Evan strode into the room, his presence commanding the room instantly. Dressed in a tailored black suit, his cold demeanor radiated authority as his piercing gaze locked onto Amit, who instinctively shrank back. Behind Evan, two guards followed, their movements mechanical and their faces devoid of emotion, resulting from the brainwashing that had turned them into perfect sentinels.

Amit's legs buckled, and he stumbled back against the wall. "Evan..." he whispered, his voice cracking.

Evan's lips curved into a faint smile, though it lacked any warmth. "Amit," he said, his tone calm and measured, like a predator toying with its prey. "How are you finding your stay?" Read new chapters at empire

Amit's mouth opened and closed like a fish gasping for air. His fear was palpable, and the air in the room seemed to grow heavier with each passing second.

"P-please," Amit stammered, falling to his knees. "Please... let me go. I swear, I didn't do anything against you. I will become your loyal dog, just please..."

Amit's voice broke as he cried out, his pride completely shattered.

He had never suffered so much grievance. Every day, he was attended to and taken care of by many pairs of servants.

He had once basked in a life of luxury and riches. Even his food was splattered with a hundred items, so how could he survive on meager rations? The hunger was unbearable.

This torture was so much.

Evan tilted his head, his eyes narrowing. "Loyal?" He chuckled softly, but there was no humor in it. "You call what you did loyalty? Selling information, meddling in affairs that weren't yours. You thought I wouldn't find out?"

Amit shook his head violently, tears streaming down his face. "It wasn't like that! I... I had no choice! They forced me! I didn't want to betray you!"

Evan stepped closer, each step echoing ominously against the floor. He crouched at Amit's level, his icy gaze boring into the man's soul. "No choice?" he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "You always had a choice, Amit. You simply made the wrong one."

Amit broke down completely, sobbing as his hands clutched his face. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... Please, just let me go! I'll do anything!"

Amit stumbled back, his legs shaky, his back pressing against the cold wall. His voice broke as he screamed, "Evan... stop this! Let me go!"

Evan chuckled, a low, chilling sound that sent shivers down Amit's spine. "Have you ever wondered," Evan said, stepping closer, his voice casual yet deadly, "if it was your destiny to end up like this since we met?"

Amit's fear turned to desperation as he clenched his fists, glaring at Evan with whatever courage he could muster. "This is madness!" he shouted, his voice shaking. "What do you hope to achieve by going after the Central government...you...Monster? You'll be branded a terrorist!"

Evan tilted his head slightly, an amused smirk playing on his lips. "That's only if anyone finds out," he said, shrugging casually. Then, without warning, he squatted down and gripped Amit's face, forcing him to meet his icy eyes.

"Evan...They planned to kill," Amit gasped, clutching at the last strands of defiance. "But I showed kindness and let you live. It's because of me you were able to survive so at the very least you should let me live...You owe me a favour."

The room was thick with tension as Amit's words hung in the air, trembling with a faint note of defiance. "We took pity on you and let you live," he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.

For a moment, there was silence. Then, Evan threw his head back and laughed—a cold, hollow laugh that sent a chill racing down Amit's spine. The sound was devoid of any warmth, echoing through the room like a death knell.

"I owe you shit so shut up bastard."

"Whom are you kidding?" Evan shouted, his voice sharp as a blade. His eyes gleamed with a dark amusement, but beneath it lay a storm of icy rage. "You didn't spare me out of the kindness of your heart."

Amit's eyes widened as Evan leaned closer, his voice dropping to a chilling whisper. "It wasn't mercy. It was a strategy. A failsafe."

The words struck like a hammer, and Amit's body stiffened, his mind racing to deny the truth that Evan had so effortlessly laid bare.

"I know how you twin-headed snakes work," Evan continued, circling Amit like a predator toying with its prey. "You wanted to take the risk, but not the full plunge. If your plan failed and my parents realized immediately that the child wasn't theirs, things could've gone south for you. You need to leave a leeway—a contingency."

Amit's lips parted as if to protest, but no words came. His body trembled, and his throat died.

Evan stopped before him, his piercing gaze boring into Amit's. "That's why you left me alive. Because as long as I existed, you could salvage the situation. You'd be the savior swooping in to help them find their lost child, playing the hero. Isn't that right?"

Amit's breath hitched, and his eyes darted around the room as though searching for an escape. His hands clenched and unclenched while his body froze in a mix of fear and disbelief. He swallowed hard, his throat dry, but he still forced a whisper, "Don't kill me... please... don't kill me."

Evan's lips curled into a cold, merciless smile. "Don't worry," he said, his tone almost mocking. "I won't kill you. I won't even lay a finger on you."

For a brief moment, hope flicker in Amit's eyes.

"But..." Evan leaned in closer, his voice sharp and venomous. "You also won't live well."

Amit's hope shattered like glass.

"I will make sure," Evan continued, his tone dropping to a sinister whisper, "that every single day of your life will be hell. Soon enough, you'll beg for death. But even death... will be a mercy you'll never deserve for your betrayal."

Evan straightened, his presence radiating an aura of pure dominance. His cold, unrelenting gaze lingered on Amit for a moment longer before he turned to leave.

While Evan walked out of the room, Amit collapsed to the ground, trembling uncontrollably, his mind consumed by the nightmare that awaited him. As the door slammed shut behind Evan, the darkness in the room seemed to grow, mirroring the despair clawing at Amit's soul.
