Chapter 10 - In a thundering room

In the end, Souya and Mia were sleeping together in one bed, one futon, with their backs to each other.

Mia had changed into a simple and cute loungewear, but Souya didn’t have a change of clothes, so he had to take off his suit jacket and lie down in his shirt.

(I wish I had at least one nightgown, though …… Well, I can’t afford to be extravagant right now. Besides, it’s safer to wear this shirt.)

The shirt I was wearing inside seemed to have been reinforced by the goddess Eris. If you just close your eyes to the slight discomfort, this isn’t bad in itself.

“…… Uhm, p-please …… don’t think I’m a loose person, okay. I’ve never slept with another person before, and this is just too much of a bad coincidence.”

“I don’t think so. We don’t have enough room, so this is how it is. Let’s be rational.”

Even though we have our backs to each other, I can still feel the warmth of skin against my back. Honestly, it’s not a bad feeling, but I don’t know how Mia feels about it.

(-Well, it’s really too much of a coincidence. I hope you can forgive me for a few things.)

I’m a bit tired, that’s for sure. It’s partly due to the fact that I’ve exhausted my magic powers, but it’s also because I’m still getting used to this otherworldly environment. Come to think of it, it was the first time in a long time that I had walked all day long.

“It’s so narrow, isn’t it, Souya-san?”

“I’m a little sorry about that. If I hadn’t told you about the waffle shop, we would have been able to check-in before the heavy rain. And we could have gotten separate rooms for the two of us.”

“That’s because I forced you to go with me. Besides, this heavy rain was completely unexpected.”

Outside the window, the thunder continued to rumble along with the heavy rain. I wondered how long the rain would continue. In this world without satellites, it is difficult to predict the weather accurately.

“What are your plans for tomorrow, Souya-san?”

“I need to earn some money, so I’m going to the adventurer’s guild to say hello. If they can find me a job, that would be great.”

“I’m going to show up once too …… I don’t really want to go to the guild because some people I don’t want to see me. But as Master said to me earlier, traveling alone is dangerous. I underestimated the adventure a bit.”

Maybe she was still inexperienced as an adventurer. If that’s the case, Mia’s misfortune was that she had met an adventurer who was trying to seduce her at an early stage.

“Well, even if it was a careless action. You and I got to know each other through our choices, right and wrong. If this is one of the fates, we can’t say that it was a mistake.”

“…… Now that you mention it, I guess so. If I hadn’t acted recklessly, I wouldn’t have gotten to know Souya-san.”

“But it’s still a sophomoric argument of consequence. It’s a good idea to avoid dangerous solo activities after all …… Mia-kun, I think I’m going to sleep now.”

“Thank you very much for your time today. Good night, Souya-san.”

“Thank you too. You forcefully let me stay in the room that Mia-kun took, after all. So, good night.”

With our backs to each other, a silence for about an hour. The second hand of the wall clock and the thunderstorm outside the window were the only sounds that dominated.

“Souya-san …… are you awake?”

I heard Mia call out from behind my back.

“– What’s wrong?”

Souya, who was in a shallow sleep, but the voice woke him up, and he opened his eyes lightly and responded to Mia.

“…… Oh, I’m sorry. Did you fall asleep already?”

“It’s okay. But I’ll be back to sleep soon. I have to recover my magic power …… Are you having trouble sleeping, by any chance?”

“I’m not sure if it’s because of everything that’s happened, but I feel very clear. Uhm, I don’t think it’s because I’m weirdly conscious or anything.”

“Even if you can’t sleep, you should get some rest.”

“Oh, yes. That’s right …… I’m really sorry for waking you up.”

“If you can’t sleep for a while longer, just take my hand and wake me up.”

When he finished, Souya closed his eyes and fell asleep again.

About 20 minutes later, Souya felt a warm touch on his hand. It seemed that Mia was still unable to sleep.

“Oh. It seems like it’s no good. The more you think about sleeping, the more you can’t sleep. It happens all the time.”

“Yes, it’s really not working. I think I’ve forgotten how to sleep.”

“In this case, it’s probably the difference in the environment, in other words, me. I’d like to do something about it, but it’s not my nature to sing lullabies. However, there is a way. For me, it’s very simple.”

“…… Well, what’s the method?”

“The Deep Sleep Magic.”

Souya got up from the bed, took the black glasses on the desk and put it on his face.

“Once you have fallen asleep with this magic, nothing simple will wake you up. Unless it is an awakening spell called Early Bird, or a severe pain or shock. If that’s okay with you.”

“…… You’ll never wake up?”

“Shaking won’t wake you up. It works for about six hours.”

“……, for example. After I fall asleep. Even if Souya-san does something to me?”

“You won’t wake up. No matter what I do to you, you won’t wake up.”

Silence. No wonder. Souya narrowed his eyes and smiled.

I’m not going to do anything, of course. However, it was not a good suggestion. Even though I had saved her life, we had only just met.

“…… Please do …… so I don’t have to worry about not being able to sleep.”

Still, Mia seems to trust me.

It’s also scary that she trusts me so much, and it would have been better if she had refused so that I could confirm her soundness, but I can’t ignore the possibility that I am the cause of her insomnia.

“Then relax your body. When you don’t want to be affected, your resistance will kick in, and the spell may not work. “

Souya stretched out his arm and touched Mia’s cheek as she lay there relaxed.

“-Gentle God, who brings sleep. Give her a good night’s sleep. Sleep soundly, [Deep Sleep].”

From the hand that touched her cheek, a wave of pale magic flickered and dissipated. Mia looked dazed, then closed her eyelids and lost consciousness.

“It’s a good night, Mia-kun …… Now, it’s time for me to go to bed too. I’ve used too much magic power today. I can’t think of any other option right now but to go to sleep.”

As Mia fell asleep, Souya sighed heavily.

Fatigue from the use of magic, and sleepiness from physical exhaustion. I’ve been living a regular life for too long, and I’ve lost the ability to push myself. I don’t like to think about it, but it’s probably due to my age.

Souya took off his black glasses, lay down on the bed again with a tired expression, and slowly closed his eyelids.
