The next morning Long Jie was woken up by the sunlight streaming through the windows like Heaven was descending upon the earth. Someone had pulled out the curtains. And he had a clear idea, who this someone was.
Reaching toward the other side of the bed and feeling nothing but empty sheets, a panic stirred in his heart. The opening and closing of drawers sent an instant rush of relief through him.
"Ugh….this is me? Where the hell is my phone?" Zhenyi was standing in her robe, in front of the mirror, examining the bluish marks on her neck, breast, and so on.
She checked out the drawers hoping he had put her phone there. Not that she was snooping. No, she definitely was not spying on his stuff. Even, if she was, it would be justified, given she was his wife now.
She was looking for her phone to ask Bingbing how to get rid of these…. artwork.
Shit.
Phone.
Where the heck was her phone? She found her phone near the couch on the floor.'How did it end up here?' She thought.
Nevermind, she picked up the phone and dialed Fan Bingbing's number.
"Zhenyi."
The deep voice calling her name wasn't Fan Bingbing's The amused and drowse voice didn't belong to her either.
Long Jie was curious as to see as what on earth she was doing early in the morning. She had been talking to herself for the last thirty minutes.
"Zhenyi?" He called out again.
Huh…
He rolled out of the bed to see what his crazy wife was doing. He patted her shoulder to draw her attention.
"Wife?"He said cautiously.
The sunlight dawned on her while she stood in front of the mirror, wearing one of his robes that was a little larger on thin her frame. Her messy black hair trailed down her back, and, Lord knew how he grew warm at the sight. He wished to wake up to the very sight each day. Well, minus -- leaving him alone on the bed.
"Go away," came a frustrated groan.
"What are you doing here?"He asked as his eyes darted towards the mirror, then her, and finally on the phone.
"Sorry to remind you but we got married yesterday." She said, sarcasm touching her voice.
"You don't remember?"She added after seeing he had no intention of engaging in the verbal battle with her. Long Jie sighed inwardly. He was aware of her little game but unfortunately, there would not be any battle. Atleast for now.
"Aiya! I almost got killed while marrying you and here you don't even remember it. All my hard work went to waste." She dramatically sobbed.
"Are you done?" Long jie leaned in and narrowed his gray eyes at her. He had wanted a wife and got a damm heart attack waiting to happen.
"What?" She blinked at her husband.
" The profile doesn't mention my wife is a fan of dramas too," He said and folded his arms on his chest.
"Profile?" Her mouth falls open. Did he receive a profile on her? Shit. Of course, he did.
"Yes, the one I received holding information on you." He easily replied. She was not the only one who received a profile on her future spouse.
"Like hell, you received the file on me," she respond with her standard short temper, even though she knew he was not joking.
"You didn't?"She asked again. She waited for him to say something, but was answered with his unusual silence.
"You have a file on me? Unbelievable. It is the violation of my privacy."She exploded with rage.
"Very funny. I am aware, you certainly have one of the same files on each of my family members."
He languidly said. But inwardly he was astonished by her sudden rage. What secrets was she harboring from him? Was there something she didn't wish to tell him? Most importantly, why the hell he was so restless?
"Whatever." She harrumphed. She seemed like a hypocrite. After a pause, she asked again."What did you discover about me in that profile?"
"Very useful information. Where you went to school, your favorite color, which shoe brand you like, or what your shoe number is," he answered honestly but derision was naked in his voice.
For heaven's sake, he didn't even find her picture in the damm profile. It did not really matter at that time what her profile said. She was wealthy, and most importantly a Xin. That was all that was important. He knew his father was hoping that by getting him that information, he would warm to the idea and just purblindly agree. But what surprised them both was the profile itself. Though Long Jie was irritated because of the content of the profile it amused him too. No one ever played with his father the way Xin Yichen did. And it was so damm amusing. But if he had found her photograph before, he wouldn't be restless for days because of a certain 'heterochromatic cat-eyed woman.'
