Chapter 1 - The second time in my life I tranfered to another world

Souya is an employee of a trading company in a local city. He is a thirty-seven-year-old man, single. He has been with the company for twelve years and is a section chief. His personnel evaluation within the company is quite well. He was serious at work, he performed his assigned tasks well, and although the company wanted to promote him to a higher position, he was not enthusiastic about his work and stubbornly refused to be promoted to a higher position, which would have increased his responsibilities.

His temperament was gentle, his manner calm, and he had a cool, intellectual air about him, but he was not good with people, and in a company with a high hierarchy of athletic types, he stood out from the crowd. However, he was not particularly bothered by being isolated, in fact, he preferred to be so.

“Chief Souya! Why don’t we have a drink today?”

“Yamada-kun. I’m going home. I’m driving to work, after all.”

“Oh, come on, they also offer a driving service.”

“That’s convenient, but I don’t want a stranger to drive my beloved car.”

“Anyway, let’s have a party sometime!”

“New Year’s party, welcome party, and year-end party. I think three parties a year is enough for me. Excuse me.”

Souya cleverly refused the invitation. He was a man who didn’t open his mouth much, but he was good at coming up with phrases to refuse. It was not that he had a communication disorder. In fact, due to his job, he was not bad at interacting with people, but he just wanted to spend time alone quietly. As a man like that, of course, he hated working overtime.

◇◇◇

There was a faint chill in the air, the smell of grass, and the chirping of insects. Souya woke up in the shade of a large tree.

For a moment, Souya looked puzzled at the unfamiliar scenery, but he took a deep breath, slowly got up, and examined his body for any abnormalities. There was no sign of injury anywhere, and he was wearing his favorite dark gray business suit.

(I declined Yamada-kun’s invitation and went back to my apartment. I left my bag at the door and collapsed on my bed in my room, still wearing my suit. And then …… I haven’t woken up, yet?)

Souya held his head lightly in his palm and tried to retrace his memory, but he couldn’t remember anything that happened after he fell into bed. I don’t think so, but is this the afterlife? Even the normally calm Souya couldn’t help but smile at the unexpected situation.

When I looked around, I saw a dark green meadow around the big tree. The fantastic scenery gave him a feeling of elegance, but it was clear that he was not in a situation to enjoy it right now. Souya, bewildered and unable to grasp the point, looked up at the sky and was astonished.

The moon was shining in the night sky along with the twinkling stars. After the crescent moon, the two elliptical moons are somewhat inflated.

(No way …… Two moons?)

Souya’s eyes were drawn to the twin moons. And suddenly, a dull pain shot through his head.

“…… Kuh.”

Souya frowned at the headache and the flickering afterimage in front of him, fell to one knee and held his forehead with his right hand.

Twin moons, car accidents, goddesses, swords, magic, white silver, heroes, saints, forest fairy Wood Elves, bishops, black knights, guilds, adventure, mountain range, plains, caves, forests, twilight, the golden demon king Gold Demon, parting—other world transfer.

Flashback images emerged intermittently. Souya opened his eyes wide. This meadow must have been a place he had visited twenty years ago.

(–Oh, I see. That’s right. I’m back ・・・・ I wonder if that’s what I should I say.)

Souya regained his long-forgotten memory and reminisced.

(When I was a high school student, I wandered into this world under the guidance of a goddess. I continued my journey, got to know my comrades, and then, what happened?)

My memory is still unclear. However, Souya had a hunch that there was a reason why he had been transferred to this world. Something strange might have happened in this world.

“It’s been 20 years since I’ve been in another world. –Seriously, it’s too sudden. I wish they would at least let me fill out a leave of absence form.”

After muttering to the sky, Souya stood up again, brushed the dust off his business suit, and walked slowly across the dimly lit meadow.
