"Why?" Aion asked.
That wasn't something Aion was expecting to hear, but he could tell that there was a problem in keeping the relics in the same place and under the command of a single person.
"Do you know why people awaken to certain abilities?" Clarine asked. "While their actions and experiences also affect the mutation, the environment that they were in also affects that. The place where most people awaken their abilities are places that, in the past, had been taken over by some troublesome guys. Their mana overflowed and began to change the mana of the environment. So, you can say that their mana has been corrupted by the enemies that we defeated. Thanks to that, they will hate you, who has our legacy in the shape of the relics."
"Excuse me, ma'am," Sauros said. "Since that is the case, does that mean that he shouldn't stay in a single place without risking causing wars?"
"I am not to talk to you since you follow that moron's teachings," Clanire said.
"Answer his question, shrimp," Aion said.
"What did you call me?" Clanire asked and then began to hit Aion's stomach with her feeble strength. "I don't know why, but I can tell that you are making fun of my height."
"Just answer the question," Aion said after he rolled his eyes.
"Very well… that is true, since you are famous, and if people know where you are, they will feel eager to attack you on an instinctual level," Clanire said after a long sigh. "That is another burden that the keeper of the relics has to bear. It seems that you have been warned that people from the future might also target you, so you will have to keep a low profile and not reveal where you are from now on."
"Are you serious… I have land to manage, you know," Aion said.
"Even those who haven't awakened certain abilities will feel eager to attack you once they know that you have them. Such is the influence of the temptation that such power has," Clanire added while ignoring Aion's complaints.
The king probably had some idea of the true goal of the mission, so Aion and the others had to lie and say that they hid the relics somewhere even safer without giving details… that was really troublesome since, without proof, some issues would merge between them and Aion didn't have what it was necessary to create a place for his mother yet… and starting a war would be pretty troublesome since a lot of people will hear where he is…
"It seems that I have a lot of work ahead of me…" Aion said and then sighed. "What else do I need to know?"
"If you are planning to use the relics, I won't stop you, but some requirements need to be met," Clanire said. "For example, you need to find the right place with a good concentration of mana where something happened in the past. Those places will create the links between the eras. If you use them, you can probably decrease the influence of the corrupted mana on the people of a certain area. However, if you try to change the past, you might end up returning to a present that you don't recognize…"
The dangers of messing with time are the same everywhere… changing the future was fine, to some extent, but changing the past might cause some problems to his current present. Regardless, that wasn't something that Aion had to consider now.
"Ma'am, may I ask what is your relationship with lord Malon?" Seris asked.
"Who the heck is lord Malon? Stupid Malon is a title good enough for him," Clanire replied and then let out a long sigh. "I guess you can say that we are old acquaintances. Back in the day, people rarely awakened their abilities. Still, I awakened mine when I was just ten, and since my power was useful, some people captured me. The same happened to him and others, and we escaped together and formed a group to fight those who were trying to take over the world. That is all."
"I see. Thank you very much for your explanation," Seris said.
"So, you can be this polite, huh," Aion said.
"While we were all around the same age, he was annoying like an old woman who doesn't ever stop complaining," Clanire added. "He would go out of his way just to spend several hours talking about how he should eat less meat and more veggies. He looked like a crazy woman when he gained some extra weight. Who cares about that when you can eat meat every day? Also…"
Seris regretted asking her question… Clanire spent half an hour complaining about Malon… Aion wondered why he had to listen to the numerous complaints that she had during their journey…
"Anyway, is there anything else to say?" Clanire asked. "Ah, yes. There are some guys who ran away from using time magic once we learn the secret of their power. They didn't show up until now, but they might since they used time magic before we sealed its direct use."
Aion facepalmed… that had to be a joke. Enemies from the past still could appear because they used time magic to escape… since they didn't return to the past, Aion wanted to assume that they died, but in any case, traveling through the flow of time sure was annoying to understand.
"What else should we be aware of?" Aion asked.
"If you remain too passive about the enemies, they still might change the present by messing with the past," Clanire said. "Since you have the relic, you are no longer a part of the usual timelines, so you might wake up and learn one day that the Zaera kingdom was destroyed and that the Mirellis kingdom still exists. Until the relics maintain their power, you should use them well…"
At that point in time, Aion had already given up on understanding the timelines… It was useless, and he had to look for specific places and then defeat the enemies one after the other.