"Hahaha...I love my Bà. FYI, I never went to school or college. I was homeschooled." She chuckled. Cao Kung was right, her father was truly very petty when it came to his children. But the way he played Longs? Mindblowing.
"So, the file was a faux?"Long Jie asked in disbelief.
"Indeed."She replied nonchalantly as if it was a general thing to do.
"By the way, what were you doing here?" He asked once he remembered why he approached her in the first place.
"Told you I married you yesterday."She replied casually.
"Huh….what the hell are you doing here in front of the mirror? And allow me to add, talking to yourself early in the morning." He asked as her again. Which sane person talked to herself in the mirror?
"You have the audacity to ask me? Look at this." She pointed at her neck.
" How am I supposed to get rid of your handiwork?"He would be lying to himself if he said he didn't feel proud of his handiwork-- correction 'teeth work' when he saw bluish marks on her neck. Also, he had a sudden urge to nibble the non-blue area.
But now it was urgent to remove the marks otherwise she would kick him out of his bed and he can't afford it now. Especially, when they were still in the honeymoon period.
"Give me your phone, " He said.
"Why?" She asked in confusion.
"You talk too much." He pecked her lips to shut her up and took her phone to search for the remedy of love bites on the Internet.
'How to remove love bite marks instantly?' He typed on the search engine and within seconds lots of pages and tabs opened.
He smiled. "Here."
"Mmmm... Why do I feel you have a lot of experience in this regard?" She muttered to herself while reading the content on the phone.
"And why do I feel someone is jealous?"He asked her as he took a step in her direction.
She harrumphed. Jealous? Why she would be jealous of someone?
"Whatever. Your past is none of my business. To me, your past doesn't matter neither does your future. But what matters to me -- is your present. Our present. I don't care how many women you had in your past. I won't even ask you. But now there has to be only one woman. Just me. I can tolerate anything but infidelity."
"Come here." He said calmly, though his heart was in unrest. How could she say something so nonchalantly and expect him to behave casually?
When he heard her saying that his past didn't matter to her. He had a sudden urge to pull her into his arm and so he did. He grabbed her phone and put it on the table.
"Leave it for now."
Never had someone said so soothing words to him -- his past didn't matter. What else he wanted from life?
"I can't say that there was no one before you but I promise there will be only one woman till the end of my life."He said sincerely as he kissed her hair."You."
"Kill me before I cheat on you. I told you if I fuck up again, just slash my throat." He said again, breathing her scent.
"God, you smell so good. It's my favorite fragrance in the whole wide world now." And just like this, he changed the course of the conversation again.
"What do I smell like?" She smiled in his arms. Seeing he had no intention of engaging in the previous conversation, she let him divert the course of conversation.
She was touched by his honesty and sincerity. Maybe, it was always what she needed.'
And please God don't take it away from me' she prayed in the heart.
He contemplated for a minute before speaking, "Like mine."
"Never knew you were so cheesy." She snickered at his response. This was perfect. At least for now.
"Me neither."He rasped as he rested his head in the crook of her neck.
Understanding hit him. This was his life now. She was life. And it was perfect. He hoped that his past remain buried wherever it was. Because he couldn't afford to lose the only precious thing of his life to the ghosts of his past.
"So." He said after some time to divert his attention to the most beautiful woman in his arms. He wouldn't let his past take anymore from him than it had already taken. And certainly not her.
"So?"She asked feigning ignorance, but in reality, she had to bite her cheek to hold in a smile because she knew where he was getting at---her favorite part. And which sane woman could keep her hands off this gorgeous man?
"What's next?" He asked. Only if he knew the thoughts running in her head.
"I think I have an idea."Zhenyi giggled as she wriggled in his arms to face him.
"Really?"Funny both of them didn't even realize why they rolled out of bed in the first place when they were ending up there again.
She nodded.
"Does your idea involves you naked?" He asked mischievously.
"It definitely does.".
