Chapter 31 - The man called Hero Randy
“My name is Souya. I don’t have my adventurer’s card with me due to circumstances. Please make my acquaintance.”
Souya respectfully greeted Randy, who called himself a hero.
“…… You seem to be a rookie of the blank-class …… What is it you want from me?”
Randy looked at Souya, who had suddenly come forward, with a curious expression on his face, and said in a way like he wasn’t interested in him at all.
“Actually, Mia-kun is my adventure partner. I’m still a blank-class, so she’s taking the role of leader.”
“…… Eh, w- …… why?”
Randy’s voice suddenly sounded out of tune. He had a beautiful voice, but it sounded a bit silly, and Souya almost blew up.
“I’m not sure why you’re asking why. It’s true.”
Souya managed to adjust his expression and replied with a poker face.
“…… Mia. How did you end up working with him? Is he someone you know?”
Randy asked Mia, who was standing next to Souya, in a muffled voice. He seemed to be curious about the relationship between Souya and Mia.
“Souya-san is a benefactor of mine. That’s why I’m helping him. The rest is as Souya-san said earlier. You’ll need an escort while you’re a blank-class, after all.”
Mia briefly told Randy about her relationship with Souya. If she were to explain how she was attacked by a thief, Randy’s character would probably make a big deal out of it, and that would be the right thing to do.
“I see …… Mia is kind. She is just as I thought she would be. But …… Souya-san. You are a …… magician or a thief from your appearance. Either way, you’re in support, right?”
“Correct. I am a magician.”
“Do you have any other companions besides you and Mia?”
“No.”
“…… That’s not good. You don’t have anyone who can stand in the vanguard and fight? That’s dangerous.”
Randy pointed out that it was plausible, but he probably didn’t like the idea of the two of them adventuring together.
“Randy-kun. Souya-san is strong enough to defeat a direwolf that went berserk under the full moon. As I recall, he said that he defeated it unharmed.”
Louise, the receptionist, casually followed up on Souya. When I looked at Louise, she was fluttering the blank-class application form as if she wanted to say something else. I guess she wants me to come back and reapply later.
“Yes. The direwolf’s regenerative ability was unexpectedly high, so I used my saber to decapitate it.”
“…… You defeated a Direwolf under the Full Moon with a saber? …… That’s ridiculous. It’s supposed to be a monstrosity, a monster which a blank-class can’t fight.”
“Randy-kun. It’s not always the case that a rookie is weak. For example, the strength of a master of a sword dojo is not a blank-class.”
Souya explained to Randy in a dumbfounded manner, giving him an example.
“…… Well, that’s true. That was shallow of me. Then, Souya-san must be an excellent magic swordsman, then. That is, if you are not a liar …… Mia. When Souya-san becomes Bronze and you’re free, I’ll call out to you again.”
Randy pulled back, smiling at Mia as he said he was losing, but there seemed to be a hint of frustration on his face.
(–I wonder what Randy-kun’s reaction would be if I tried to appeal to my friendship with Mia -kun in this situation?)
Souya imagined a nasty thing and let out a laugh, but he suppressed the urge to try it. In any case, Louise’s reaction when he made an appeal to her was more frightening.
“…… Everyone, let’s go on to the next adventure. Fortunately, we didn’t get worn out by the escort request at all. We have plenty of energy to fight.”
Randy suddenly called out to his companions. It seems that he had some kind of change of heart, whether it was a rivalry with Souya for having killed the direwolf unscathed, or whether he was angry with Mia for her relationship with him.
“…… Hey, Randy, we just finished our adventure! Let’s take a break.”
The red-haired sorceress, Rebecca, protested against Randy’s abruptness.
“…… I agree with Randy-dono. This adventure ended peacefully and without a battle. In other words, it’s not enough.”
The shaved-headed monk, Bud, agrees with Randy. He was a quiet man, but when he opened his mouth, his bass tone was heavy and truly intimidating.
“Huh? I can’t believe this …… Why do you both like to fight so much? …… What about you, Thomas?”
“I’m neutral …… If it’s two against one, I’ll have to go with Randy.”
The large man’s hunter, Thomas, whispered and shook his head. He was not too happy about it, but he had no choice.
“Rebecca. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to come …… I warned you before we left the village together, didn’t I? You’re not cut out to be an adventurer.”
Randy’s cold voice to Rebecca. Since he said village, that means that they are childhood friends, and Rebecca is forcing herself to follow Randy.
“I-I’m sorry …… Randy, I’m coming, so don’t leave me.”
When Rebecca apologized to Randy, she made a clinging tone. She looked as if she couldn’t get her head around him.
(Well, well. They’re so busy. If it’s my fault, I’m slightly sorry …… Randy-kun is a confident guy, and for better or worse, he’s the kind of guy who swings from center to center. I’m sure he’s got the skills, more or less.)
Souya looked back at what Randy had said and done so far, and felt that way. Of course, confidence is not a bad thing. But too much of it can be dangerous.
“It’s not like there are any convenient requests for you …… No offense. You guys should get some rest today.”
Louise was about to decline the request, perhaps out of concern for Randy, who was in a hurry, and Rebecca, who looked like she was about to cry.
–Just then, the guild’s entrance door opened with great force.
“Is this the Adventurer’s Guild? P-Please, please help us! The village …… The village has been attacked by goblins!”
A man who looked like a villager jumped in from the entrance of the adventurer’s guild, gasping for air.
“…… Fufuh …… Louise-san, I think this may be an urgent matter.. If it’s a request that suits us, we’d be happy to take it on.”
When Randy saw the villager-looking man, he smiled wryly.
