The buzzing of something unknown accompanied by the blinding light jerked Zhenyi out of never-ending darkness. Earlier, it seemed like she had been walking and walking and walking in the darkness, looking for the source of light but no matter how much she was trying to look for it, she just couldn't discover it.
It was so frustrating, so tiring and so depressing that Zhenyi couldn't help but accept defeat. Then again, she was Zhenyi and defeat was not something she would ever accept.
The jolt made Zhenyi realized that she had been in a deep slumber and no idea for how long, and the dark route where she was walking and which didn't come to end earlier was like a dream to her now. Wait, she had indeed been watching a dream. Oh, so she was caught in a dream or maybe a nightmare.
She looked around and found herself in a very odd yet familiar room. She had seen this place somewhere before but couldn't remember where exactly? 'Nevermind, time to get out of here. '
She removed her body from the vast bed and started walking barefoot to look for a way out to reach home. Her husband must be waiting for her at home. Last she remembered, she had been in an accident and now it seemed she was in some unfamiliar place. Did they save her? And if they did, who are they, an enemy or an ally?
And the voices that she heard before fainting belonged to Ryuu? Ugh, why couldn't she remember it now?
"I've to go home now, and I promised Jie that we will talk in the evening. He will be waiting for me. I have to reach before dusk, surely I don't want him to think that he was being stood up."
She walked out of the room and headed to the exit of the house. From the looks of it seemed like a grand mansion, a little like Xin mansion. She found many people working there. She even tried to talk to them but they didn't look at her and kept themselves engaged in their work. It seemed like these servants are not allowed to talk to guests. What a strange rule!
She sighed. Or perhaps the staff here don't talk to guests. However, she kept walking on her own and magnificent stairs came into her view. She descended the stairs and reached the hall.
Although a strange creepy feeling was creeping into her heart, she still managed to remain calm, but inside she was shaking like a leaf.
But deep down she knew that she was not caught or captured by her rivals. She didn't know how she know but she just did. Perhaps, it was the mansion that felt like home to her. It felt so warm and loving that she just didn't want to go back to her own home yet.
Such a strange feeling it was…but she just couldn't deny it.
A beautiful and infectious sound of giggles and laughter was coming from the kitchen, and she was so attracted to the sound that she couldn't help but walk to the side as if her feet were walking on their own.
She opened the door to the kitchen and saw few people huddled there. A tall lady was cooking something or maybe trying to cook something and the man behind her was trying to persuade her to leave it. She couldn't see their faces but she could tell that he really loved her as she can hear the concern in his voice
'"Love, how about I cook for us? Hmm? Didn't you say I am the best cook?"The man again tried.
Zhenyi smiled when the woman spoke, " No. I'm cooking today means I'm cooking. Ah-Chen, don't you dare try to distract me."
She reminded Zhenyi of her, the way she spoke, the tone of her voice, and the way she maintained her body posture. Her husband was right, she didn't belong in the kitchen. She belonged on the battlefield. She had an aura of a fighter.
It seemed her husband was not backing out, but he didn't seem frustrated either. In fact, he was talking even more sweetly and gently to her that it kind of gave cringes to her but she still couldn't stop watching the scene, "But wife, you don't know how to cook." Her husband told her. " You never stepped a foot in the kitchen ever."
"Ah-Chen, I'm telling you, I can cook, so what I never cooked before but I came here many times and once I even boiled the water!" She said proudly.
The man sighed and Zhenyi couldn't help but smile at them. They were so cute.
Wait! She just used the word 'cute'. Something was certainly wrong with her head.
Her attention was caught by another giggle and her eyes fell on the figure sitting on the kitchen counter. Their daughter, she guessed. It was a little girl not more than five years old. Zhenyi could see her face perfectly and she seemed somewhat familiar to her. She had a huge smile on her face as if no grief or sorrow in the world could touch her.
A little boy slightly older than her was feeding her strawberries dipped in her favorite chocolate. She suddenly felt like she wanted it too, but she never liked chocolate before.
To be honest, Zhenyi was a little jealous of this little girl. She had everyone she needed. Zhenyi had everything: a great father, best-est brother in the whole wide world, a wonderful husband (though she would never admit it aloud), all the wealth and power in the world but still, she didn't have a mother and no wealth and power were greater than God to send her mother back to her. She was not a crybaby, she was just a motherless kid who would never admit how much she needed or miss her.
Her trail of thought was halted by another giggle. The boy was wiping her face which was covered with chocolate with his hand, and the little girl was giggling at him.
It was such a beautiful picture that she didn't dare disturb her. A servant came and Zhenyi turned to him to talk but like everyone, he didn't even glance at her and it was like she didn't even exist. She went after him and kept on calling him but no one heard her. It was bizarre. It was unnerving. It was frustrating.
All of a sudden, she stopped. The mirror in front of her showed her current image. She was dressed in her white wedding gown, the same gown she had worn on her wedding day, she could recognize it anywhere and her hair, they were scattered over her head as if it hadn't been combed for days and what was the most surprising was that there were no rings on her finger and she was walking barefoot, but her feet didn't hurt as something pricked into her sole.
She was going crazy, what was happening? She was in another world? No. No. It couldn't be happening? Did she died and reached another world? No. No.No. She wanted to go back to her home. She wanted to go back to Long Jie. Where was he? She calmed her racing heart. She could deal with it. She had dealt with a situation worse than it.
"Calm down. Calm down. Calm down, Zhenyi." She kept on chanting.
"Calm the hell down," She yelled but no one heard her voice.
"You will look for a way out, Zhenyi. You will find the way out," she said to herself. "You always does."
She ran and ran and ran and in the end her feet took her to the same kitchen again. Who was this family? And why was she in their home? She didn't know them? Did she? No. She gripped her head in her hands and pulled her hair tightly. "Focus, Zhenyi. Focus. Please, for God's Sake focus." She was tormenting herself but what else she could do? She was stuck in a bizarre situation.
Who was this family? She stared at them again. The loving family. The beautiful family. The warm family. The family which was not hers. She wanted to look at them closely and so she walked ahead. Perhaps, if she saw their faces, she would recognize them.
The little girl looked in her direction and slowly and slowly her eyes settled on her and suddenly her smile weakened. She blinked at Zhenyi. Zhenyi realized that the girl could see her, literally see her, and walked towards her but before she could reach her, the scene changed and she reached a different world, perhaps the same world but different time zone.
