Chapter 201: A Scale Of The Basilisk!?

He still didn't understand why they would construct such grandiose walls to keep out mere human-sized beings.

There must be something going on behind the scenes, something that he probably wouldn't figure out until he had climbed his way to the peak of the Adventurer ranks for this city.

.....

"Halt!" A loud, gruff voice boomed out.

A few guards in blue armor approached the group in a split second as their imposing gazes stared them down.

"Identity Token!" The lead guard commanded with a stringent tone.

"Sure." Azmond responded in a nonchalant way before he threw a bronze token in the direction of the guard.

"This Adventurer's Token should work, right?" He asked just to make sure.

It was a lot more convenient to take out the Adventurer's Token than to take out his Temporary Identity Token.

He heard from the original guard captain he met when he first came here that it would take a little time to verify his identity with a mere temporary identity token.

"..." The guard captain scrutinized the bronze token with a menacing glare before he passed it back to Azmond with a much lighter expression.

*Toss*

"You should've just said you were an Adventurer to begin with, and we would've let you in right away, haha!" He chuckled a little while scratching his neck awkwardly.

"..." Azmond couldn't believe the attitude changes of these guards.

'The last sets of guards were this way as well... Is being bipolar one of the prerequisites to sign up as a guard of the City of RiverBloom or something?' He thought to himself with a contemplative expression.

"You see, we have been having a little trouble with a Void Refining Realm Basilisk in the area.

It has been razing entire villages to the ground and has even made attempts at breaching our walls a couple times," he began with a vexed countenance as he recalled the 3000-meter-long basilisk that attacked their city gates not even 10 hours ago.

He really followed up such an immense release of energy with the excuse of 'just a bad habit'...

"..." "..." "..."

The guards were more than a little baffled by the shamelessness of this Adventurer.

"Well, thanks, you guys. I really appreciate the information," he began to speak as his figure faded away, along with Boundless, Crystalline, and Emu.

"See ya."

Those were the last words they heard from the man who put them on their knees before dipping after he was finished.

"... This must be what it's like to be a woman" The head guard lamented before a sigh escaped his lips.

He, along with all the other guards, suddenly felt like they should start treating their wives better

"Yah, did you see that Basilisk transform in the middle of the city?!? It took nearly half a day for the top cultivators of our city to reverse the destruction that was caused by it wreaking havoc in the Slum District!" A scrawny Adventurer exclaimed.

Another, far bulkier Adventurer heard the rantings of that man and decided to add in his piece as well.

"I can't believe it myself! I was there when that monster transformed into its original size before it unleashed fiery hell upon the slums!! It destroyed a good half of the slums before ultimately getting subdued by the Branch Master and the City Lord!"

"You think just hearing about such an event is special?!? I helped take off a scale of that beast; look here!!"

Thud!

A well-built man interrupted the two men as he threw a large 2-meter scale onto the wooden table they were sitting at.

"You actually managed to slice off a scale of that behemoth, Adolf??" The scrawny man questioned with an unbelieving look on his face.

"Why, of course I did-" He started to brag before a sudden noise attracted everyone's attention.

Bang!
