Chapter 236: Facing Katherine [1]
****
Arriving before his apartment home, Amon gazed at it silently.
It was close to morning now, with no one roaming the streets.
The fading moonlight parted through the gaps of the wispy white clouds, embracing the land below with its light.
Usually, even though it would be this late into the night, most people would still be roaming in the streets and such.
However, before the event in the morning, most of the people were observing the day in silence, as a form of gift and remembrance to the people.

Amon stood alone on the elevated metal corridor, the cold seeping through his clothes but he remained unaffected.
He let out a sharp exhale as he finally arrived before his door, halting his steps.
He was finally home, after 4 days of his disappearance.
For a moment, his gaze drifted to his right, where the apartment of Elizabeth and Alice was situated right next to them.
Since a vacation had been given, Amon was sure that they were probably back at their manor, leaving the apartment empty.
The faint sounds of grasshoppers rubbing their legs could be heard in the silent breeze, an invitation to their prey into their nest.
Contemplating silent over his thoughts for a second, Amon pushed them back with another exhale.
It was now or never. He couldn't just stand here and avoid her inside for a century.
The only reason Amon didn't want to face Katherine was because of her condition.
Seeing Amelia had put him out of his trance, reminding him that the incident had affected others as well.
One of them was Katherine, who was the first to come to his mind as she would have not suffered from Arthur's disappearance.
But just like Amelia, someone close to her had also disappeared without any news or whereabouts.
He focused on the doorknob in front of him.
Taking in another deep breath, Amon moved forward, grabbing the doorknob.
Twist. Creak...
Twisting the doorknob, he slowly opened the door, finding himself in front of a shroud of darkness.
The lights had been turned off and the blinds had been pulled down so naturally, there was no other light source in the apartment.
Amon had expected it to be like that. No one in their sane mind would still be awake at this time of night.
Closing the door lightly behind him to mitigate any noise that could wake up Katherine or Lily, he took off his shoes.
Then, he stored his cloak, mask and cane inside his storage, revealing back his dirty
appearance.
His hair and clothes were still covered in dried blood but fortunately, his face was perfectly
clean.
He was immensely grateful to Amelia for not only taking care of him but for washing his face. Lightly walking on the wooden floor to avoid any creaks, Amon arrived in the living room. And his eyes widened as his eyes finally landed on the two figures in front of him, sprawled out on the sofa.
The first concerning thought that immediately crossed his mind was why weren't they in bed?
But the painful reason was obvious to him. A sharp piercing pain shot through his heart as he realized just how worse it had been for them.
Arriving in front of the sofa, he saw Lily's peaceful figure sleeping on the sofa, covered in
blankets.
But the tired expression and puffy eyes on her face dealt a sharp blow to Amon, making him realize just how much the poor child had cried after him.
Her small hands tightly clung to her blanket as if she was afraid of something.
But then, Amon's eyes moved to the figure beside her, his gaze landing on her face.
And that was the final nail in the coffin for him as he felt his chest constrict with pain, his lungs being knocked out of breath momentarily.
