“How do you know… I’m sorry.”
“Let’s go, Your Grace. I’ll finish it as soon as possible. He’s waiting for you.”
Daniel reached out and guided her in the direction she wanted to go, covering her back so that she would not be touched.
Dana bowed her head and walked down the path he led.
“Leon… He’s waiting.”
Leon didn’t give up on her. She vaguely believed it, but she was nervous on the one hand. So she was relieved and a little scared. The more she thought about how he was waiting for her now, the more she felt a mix of emotions.
Will he be really angry?
She didn’t mean to run away, but what she did afterward was reckless.
The low-ranking official, who had been huffing until just now, quickly became quiet and only followed them with signs of anxiety.
He opened the door to the place of the presiding judge. It was very different from where the nobles were officially tried.
A chair and a table in a small room. And there was a man who appeared to be a judge sitting.
And next to them were two people who would run errands, a security guard who would confess the sinner’s sins, and a soldier who was deployed in case the sinner ran away.
When an unexpected person came in together, the judge winked at the official as if he were asking who it was. Then Daniel replied instead in a hard tone.
“I came from the Grand Duchy of Tertius. We will speak later about the crime of bringing a precious person to such a disturbing place, and let’s proceed with the trial quickly.”
The judge did not understand Daniel immediately. Daniel’s shameless attitude seemed rather unpleasant.
“What? What are you talking about? Where are you from?”
“Hurry up and proceed.”
Daniel, urging the judge, made the judge somewhat nervous. The judge jutted at the security guard with an annoyed face.
“Go ahead”.
“This woman has been arrested today for hitting Count Rian Felice on the head and seriously injuring him. Currently, the Count is in a very critical condition…”
“Wait, I didn’t hit that person…!”
She hurriedly intervened in content that was very different from reality. However, Daniel quietly raised his hand and signaled that it was okay.
Dana couldn’t hide her embarrassed eyes, but for now, she stayed still as Daniel signaled.
“He wants a heavy punishment for the one who hurt him.”
It was a hasty statement listing only the facts of damage, without information on the reason for the incident or the identity of the perpetrator. As expected, the judge opened his mouth while listening with a soft face.
“You’re so evil. How dare you seriously hurt a nobleman as a commoner? There’s no sign of self-reflection. I have no choice but to deal with it according to the law.”
The judge, who had been speaking thus far, shook his head and shut his mouth for a moment. He pretended to be worried and tapped his finger on the desk, but his eyes were already on other thoughts.
It was about what Rian Felice asked for and who that cheeky guy was. As soon as he got out of here, he was going to curse at the manager who let him in.
“Okay, then let’s make a judgment. Only nobles can appeal, so don’t even dream.”
As the judge said, the commoner received one trial, mainly a summary trial.
The appeal was the right of the nobility. Regardless of the severity of the crime, the nobleman could be tried up to the second trial, and both the first and second trials were formal trials consisting of three judges.
Even if this side was a commoner, if the aristocratic side appealed, the second trial was held, but no aristocrat was doing so.
The judge was about to open his mouth again, but someone hurriedly opened the door and came in.
“He, he, he’s coming now, so hurry up…!”
He was the head of the security forces. It was completely different from the usual condescending appearance of being here after receiving his own status. He was scared of something and even stuttered.
“Leader, please wait a moment. They’ll be done in no time. Hmm, anyway, the crime is serious and has no choice but to rule it strictly, so they will pay for it with their life.”
“No, you…!”
The head of the security forces was even more astonished and clenched his mouth. When he heard that he would die, he ran out and saw a judge and Daniel. Dana was already expecting it, but Daniel thought she would be surprised and tried to calm her down.
“I, Your Grace. Don’t worry about it. Nothing’s going on.”
As the leader came in, the half-open door was tilted. A voice stained with repressed anger flew into the room with sharp silence.
“I said I wouldn’t wait long, Daniel.”
“Oh, your Grace…”
Daniel calmed Dana down, approached him, and sighed deeply.
“Your Grace, I told you that if you wait a little bit, I’ll take care of it and take her home… You couldn’t stand that moment.”
“I’ve been waiting long enough. There was no reason to wait in the first place.”
Dana was hard like a stone statue, unable to turn around, and just listening to his voice. It was not even determined whether her beating heart was fear or excitement.
He shrank even more at the resignation approaching behind him.
“Let’s go.”
The grip on Dana’s wrist was softer than she expected. Dana followed along as he led.
The judge jumped up and burst into anger.
“What are you doing? Are you taking a sinner away during a trial?”
“Oh, my. Please be quiet, Your Honor.”
“No, Your Grace. What the hell…?”
Daniel sighed loudly as they stormed out, and returned to his original office work.
He searched through the briefcase he was holding, took out a piece of paper, and put it on the table.
“It’s the petition of appeal.”
“Don’t you know that ordinary people can’t appeal?”
Then Daniel stuck out another document without replying.
“This is going to work.”
Daniel left the room without further explanation after speaking in a slightly irritating tone.
