[After a few hours in the Long Mansion.]
"Do you find anything suspicious?" Zhenyi was talking to Cao Feng on the phone. It seemed like another problem was waiting for her. With Xin Yichen being busy with Ryuu's wedding arrangement, Zhenyi was left to run the business. Not that she minds but...she was enjoying the holiday of her life.
Their underground cocaine fields were destroyed by an unknown party. She bore the loss of over millions.
The last two months were pretty plain or to say nothing thrilling happened.
She put the phone beside her and started reviewing the files. She was back to boss mode.
A while later, her phone rang again thinking it was Cao Feng calling to give her the report, she picked it up without checking the caller.
"Zhenyi, where is the painting?" Ming Jia's chilling voice came.
Zhenyi closed her eyes in exasperation. Don't get her wrong, she loved Ming Jia but right now, the latter was getting on her nerves.
She massaged the bridge of her nose and asked in a neutral voice," What painting are you talking about?"
"Don't try to oversmart me, young woman," Ming Jia said in a threatening voice. But only if it worked on Zhenyi. "You opened the box, didn't you? You asked me about that woman earlier and now her painting is missing. Tell me, did you take that painting?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Zhenyi said in exasperation. She paused for a moment to let Ming Jia calm her anger down and added," Let's answer each other's questions, Godma. I'm sure you need the answer to yours badly just like I need for mine."
Ming Jia glared at the phone in her hand. "You! You! You really outsmarted me this time!" She huffed and puffed for a long time and then spoke," Fire away!"
"I just have one question," Zhenyi said nonchalantly. "Who's that woman to my Jie?"
"Why would a woman who has a connection with Ah-Shaan be related to your husband?" Ming Jia asked her instead.
"So, you agree that she is related to Ah-Shaan?" Zhenyi retorted.
Ming Jia was at a loss for words. She realized that she fell straight into Zhenyi's plans.
"Why do you think that woman is related to your husband in any way?" Ming Jia asked Zhenyi confusedly. As far as she knew, that woman was certainly not related to Long Jie. She came into Ah-Shaan's life after Long Jie's birth. Then how could he be related to that woman?"
"Because, Godma, in the painting that I found in Long Ah-Shaan's room, that woman is wearing a ring on the ring finger of her left hand," Zhenyi said pointing at something.
"What does it have to do with Long Jie?"
"It has everything to do with my Jie, Godma. Do you know where that ring is now?" Zhenyi questioned her.
"How would I know?" Ming Jia asked her.
"It's on my finger, Godma," Zhenyi whispered,
stunning the latter. She was staring at her finger where the ring was worn."As my engagement ring. My Jie was carrying this ring in his wallet, why? He had no intention of giving it to someone if I hadn't refused the gold ring that time. Why is this matter involving him? Are you hiding something from me?"
Having no answer for Zhenyi questions, Ming Jia just disconnected the call.
'I hope one day you will answer my questions. Until then, I will dig into this Long Ah-Shaan.' Zhenyi said to herself.
A knock on the door was heard and a moment later, a young woman dressed in maid uniform came.
"Mrs. Long, would you like to take tea here or in the garden? Elder Matriarch wishes to know," the girl said with a pleasant smile, though inwardly she was cowering under Zhenyi's chilling gaze.
"In the room, please."
Zhenyi went to freshen up and when she came back, she saw the same maid setting up the tray. Her room probably had the best view. She enjoyed looking out of the window whenever she was bored.
She gestured to the maid to leave and saw she was about to pick up the cup, her gaze fell on a yellow note hidden beneath the tray. An ordinary person wouldn't have noticed it but she did.
She unfolded the note and it read as...
'XIN ZHENYI, you were told not to dig up the skeleton of the past. Especially the ones that have nothing to do with you.
The skeletons of the past are buried for a reason, but you didn't listen to anyone.
I have my eyes on you. Always. I'm here to stop you from letting fate play this sick and twisted game.
Since you also love playing games so much then this Young Master will tell you how they are played.
You shouldn't have poked your nose. You will regret it. If not, I'll make you regret it.
For every mistake you will commit, I will punish you. Be ready to receive the punishment.'
Zhenyi's eyes widened in shock as she read the message written on the yellow note.
Throwing the note on the floor, she ran towards the door to see who dropped it there.
"Ada!"
A moment later, Ada appeared but she was surprised to see a fierce Zhenyi.
"Boss!"
"Investigate the maid that brought me the tea just now. Inquire if she was paid to drop the note in the tray. Now!"
Ada came out of shock and ran to investigate the matter as soon as possible.
Zhenyi then returned to her room, deep in thought. Did someone see her in Long Ah-Shaan's room? She made sure to wipe all the evidence. Even Long Wei, the tech genius, couldn't find anything wrong. Her plan was flawless. Who saw her there?
She was not afraid of the one who sent her the note. She just wanted to know who was behind it.
Her eyes fell on the note again. As she unfolded it to read it again, she found that the words printed on the note vanished as if they were not here in the first place. She was sure it was the same note, but how on earth did the printed words disappear?
