101 You Are the Only Woman I Want By My Side
After Auntie Huang went downstairs, Lin Wan was still worried. She took off her earphones and stood on the balcony to look at the situation in the courtyard. She had heard the whole thing. She had not expected Li Zekai to be on her side.
‘Li Yanchen’s ex-wife’s younger sister…’
Ideally, everyone was supposed to be more supportive to her because of such close relations. But seeing Auntie Huang and Li Zekai’s reaction, Lin Wan understood that she wasn’t very liked here. ‘What might have happened for that to happen?’
Lin Wan rested her chin on her hand and pondered for a moment. Her sister-in-law was looking for her brother-in-law in the middle of the night. It did not seem to be that simple. In her original world, she had often heard of men marrying their sister-in-law. But Li Yanchen didn’t seem like that kind of a person.
!!
Du Xing was still creating a commotion. In the end, when Auntie Huang went into the house and locked the door, she left resentfully.
In the house, Li Zekai called his father and told him of the incident. He told his father what Du Xing had shouted toward Lin Wan.
Li Yanchen was already tossing and turning in bed, and upon learning about Du Xing and how she had come looking for him in the middle of the night, he was even more frustrated.
“Dad, that Auntie said she would come back tomorrow.” Li Zekai looked out the window.
“I’ll be home at noon tomorrow.”
Li Zekai was happy. “Yay! Daddy, you should rest early then.”
After his youngest son hung up the call, Li Yanchen dialed Lin Wan’s number.
“Mr. Li,” said Lin Wan as she sipped her goji berry tea. After considering for quite a while, she had decided on this form of address.
“Just call me Yanchen.”
Lin Wan had never called him by his first name, she even rarely used his full name. She felt that calling him “Yanchen” was a bit more intimate. After much thought, she decided to call him by his full name instead.
“Li Yanchen,” she said.
“I have nothing to do with Du Xing. I will just tell her to go away when I see her. She is annoying,” he explained. “She kept calling me and sending me messages. Eventually, I blocked her number.”
There was a lot left unsaid in those few sentences. But Lin Wan understood that he disliked Du Xing and that Du Xing kept pestering him, perhaps with ulterior motives.
“Hmm,” she said. “Are you coming back tomorrow?”
“Yes. I will be home by tomorrow afternoon. If she comes there again, just chase her away. You are the only woman I want by my side. There won’t be anyone else in my life.” Li Yanchen’s voice was a little muffled, but Lin Wan heard what he said.
“Oh… uh… see you tomorrow then!” Lin Wan panicked and hung up. She reached out her hand to touch her blushing face. “Lin Wan, you are not falling for him, are you?” she muttered to herself. “A man older than you. He is very considerate. You are just flustered. It doesn’t mean anything.”
In the hotel, Li Yanchen was in a daze. ‘Why did I even say that?’
He had seen so many beautiful women, but he had never felt anything for them. At the age of thirty-eight, he didn’t want to get attached to anyone, and yet Lin Wan had him under her thumb. He thought about why he had lost his rationality. It had been only about a month since they had been together, Lin Wan had done nothing really to make him feel this way.
Du Xing checked in at the Royal Water Bay Hotel. Yu Shui Bay Hotel. She felt that her brother-in-law was so unreasonable. She had traveled all the way from Qingzhou to come see him, and now she was made to stay at a hotel. She and Du Zheng had lived in different cities. Du Xing had only contacted her sister a few times after she got married. Now that Du Zheng was no longer around, Li Yanchen had turned his back on her.
In the Li family’s living room, Li Zekai asked Auntie Huang about Du Xing.
“Grandma Huang, do you know that Auntie?”
“I’ve only seen her twice,” Auntie Huang said while peeling an apple.
“Is she really my mother’s sister? But how could she be so impolite, shouting at our door at night?”
“She’s your second grandfather’s daughter. She only contacted your mother after your father’s company became successful. You won’t understand it even if I explain it to you,” said Auntie Huang. “Here, eat these apples and go to sleep.” Auntie Huang patted the child on his head.
“Can you wake me up early tomorrow?” he asked. “I want to wait for dad in the courtyard before he arrives.”
Early the next morning, it started drizzling in Yun City. After checking out of her room, Du Xing went to the hotel lobby to borrow an umbrella, preparing to go meet Li Yanchen.
“This rain really came at the right time.” Du Xing muttered to herself as she looked up at the sky.
When Auntie Huang returned from grocery shopping, she saw Du Xing sitting in the courtyard again.
Du Xing quickly got up from the bench and followed Auntie Huang. Auntie Huang was carrying groceries bags, so she had no way of kicking Du Xing out.
“Ms. Du, you are trespassing on private property,” Auntie Huang reprimanded her.
“This is my sister’s house. Even if he wants to kick me out, he should do it himself. He is still my brother-in-law!”
In all her years of living here or anywhere, Auntie Huang had not seen a more shameless person. Even when General Manager Zhou’s mistress had come to find her, she hadn’t been this brazen.
Just as she was about to chase Du Xing away, Lin Wan came out of the house.
Unlike her unkempt appearance before, Lin Wan had light makeup on. She wore a blue knee-length dress with a white shawl on the outside. Even though Du Xing had seen Lin Wan many times on the livestream, she wasn’t prepared to see her in person. She could not take her eyes off her. Lin Wan was beautiful, but her eyes were cold when she looked at Du Xing.
Li Zekai followed behind Lin Wan. He was worried about her. He thought she would be at a disadvantage, so he started recording the whole thing as evidence in his smart watch.
“Madam.” When Auntie Huang saw Lin Wan, the corners of her lips turned up into a smile.
“Morning, Auntie,” Lin Wan greeted Auntie Huang politely. She turned to look at Du Xing, her eyes turning sharp.
“Lin Wan, my brother-in-law obviously likes you only for your young body. You can’t compare to my sister at all. My sister knows everything. I watched your live stream. You’re just a salted fish, a replacement for my sister. A poor replacement, I might add.” Du Xing felt bad smearing her brother-in-law’s name and especially for bringing up her sister. But she knew that it would make this new Madam angry.
Lin Wan looked at Zekai. She knew that this woman was going to speak without any restraint. She told Auntie Huang to take Li Zekai back into the house because this conversation wasn’t fit for a child to hear. Li Zekai refused but was dragged away by Auntie Huang.
Lin Wan smiled as she looked at the hysterical Du Xing. She had no right to judge Li Yanchen’s late ex-wife. She didn’t want to do that because she didn’t know anything about her. However, Du Xing had started it first and Li Yanchen was fed-up of this woman messaging him, so she thought she had to use everything she could to drive her away. “You are Li Yanchen’s sister-in-law, right?”
Du Xing had assumed that Lin Wan would be so angry at being called a replacement that she would jump at her in anger. However, she looked calm and collected. Even her voice was gentle. Du Xing didn’t know how to provoke her.
“Ms. Du has already passed away. It has been seven years. Do you really have to come here and unearth a dead person’s memory so disrespectfully? It doesn’t matter what you think at this point. The truth is, I sleep in the Master Bedroom of this house, and you aren’t even allowed to enter through the main door without my permission.” Lin Wan pointed at the room with the largest balcony on the second floor.
