"Where are you taking me?" Zhenyi asked him for a million times and like every time he ignored her question as if he hadn't heard her in the first place.
He had asked her to follow him as he had planned a surprise for her. A romantic surprise she assumed in her head. But her heart was trying to knock down the walls of her chest and striving to come out to see it for itself. That's how she was feeling right now.
However, the stubborn man who happened to be her husband was not telling her at all.
"Tell me, Jie or I am not following you at all," Zhenyi threatened, but she was still walking behind him and her hand clutched in his.
Long Jie turned around to look at her, even in dim lights, he could clearly see the curiosity in her eyes.
His curious cat.
"Curiosity got the cat killed, Love," Long Jie said with an amused smile.
"I don't know about the cat, but I will surely kill you if you don't tell me within three seconds," He ignored her and kept walking ahead, showing her the way.
"I didn't know there were so many alleys in the mansion, how come I never knew of it?" Zhenyi muttered to herself in exasperation.
"Come on, Cat eyes. Here I'm trying to be romantic and you are into the detective's roleplay." Long Jie shook his head in amusement as he saw his wild cat was taking out the hidden claws.
"Romantic?" She scoffed. "Aren't you trying to be extra-romantic today, husband? First, you send me a dress with a note and then you send Bà to accompany me downstairs like a perfect British butler. And hell, he was so into the roleplay that I was seeing him as the eighteen century British Butler escorting the princess."
"Thought my wife would appreciate a little roleplay," Long Jie said with a wink.
"Trust me, I will always appreciate foreplay over roleplay," Zhenyi deadpanned.
Dear Lord, how come she could forget that she had demanded that they stay celibate?
"Zhenyi keep your dirty thoughts at bay. We are not doing any of the things you have been imagining in your dirty mind." Long Jie chided her and she pressed her lips in a thin line.
"Then, I can go back to my room." Zhenyi was all ready to go back to her room.
"No." Long Jie said immediately.
He knew how difficult it was to get her out of that depressing room and the mourning mood she was in for months. She seemed a little like her normal self right now, so there was no chance, he was letting her go back to that dreadful room.
"We have reached." He announced.
Zhenyi looked around to find what was so special and romantic about this place. To her disappointment, there was nothing but darkness and darkness as far as she could see.
Seeing her aggrieved face, Long Jie chuckled. "What are you thinking?"
"That I am proven wrong," Zhenyi retorted.
"Huh?"
"I was thinking you were once secretly married, given your over-the-top romantic surprises but no, you are even worse than me." Zhenyi's answer caused Long Jie's eyes to widen in shock.
"Cat eyes, just what goes in this mind of yours?" Long Jie asked her.
"A lot of things actually," She honestly replied.
"I don't have any hidden woman or worst of all a secret wife. For heaven's sake, you are the only wife I have."
"Chill, don't take me seriously. Told you, I am not right in the head," she told him with a sad smile.
He could make out her sad face even in the dark. He leaned closer and stroked her face gently, his breath fanning her face.
Seeing him close to her, she closed her eyes in anticipation of another toe-curling kiss but…
"Close your eyes," he whispered as he covered her eyes with his palm.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
And five seconds later.
"Open your eyes," Long Jie said.
Zhenyi flickered her eyes as yellow light attacked her eyes all of a sudden. She blinked once and then twice before her eyes adjusted to the light.
"That's…." She was at a loss for words when the scene before her registered in her mind. "Beautiful."
"Not more than you," he said simply looking at her.
She heard him fine but couldn't seem to form words to reply. She wanted to reply but her gaze was fixed on the beautiful atmosphere he had created. It was gorgeous..no..no..it was mesmerizing. Heaven, could she say it was heavenly like it was a utopian world?
He took her arm and led her over to the table which he had set on the side of an artificial lake and pulled out a chair for her.
To say he had put an effort in creating the atmosphere as romantic as he could have been minimizing how much he had done for her.
"Thank you for agreeing, wife."
" You sent such a beautiful dress even if I didn't want to, I couldn't resist the temptation of wearing it," She said with a hearty laugh.
"Glad you liked it," he said, pouring wine in the glasses.
"Though you could have just sent the flowers instead of racking up your brain for a dress."
"I could have...but flowers wither and die with time. Their beauty fades, Love and it becomes unmemorable… so, I chose something that will remind you of me. For an everlasting beauty, I chose a dress that I want you to see in ," he told her.
Zhenyi looked at him as she placed her chin on her fist and solemnly asked, "Then again, won't the dress end up on the floor before the night ends?"
