Chapter 103 - The Black Shooter

The sky was turning black as the time of reckoning approached, and the four adventurers were preparing for a short rest after finishing off the bronze demon.

The four adventurers present were Souya and Seran, who held the title of Demon Slayer, Louise, the receptionist who used dual swords, and Priest Siren, the priestess of the supreme god Luminous. All of them are arguably the best warriors in Ilstadt.

“–Be the light that illuminates the darkness. [Lighting].”

Souya floated a ball of light about 20 meters up in the sky, which he created with the lighting magic. If the monster is lurking in the ruins of Lingen, the lighting magic will give away its whereabouts, but other than Souya, the others in this scene are the elite of the Platinum-class. It seemed that they would not fall behind in battle.

In addition to assisting with vision, this lighting is also a signal to Shamil, the departed Familiar. It seems that he has gone out of telepathic range, and now there is no response from Shamil. It might be a while before he notices this light and returns.

“Louise-san. Is there any other reinforcement from Ilstadt?”

Souya remembered the shooter who had appeared on the cliff, and asked Louise.

“You may know this already, there is another shooter named Phyllis who is Platinum-class. So all of them …… That’s all I could bring. It was an urgent matter, so the report did not call for adventurers of silver level or lower to come.”

There is no doubt that the report was too much for a silver class adventurer to handle. In the first place, it’s unlikely that any adventurer would come forward with the desire to go. If Louise was right, then there would be four people in total from Ilstadt to help.

All of them are platinum-class experts, but the female priestess, Siren, will have to spend at least tomorrow purifying Lingen. It seemed impossible to pursue the Red Horn, which had disappeared into the mountains to the south.

(No, hunting through the mountains is impossible with our current preparations. A demon with wings, no less. If the opponent has no hostile intent, it would be difficult to even catch him.)

If the Red Horn were to return to Lingen, we would do our best to intercept it. However, it seemed unlikely that the cunning demon would return to this place after accomplishing its goal of cannibalism.

“I’m sorry if I’ve rushed you by acting on my own.”

“Regardless of Souya-san’s actions, we were dispatched on an emergency basis. If I had delayed any longer, I don’t think we would have had enough adventurers to take care of this.”

The light in Louise’s eyes was not as bright as it usually was.

I often feel like I see the mask of a receptionist coming off of her. I can think of a time when the Windbreakers were destroyed.

In contrast to her usual cheerfulness, she has a very sensitive personality. I guess it’s in her roots. She may be grieving over the ruined state of Lingen and the future of Ilstadt.

“Louise. It’s no use being depressed. Now that it has ended like this.”

Siren muttered, scratching her habitual blonde hair.

“I’m not depressed.”

“…… You’re pretty meticulous, aren’t you? You should be more dry. And stop relying on alcohol.”

“Wha …… I am!”

Louise’s face turned red and she tried to argue, but Siren’s point must have been right. After a while, she nodded her head in resignation. Souya had also witnessed Louise’s bad drinking habits before. If it was caused by this kind of stress, it might not be a good sign.

“And this one is a passionate guy who thinks he’s cool …… Good grief.”

""

Siren continued to look at Seran and shrugged her shoulders. Seran was sitting on a rock, silently chomping on some preserved food. His blue-eyed eyes remained fixed, glaring at the corpse of the Bronze Demon. He was probably suppressing his anger.

In the uncomfortable atmosphere, Souya began to prepare the meal. No matter what the situation is, nourishment is a necessity.

◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇

“…… Phyllis, you’re late. It’s all taken care of.”

Shortly thereafter, Louise turned around to see a dark-haired woman silently appearing from behind the darkness. There was no sound of footsteps, which was unnatural, if not metaphorical. Souya felt that rather than being a master of stealthy footwork, she was using the spirit art of silent walking.

“…… Uhm, I’m not sure if it’s right to leave me behind, though …… You know that I am a pure shooter, right? I was really scared.”

The reason why she was left behind was probably because I was in a desperate situation, so I felt a little sorry. But her voice, contrary to her angry words, was plain and emotionless.

Together with her earlier words, she seemed to be the female shooter who had appeared on the cliff. She had long, shiny black hair, with bangs that were brushed straight across her forehead. Her eyes are also dark, and she wears light clothing with black as a base color, and in contrast to Siren, she has a slender figure. I got the impression that she would look good in a kimono.

There was one characteristic that caught my eye. Her ears were slightly pointed. This was a characteristic of a half-elf, the child of a human and a wood elf.

“You’re not that smart, are you? If you’re attacked, why don’t you just use invisibility to survive? “

Siren glared at Phyllis while biting the dried meat. Judging from the lines, as I thought, she was able to use some spiritual skills.

“You’re so mean.”

“You don’t have any feelings at all, and you’re pretending to be scared.”

“Siren, that’s not true …… I’m sad. I’m sad that I won’t be able to enjoy Lingen’s red wine anymore.”

Phyllis, a dark-haired woman, looked around and muttered in an indifferent, slightly downcast way. She has a flat voice with no warmth or coldness, and no intonation, as if she were reading a book.

Whether it was the expression of anger earlier or the expression of pity just now, the overall impression was that of a lack of emotion. However, this lack of wavering might be the proof of her background as a shooter who uses precision shooting as her weapon. Souya felt that she had an atmosphere that was unlike any other.

“Thank you for earlier. It was a brilliant shot. I am called Souya.”

Souya stood up slowly and approached Phyllis to thank her for her support.

At the same time, he remembered the three accurate shots that had been fired simultaneously from the cliff, and a sense of admiration and a slight sense of fear came back to his mind.

“No. I don’t need to be thanked. My name is Phyllis. So you’re Souya-san. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“Rumors? I hope it’s not a bad rumor.”

“Don’t worry. 80% of them are good rumors.”

Phyllis narrowed her eyes and smiled tautly. I couldn’t help but be curious about the remaining 20%, but I felt it was better not to ask about it here, so I decided to forget about it for now.

“…… Master, are you okay? …… This one is fine, and the girl is safe and sound.”

Just then, a telepathic message came in from Shamil. It seems that they are approaching the range. This will bring everyone together soon. I’m sure we will need to discuss our future plans.
