Chapter 81 - The Tale of the Six Heroes
The interior of the mountain lodge was lit up by lighting magic.
I found a leak in one of the corners of the room, but it didn’t seem serious, so I decided to store the rainwater by placing a water reservoir at the point where the drops fell.
“It’s a little after 19:00 …… so we’ll go to bed at 21:00. If you want to have dinner, please do so during that time …… Still, I’m concerned about the weather.”
Peryton was checking his pocket watch and worrying about the increasing rainfall. Souya was also concerned about the weather, but there was nothing he could do but leave it to the heavens.
“Well, unless there is an accident like a cliff collapse, we should be able to make it. Even if that happens, I think we can solve it with the help of my magic and Merylou-kun’s.”
Souya thought of the magic that could be used, assuming that the road was blocked by a cliff fall on the way.
A lot of power work by the rock golem. If it’s something simple, this should be enough to get us by.
The Material Transfer [Aport] to transfer an object to my hand. If it’s a large rock that the Rock Golem can’t handle, it’s probably a good idea to use it to move it.
And then there’s the Magic Bombardment [Penetrate], which uses magic stones as a medium to emit flashing light waves. If it hits it directly, it can wipe out any obstacle without a trace. Since Charlotte had just given me the magic stone, I wanted to use it as a last resort, but it would be an option in case of emergency. It is a magic that can be used as a trump card in battle, but since it takes time for it to activate, this is the way it should be used.
“…… I see. Souya-san, Merylou-san, I’m counting on you if anything should happen.”
As soon as he finished, he heard the sound of distant thunder, and Peryton frowned.
If the thunderclouds were approaching the lodge, the rain might get even stronger.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
We were free until bedtime, but there wasn’t much we could do in this small mountain lodge.
In this weather, even if you breathe a little air outside, your body will be bombarded with rainwater blown by the crosswind.
Merylou was still resting on Mia’s lap, entranced. Mia held a comb in her hand and carefully combed through her long green hair, which had been removed from its bun ribbon.
Aisha was sitting in a gymnastic position, eating her dinner. She hadn’t eaten as much as she had at lunch, but she was going to sleep now, so as long as she had a good breakfast tomorrow, she would be fine.
She was looking at Mia and Merylou, but she didn’t seem to be calling out to them, probably because she was tired.
Peryton had taken his lunch box out of his luggage and was having dinner, as was Aisha.
As was the case with lunch, the lunch box was larger than usual, suggesting that he was as big an eater as he looked.
After a quick meal, Souya took out the leather bag containing the books Aisha had given him from the dimension box.
“Aisha-kun. If you don’t mind me asking, may I see what kind of books you have in your possession?”
“…… Oh, go ahead. I don’t intend to read right now, so I’ll leave it with Souya-san. In return, you can read whatever you like.”
“Hmm …… I’ll do that then.”
""
When Souya got Aisha’s permission, he opened the leather bag he had been keeping for her.
In the bag are six books. All of them are high-class books with parchment and genuine leather covers.
“This is quite a magnificent thing …… Is it protected?”
“Yes. All of them are eternally protected with [Eternal Preservation]. It’s something I took out of my house, after all …… Yes. I can’t afford it on my salary.”
Aisha holds her round glasses and mutters to herself.
All of the books seemed to have protective magic of a higher level of sacred art. If you include that, you can guess that each book is worth no less than 100 gold coins. I could imagine that she was from a wealthy background.
The first book. The Scripture of the God of Knowledge Luster.
I had borrowed it from a former colleague of mine and had read through it, but my impression was that I would never have faith in the God of Knowledge Luster. Of course, I don’t mind increasing my knowledge, but I don’t want to imagine my days bound by it.
The second book. Grimoire.
A book that describes the types and techniques of magic. Souya doesn’t own it because he has memorized all the techniques of magic through his long years of practice. Many magicians carry it with them for review, but the basic idea is that the techniques should be drilled into the mind and body beforehand.
And since it was an incomplete book that omitted lost magic and forbidden spells, and Souya did not need it, he put it back in the bag immediately.
The third book. A monster illustrated book.
He didn’t need to look through this book in particular right now.
The fourth book. The Tale of the Six Heroes.
–The subtitle of the book is “The White Saint and the Golden Warrior”.
(…… The White Saint and the Golden Warrior? …… There’s no way.)
Souya pulled out a thick book with the title “The Tale of the Six Heroes” from the bag and opened it.
It’s the second page after the front cover.
<The main characters.>
Golden hero, Golden Ares.
Saint of the supreme god Luminous, White Fiine.
The dark knight, Vlad the Black.
Bishop of the God of Knowledge Luster, Ranak the Ashen.
Wood Elf Spirit Arts User, Rosalind of the Rose
""
Magician, Rei the Silver.
“…… This is…”
When Souya saw the names strung together as characters, he felt his heartbeat quicken.
“It’s a tale of the six heroes …… It’s especially famous among adventurers, and it’s even the subject of a poet’s song. Are you familiar with it, Souya-san?”
“Oh …… no.”
Puzzled by her reply to Aisha, Souya swept his eyes.
I don’t know the story as a book at all. However, I knew the names of these characters better than anyone else in this room.
“…… Oh, the Tale of the Six Heroes. I know what it is. Aisha, you have something interesting.”
When Merylou finally woke up with a dumb expression on her face, she looked curious as she get up from Mia’s lap. The rich silver hair was swaying and shining in the light of the lighting.
With the two pigtails hanging down in front of her, her hair looked just like Mia’s, except for a few features that made her look like a different color.
“The six heroes …… It’s about a legendary party twenty years ago. I know it too.”
Peryton’s voice. It seems that fame was transmitted to the peddlers as well, not just the adventurers.
“…… Oh, I remember. That was twenty years ago. I know it well …… Can I read it, Aisha-kun?”
“Please do. I’m glad you asked. I’m sure you’ll become a fan if you read it.”
Aisha nodded and muttered happily.
Souya sighed and gazed at the book, which was written as the Tale of the Six Heroes, with anxiety while holding his glasses with his fingers.
