The sound of the footsteps jolted Master Yichen as he came out of his room to find the staff running here and there. The expression on their faces was baffling. He peeked out of the window and saw extra bodyguards were recruited which was quite puzzling to him.
But he noticed something unusual. The additional men were not Xin soldiers but they belonged to Ryuu's special team. The uniforms on their body were telling him.
He walked further and reached the corridor where a team of doctors appeared with their equipment and he would be wrong if he said he was not feared. He was quite aware of the feeling of fear. All his life he ruled by installing this feeling of fear in his enemy and today he was experiencing it himself.
"Master, Yichen," They bowed and didn't wait any longer before entering the left-wing of the Mansion.
He exactly knew what was there.
Ryuu's assistant appeared, his otherwise cold and stiff expression grim and Xin Yichen just knew whoever they were here for was not Ryuu because if something had happened to Ryuu his assistant wouldn't be here, he'd did before he left his boss die.
Relief coursed through him for a nanosecond before the panic and anxiety hit him again.
If not Ryuu then who?
His father? But he was not at that side of the mansion? He had strictly announced that he would die on his bed where his wife took her last breath.
Everything was happening so quickly that he couldn't play the game of assuming and guessing.
He needed a clear answer and that too fast.
"Master," Cao Kung said, and after him emerged Cao Feng, his assistant's son who just happened to be her daughter's assistant too.
Xin Yichen raised his brow. He was supposed to be in the hospital what was he doing here? And Cao Kung went to visit his son?
Just like this, he knew the answer, but his heart and every working organ inside him refused to accept the grave reality. How could he, it was ridiculous, and accepting it was even more ridiculous?
"What's going on here?"Xin Yichen asked his assistant. He might be old and left the organization but his impact was still the same.
No one dared to offend Master Yichen. Beneath his carefree and smiling face resides a man who would put even the devil to shame.
"Master-" Cao Kung tried to speak but he couldn't form words to utter.
He didn't know how to tell his master that the daughter he loved more than himself was battling with death. There was no surety if she would live or die. As he had heard from Ryuu's assistant that her pulse was getting weaker and weaker with each passing moment, it was hard to save her.
Or, she could die any moment.
"I said what's going on here?" Xin Yichen asked again. His voice grew more right and hard.
"Uncle Chen, What's happening here?" Aria appeared on the spot and asked him.
She was surprised to see the hustle-bustle in the ever silent mansion. The servants were not telling her what had happened as they were not informed of.
All of a sudden, the time froze as Ryuu entered the hallway, Zhenyi in his arms. She was colored in red from head to toe. In his arms, she no less resembled a red lifeless doll.
Everyone stopped, time stilled and Xin Yichen stiffened on the spot as he felt the change in the surroundings.
"Sister Zhenyi," Aria whispered as she was the first one to notice Ryuu. A sob escaped her throat.
Ryuu didn't even glance at anyone and went inside where the doctors were awaiting them. He couldn't console his father right now, his sister needed him, and like he promised he would be there whenever she needed him.
She wouldn't die. She couldn't die. Right? Lord, she couldn't leave them. His life would be meaningless if anything happened to his family?
What would be Ryuu without his family? His only essence was to protect his family. He would never break the promise he gave to his mother, the mother he loved more than anything else in this world.
Xin Yichen turned and his gaze fell on Ryuu's back and the person in his arms, and just like that his whole existence shattered. His heart stopped beating inside his ribcage, his brain quit functioning and every working organ stilled.
He didn't know how long he stared at his son's retiring figure but he realized he was not there anymore.
When reality finally sank into him, he almost fell on the floor if not for Aria's quick reflexes. She made him sit on the sofa and Cao Kung came with a glass of water but he refused.
Before Ryuu's arrival, he managed to fool himself into believing that everything was alright and under his control and that none of his children was hurt. But now he could completely see clarity, he could see that his daughter was hurt, hurt beyond words, and watching her like this was no less than the greatest punishment for him.
" I need to see, my Zin'er," Xin Yichen said after few moments. Gone was the shaking father and in his place was the Xin Yichen, the one who made his children the fearless fighters and how could their father be weak and shaky.
Though he was dying inside, he knew he had to be strong for his children.
One was fighting to make sure her sister survives and another fighting for her life so that she wouldn't leave her family behind to die everyday like her mother did once.
