"To avoid future problems, you should lay low for a few years. People will probably realize your true intentions if they don't hear anything from you," Vangel said.
That was easier said than done since Aion had the relics, and that would make him bound to feel the hatred of a lot of people. Still, he had other things to deal with, so he was fine with that and just nodded.
"I don't have any reason to make any big moves unless people force me to," Aions shrugged.
Although he had a few plans, Aion would have to put them aside due to the circumstances. It couldn't be helped since he had to deal with the issues that Arlana brought up.
"His Majesty gave you the permission to investigate the fallen capital for as long as you want," Lexus said. "However, we need constant updates about what you learned. Also, did you hear anything from the spirits of your ancestors?"
"I didn't let anyone talk since I was busy working and needed to focus," Aion replied and then changed his class. "Let's see what they have to say."
"Cursed king! Die, cursed king!"
"Damn you, Lexus Kresnik! My sons were killed by the army you led. I will never forgive you!"
"Kill them, kill them all!"
"... All that I can say is that most people aren't praising you all, and their words aren't suited for the ears," Aion said after a brief moment of silence.
"I see…." Lexus said while showing a pale expression imagining what Aion was hearing.
"I know that the people that are close to my mother can listen to me," Aion suddenly said. "If you don't want to say anything to me for whatever reason, that is fine. However, you need to understand that I don't have any respect for you whatsoever since you also made my mother suffer a lot. So, I will give you all this one chance to cooperate."
Aion didn't know if those souls could see his thoughts and memories, but they immediately shut up since they could tell that he was being serious. It worked like a charm…
"I am Arc Milleris, your grandfather," A voice suddenly echoed in Aion's mind. "I won't ask for forgiveness for staying silent until now since, despite having our blood, you are working for this kingdom that was our downfall."
"I believe that your endless greed and entitlement was the start of your downfall," Aion said while frowning. "I guess not all people repent after dying. Anyway, I am thankful for your stepping out and showing yourself, gramps. What can you tell me about what I need to know."
"I don't know much since you keep most of your knowledge hidden," Arc said. "What I can say is that your power has two natures that oppose each other. As for the other things you know about us and ghost creatures are probably correct. Don't call me again to speak in front of my enemies."
Arc was quite troublesome… in any case, he probably didn't have any reason to lead Aion to a trap since he was his descendant, and Artemis wasn't going to have any more children. Their lineage was on Aion's shoulders. Regardless, maybe what Arlana said and did were the best options considering that she didn't want to cause problems for Aion and alter the future too much.
"How many of you were recovered, and how many of you ceased existing?" Aion asked.
"Listen to me when I say something… all of the souls were freed, and the spell that controlled us was set to keep our magic levels at a certain point without causing stress to our existence," Arc replied after a long sigh. "No soul was destroyed or corrupted, and all of them that were killed during the war were recovered and are inside you now."
While Aion didn't have much of a connection to those people or cared about them since they were killed before he was born, Arlana still tried to preserve them for him… his suspicions only grew further thanks to it.
Now then, Aion couldn't say everything like he was planning to check the past and the future. He couldn't reveal that he had the relics… informing even his father and Vangel that people from other periods might cause problems and could also lead to more problems than solve them.
"... It looks like the enemies wanted to use the souls of the Millerians as a source of energy to grow in power slowly," Aion said while looking at his father and Vangel. "I don't know who gave them the knowledge to do that, nor do gramps know that. I will investigate it further."
"It makes sense that such a country wouldn't suddenly learn how to do that," Lexus rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "We will see what we can do in the end and learn who might have this kind of knowledge."
"Right… you may leave now, Aion," Vangel said after a few moments of silence.
Aion turned around and then left the castle. He had already talked with his father a few times, so there was no need to do that again in a while… Aion probably won't have to investigate the fallen capital that much either. Bringing his mother didn't seem a good idea after thinking about it with his head clear.
In any case, Aion began to fly home. It had been a while since he saw Artemisia, and he was already waiting for a good earful since instead of going home as soon as he returned, he left to an enemy country to slay thousands… even if he did that to save his sisters and get rid of some pieces of shit.
It was already night when Aion returned to his home, and the city looked the same as usual. In fact, it looked a bit bigger… the camps around the place had turned into proper parts of the city with the streets and everything. Still, Aion forgot about that and entered his home only to see his mother sighing while eating.
