171 Having A Baby to Inherit The Company
Lin Wan got out of the car and stood in front of the building. She looked up but couldn’t see the roof of the building. She could see the glass windows and walls that emitted a blue light. A Chenxin lit board flashed in white light.
This was Li Yanchen’s company. In the city district of Yun City where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold, Chenxin occupied half of the office building.
She still remembered when she had just graduated and made it to the Top 500 for an interview. The building had been similar. It had also been tall. When she had walked in through the revolving door, she had gasped. She had felt that it would be great to work in such a place as a receptionist. She was rejected in the second round of interviews.
“Wanwan, this is our company. The internet on the tenth floor belongs to Chenxin.” Li Yanchen wrapped his arm around Lin Wan’s waist. “My office is on the top floor. If you’re willing, I can clear a place for you on the top floor for your live stream too.” He smiled at her. “I will manage the company while you manage me,” he teased. “If you don’t want to live stream from here, then Mrs. Li, you are welcome to visit anytime you like.”
Chenxin’s business section covered everything. Even though it was already ten at night, the building was still brightly lit. There were many employees working overtime, but the top executives on the highest floor were all working day shifts. They should have all left by now.
The security guard was used to the boss arriving at the office at any time of the day, but he didn’t expect anyone to accompany him, certainly not a young lady like Lin Wan.
He stood up straight and saluted.
Li Yanchen nodded briskly and continued to walk into the building. The facial recognition lock on the door dinged and the door opened.
After passing through the door, the first thing they saw was a three-meter-long front desk. There was only a black computer on the white marble table, and light gray tiles with diamond squares under their feet. The ceiling lights on the roof cast dense halos on the ground.
On the left side of the hall, there was an area for receiving guests. The door was left ajar.
“Let’s go upstairs.” With his arm around the woman’s shoulders, Li Yanchen led her to the elevator. He pressed his phone softly against the lift button. The 21st floor button glowed red.
“Only the higher-ups can go up to this floor.” Li Yanchen raised Lin Wan’s hands up and pinned her to the wall.”It’ll take about two minutes for us to reach the top floor, Wanwan.”
Lin Wan felt dizzy with the kiss. When the door opened, the bright light hit her. She instinctively closed her eyes while Li Yanchen ushered her out of the elevator. Before she could recover from the dizziness, she felt her head bump against someone.
“Ah!” she and Li Yanchen said at the same time. He was caressing her forehead with concern. “Are you alright?”
Lin Wan opened her eyes and saw a familiar face in front of her.
“Boss! Madam!” Assistant Qin stood there awkwardly.
“I, uh… sorry for the interruption. There is no one here. I will lock this floor on the elevator so no one can come. You can continue ahead.” Assistant Qin had just come here to get a cup of coffee and had bumped into his boss. He was flustered to see his boss and his wife in the elevator, both looking flushed.
“Why are you still here?” Li Yanchen, who had been caught doing something good, was unhappy as well. He had wanted to pull Lin Wan into his office but was rudely interrupted by Assistant Qin.
Assistant Qin had been working overtime voluntarily. “I had something left to do,” he said.
“The employees in this office work two shifts. The managers work during the day. It’s okay to work overtime sometimes but not every day. Our company doesn’t encourage the 996 working hour system. If it is not an emergency, we can deal with it tomorrow. You are off work. Go home,” said Li Yanchen.
‘Is this the same workaholic Li Yanchen?’ wondered Assistant Qin. In the past, his boss would stay in the office 24 hours a day. The 996 working hour system was a joke, he would even follow 007 working hours sometimes. Assistant Qin had never heard his boss acknowledge that he worked long hours before this. It was not even eleven at night and his boss was shooing him away from the office!
‘Is he just pretending in front of his wife so that she won’t think he was obsessed with his work? Is that why he is reprimanding me for working overtime?’ Assistant Qin was confused.
Assistant Qin realized that his boss and his wife might not be here for “work”. He lowered his head. “I will inform the management and have the 21st floor locked. No one will disturb you. Do you want me to get a summer quilt?”
Lin Wan was baffled.
Li Yanchen cleared his throat. “I will give you exactly five minutes to pack your things.”
The lights in the elevator went out after five minutes. Lin Wan was pulled into the president’s office.
Unlike the middle-aged men’s offices Lin Wan had seen in her own world, Li Yanchen’s office mostly followed a beige color template. In front of the floor-to-ceiling window was a flower rack of the same color, with a few potted plants placed on it. There was a glass bookcase against the wall. In the center was a huge office table with two computers. Beside the desk was a pot of Birds of Paradise plant that was taller than her.
At the corner of the room, there was a small beige door with a wooden sofa by the side.’ Li Yanchen’s private space in Chenxin must be behind the door,’ speculated Lin Wan.
Lin Wan walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. Outside the window, the city’s neon lights flickered.
Li Yanchen did not bring her on a tour. Instead, he drew all the curtains and pulled her into his arms.
The three children waited in the car for a long time, but their father didn’t return. So, they got out of the car and decided to go looking for their father’s office.
The elevator stopped on the 20th floor. They couldn’t go up to the last floor. The elevator was off, so they took the stairs but the door to the 21st floor was locked.
Li Zexuan gave his father a call, but the man completely ignored the loud ringing.
Guessing that her stepsons were getting impatient, Lin Wan pushed Li Yanchen away. “What if Xuanxuan and others came up?”
Li Yanchen hesitated before picking up the call.
“Hello. Mr. Li, did you find the documents?”
“We are looking for it. Wait in the car. We will be there soon.” He hung up in a hurry.
“Let’s go back to the car,” said Li Zexuan. “Mr. Li said he is not in his office. He is looking for the document. I don’t know which floor he is on.” He ushered his two brothers to the car.
Their intimate moment was not up to their satisfaction. Li Yanchen casually picked up a folder from his desk drawer. “We will continue tonight.” He smirked.
Lin Wan blushed. Looking at him, she wondered whether he was older than her or she was older than him.
After the two of them returned to the car, they talked about Chenxin’s office layout as an attempt to evade any unnecessary questions.
The three children were convinced that their father had actually given her a thorough tour of the office. Li Zexin leaned back on his seat. “So, Ms. Lin, how was the office? Dad is the Big Boss, isn’t he?”
Other than the lobby on the first floor, the elevator and the 21st floor, Lin Wan hadn’t seen any other part of the company. “Yes,” she said awkwardly. “He is indeed the Big Boss.”
“Ms. Lin, are you considering having a baby to inherit the company?” Li Zexin asked. “My brother is a celebrity. I intend to be an esports expert. We don’t want to manage a company.”
“I don’t want to work in the company as well,” said Li Zekai.
Lin Wan shook her head. “Absolutely not,” she said. “Managing you three is difficult enough.”
“There are only ten days left for the holidays and then we will be back to school,” said Li Zexuan. “Then, you will be the only one left at home. If we can have a younger sister to play with, you can spend time with her when we are off at school and we can take care of her during the holidays.”
Lin Wan shook her head. She felt as though her head was going to explode. “I will consider it.”
Li Yanchen typed out a few words and sent a message to her:
[While I can carry the company for many years, someone has to inherit my excellent genes. I feel that one is too few, two or three will be just right.]
Lin Wan swiped on her phone.
