The Next Day
"CEO Du, we are in a great crisis," His Secretary said as she barged in the office without knocking.
"That I can guess since you barged into my office without knocking." He lifted his head from the papers he was looking over and see her scowl. Since when did this kitten start entering the office without cowering?
"Pardon me, sir," she said as she gulped in fear. She was afraid of his smiling face. No matter how handsome or charming he looked, she was quite aware of his real self. He was a devil in human skin.
"What happened?" Du Zheng asked with a smile and leaned against the chair.
"All the major projects that we signed this year are getting canceled one by one. The hydropower project in the south was stopped by the government officials this morning as the government unexpectedly decided to heed to the demands of the protesters." She reported.
Du Zheng ran his hands over his face, heaving out a long-suffering sigh. "This Xin Zhenyi! She is the one behind the sudden decision."
"We have no proof, sir. Apart from Du Corporation, Bai Groups and Azaire owned by the Lin family are the second biggest rivals of XC in China," she said and paused to check his expressions. "A few minutes ago, representatives of these companies sent the notice that they won't be working further with us. If it has something to do with XC, they won't take such extreme decisions given how important Du cooperation is for them."
"Dammit. How bad is the situation?" He cursed.
"If it continues we will be filing the bankruptcy soon."
"Leave me alone for a moment. And I want you to find who is behind this as soon as possible," he told and motioned her to leave the room.
"On it, sir." She nodded and went out.
He stood up abruptly as she left and hit the table. He made sure she suffered but it seemed his plans backfired. He really has underestimated the women. What a scheming woman! Terrorist attack! His ass! She was very well aware of the fact that those companies were just two of the shell companies that his company was used for money laundering and evading taxes. She could report it to authorities but no she had to bomb them.
Just what did she gain from blowing up his companies? It was not as if she had destroyed any machinery or harmed any person. The media was eating his brains out.
Poor Du Zheng would be astonished to hear that Zhenyi blew up his companies for enjoyment. It was not something new for Zhenyi but it was definitely new and unusual for Du Zheng.
The door to his office swung open again. The sound of Italian loafers hitting the marble through the room. He didn't have to look up to know it was his dear dad, and by the way, he stomped in, it was not good. Dear dad was angry. Well, beyond angry. And he was the reason like always.
"What the hell have you done?" He bellowed.
His father was the former CEO of the Du cooperation. He chose to live a peaceful life after years of serving his family business and stepped down as he gave the reign of the company in the hands of his eldest son meaning -- Du Zheng. But it didn't stop him from showing his dominance from time to time whenever success got to the head of his son.
Du Zheng was an excellent businessman but he was not a good man and his father was quite aware of it. He would leave his principles as long as he was getting profits. This was not what his father had hoped for his son.
"Just a trade gone bad." His indifferent reply took his father by surprise.
He took a deep breath and glanced at his son. "A trade gone bad? You have to be shitting me, son. Do you even have any idea how bigger of the mess you are stuck in or we all are stuck in? No company reaches on the verge of bankruptcy overnight."
"Dad…" Du Zheng drew out. " There is no profit without the risk."
His father looked at his son in bewilderment. Had he no idea about the exact situation? Because if he had then his confidence was surely startling. Or maybe his son was too shocked to react rightly to the situation which explained his dripping confidence well.
"We will be fine," Du Zheng replied indifferently.
Xin Zhenyi was creating problems for him. Fine. Wasn't it was he was doing for the last few weeks? She was not pleased with the blast so she attacked his company. Fine too. He would deal with it. She was just a woman who was not even worthy of his attention.
Perhaps, Du Zheng had not noticed that this woman unworthy of his attention was on his mind 24/7 these days.
"Like hell, we will be," He howled. "Make it right. As soon as possible. Or be ready to step down. I can't let you destroy the company our ancestors have nurtured by their sweat and blood."
Du Zheng laughed inwardly. Always blood and sweat. Who asked them to waste their own blood and when could spill the blood of the enemy? Again, he kept silent. His father was not a fan of bloodshed neither was he a fan of him.
"Like I said, we will be alright. It's just a few projects that get canceled," Du Zheng answered with a shrug like it was no big deal.
It might not be a big deal for him but it surely was for everyone else except him. And it was high time, he realized that it was clearly a big deal.
"Unbelievable. Do you know how many families are against us? His father asked in astonishment. " It was okay till it impacted the business but it is now affecting my family and the whole Du clan."
"So what if everyone is against me now?" Du Zheng asked his father as he stared at him. "There is still one person who will surely provide aid in our dire situation. And if he did, everyone else will be following him."
"And who is that?" His father asked.
"A friend. Enemy of the enemy meaning-- a friend."
"In simple words, Long Jie. Isn't it the time to join hands with Longs to take down their ultimate enemy? The animosity between Longs and Xins is not hidden from anyone, dad. Long Jie will be interested in my proposal," said Du Zheng. " I've something against Xin Zhenyi which he will be very much interested to know and in return I want the extinction of Xins not only from this country but also from the plains of this earth."
His father shook his head at him as he said, "Du Zheng, how many times have I told you not to include yourself with these two families? When years ago I asked you to step up for the role of CEO, my only condition was not to touch either of them but surely you never listened. "
"They are not as invincible as you say," said Du Zheng, exasperation visible in his eyes. " I found Xin Zhenyi's Achilles heel and I am surely going to end her with her lousy clan. I've something against her that will destroy her."
He narrowed his eyes and then shook his head." I do not care what you have against each other. Du Zheng, you need to be alive to use it against her. These two families, they always bluff about killing each other, if they wanted to they would have killed each other year's ago when they were given the choice" He then softened his voice and said, "Son, take it as advice from your old man. They will chew you and then spit you out. If they are the worse people to have enemies, then they are even worse to have as friends."
"Stop it, Dad," Di Zheng said annoyed. " You are talking about your era. I agree Xins were strong once but it was during the reign of Xin Yichen. Do not forget he has no son to continue his legacy. The Xin Clan ends with him. His daughter thinks that she is an invincible queen but she is nothing but destructible and weak."
"Ah Zheng, stop this insanity. And save yourself first. I can't handle a war with either of these neither can I handle the friendship with them."
"You are nothing but a coward, Dad. I'll take my business and clan to a greater height. Let me do whatever I want." His voice was strong, and it left no room for objection.
"A woman can't defeat me. What is Xin Zhenyi without her surname?"
