll visit again!"
Taking the pink colored bag from Lillian's free hand, Adrian kissed her cheek good-bye. The couple waved back at their son.
On the side, Amelia Qin quietly watched Adrian's receding back. Her full lips were broken with the brute force she'd used to snag at them. Even her immaculately made-up face was stained with tears and remnants of her makeup, and eyeliner. She looked wretched, and heartbroken.
